I agree with the renting. We fear of the unknown too much in my house so before we made the leap we crunched the potential renting numbers. That helped. Whatever you decide I too will be praying for you.
Also, i wanted to commend all of the members on here for being so compassionate and helpful to another member. It makes it feel like a family. As a fairly new member it touched my heart to read all of the posts. So glad i found this site!

I agree with renting. Also see if you can do a one time transfer (much easier than renting and you don't have to worry about a lot after you've been paid and the transfer goes through)

I lost my dh 2 years ago to ca. we started going to disney in 1989 and he loved disney as much as I did. My dvc saved my sanity and gave me something to look forward to and thank god my daughter loved disney as much as my dh and i did so I was able to look forward to my trips and have my daughter with me. Disney gave me the escape that i needed. I hope you can hold onto your points and i hope for your remission. God bless you.

I don't visit this board very often, but read about you situation.. So very sorry. I think there are a lot of us in similar situations, just with different packages on them. We have 2 Disney homes, Saratoga springs and Villas at Grand California.
We owe on both, so we aren't lucky enough to just rent. We want to sell Saratoga.. Any ideas who we should list it with?? We just can't afford to keep paying on both.

I believe the Timeshare Store can help (aren't they a sponsor here too?) Hopefully you can sell for what ou owe.

The Timeshare Store is not a sponsor, only Daddio's broker service for DVC rentals. None of the selling/buying brokers are sponsors here.

I have to say that I don't understand why renting isn't possible when you owe money? You can make probably $7 per point over maintenance fees on rentals. Would that not be enough, over a few years, to pay off your debt?

Good luck with whatever you do.

Praying for your health improvement and guidance in your decision. I'm sure you've thought much about this, but the rental option presented by so many wise MOs could be a great answer. Maybe even try it for one year then reevaluate the decision. VWL is a very hot property. I'm certain you would never have a problem renting it out regularly.

All the best for a long, healthy future,
Jennie

Mickey, i am very sorry to hear about your situation! Unfortunately CA has made its toll on my family in the past. I am new to this board and unfortunately not a DVC owner but certainly am a willing person that would want to rent your points in the future. I am sure if you reconsider your option to rent and try that at least once hopefully you can see that it makes sense to do that for some time.

I agree with others that have stated that keeping your DVC may benifit you in the long run and keep you sane amidst the craziness.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers!

Wishing you the best!!

Default Say goodbye to membership

Sorry you have to deal with the health issues but you'll get over not being a member really quick. The negatives soon out way the positives. It was nice knowing we could stay in a decent villa convenient to the parks when we bought 12 years ago. But as more and more memberships were sold and prices went skyward it just got harder and harder to use the points. We couldn't plan 11 months in advance and by the time we gave up on going it was too difficult to rent and ended up giving away points. Plus the cost of paying loans on three memberships plus maintenance fees plus park tickets, gas, food, crowded rides, crowded buses just took the magic away. Oh, I'll be back cause there is so much to enjoy down there. But it's so much cheaper to rent a nice house complete with a pool for a $100 a day. You have to get your priorities in order. Your health always comes first followed by your financial well being. You certainly don't want to be a burden to your family health wise or financially. Your grandchildren don't need to be spoiled at DW to enjoy that special time with grandma. And not to get on a political tangent but SS was never meant to be a means for a comfortable life style. It was supposed to be a last resort for survival. Too many people (myself included) thought SS would always be there so just didn't plan ahead.

Mickey, I have hugs and prayers for peace in your decision. Give the sell prayerful consideration. I am also praying that your home is secured in someway.
