My husband grew up in a family of campers. As soon as we had a son, he was already talking of taking the family camping. We compromised and bought a camper equipped with ac, a bathroom, and a shower. Now I love camping too. Dh goes outside, and I stay in the air conditioned camper reading or watching the flat screen tv.

Yes and No
When we lived in Washington State - YES! Now that we live in Texas - NO WAY! I enjoy doing things outdoors when the weather is cool to cold, but I don't enjoy sleeping outdoors and I definitely do not want to have to go to the bathroom without a fully functioning toilet.

The first and last time I camped I was in girls scouts in the 1st grade.
Although I have been known to do a hike now and again (Grand Canyon, Hawaii, etc) typically the most out-doorsy I get is walking from where I parked my car to the resort/museum/attraction/resturant while on vacation.

We love to be outdoors, swimming, bike riding, kayaking, going to the beach, gardening, windows open. I think mostly because we only have warm enough weather to be doing those things from May to Sept. The rest of the year finds us with the heat on, bundled up in layers of clothing, etc.
Now, camping is something entirely different! Those other activities we can do from home. I completely agree that "tent" is a four letter word. I need my shower and electricity. We had a 30 ft. fifth-wheel RV before we bought DVC. But....it had A/C, 2 TV's, full kitchen (well, no dishwasher), full bathroom, ceiling fans, queen size bed, etc. DH used to say that we didn't go "camping" we went "RVing." I think there is a HUGE difference! RVing I will do, camping, nah. |

We did a bit of camping years ago when we first got married. It was cheap and fun. We'd borrow the inlaws camper and head out to the beach for a week or so. Needless to say we never bought a camper of our own and we never will.
We prefer our vacation to be more comfortable and convenient. We have never stayed off-site and never will. Convenience is key, vacations are short enough to begin with, I dont want to waste time renting cars, pitching tents, packing campers, driving all over, setting up camp etc. Put us on a plane and the ME straight to the resort. DW wants to try the Treehouse Villas - thats camping for her ![]() |

When I was a kid I think I wanted to sleep outdoors in the backyard a few times. My mother was reluctant to let me for fear that I'd be attacked by mosquitoes or the dreaded chiggers. At some point I was old enough that I could sleep outside if I wanted to but by then was of the opinion that I really wouldn't enjoy being eaten alive my mosquitoes. |

But when I was kid ,my Grandparents owned an island in NH. It had no t.v.,only a few A.M. radio stations and no running water. We used an out house and the lake to bath. We went every year for about two weeks until I was about 15. I wouldn't mind going backfor a night or two but no longer than that.

My idea of roughing it is to stay at the Holiday Inn rather than the Ritz. My outdoors life is limited to going outside to get in the car

My idea of "roughing it" is a Holiday Inn Express. Tent? Never gonna happen. I survived "The Summer of the $20 Tent" and swore Never Again.

We did the BackTrail segway Tour during our trip in July , we got there a bit early so decided to explore the campground a bit. Well between that and tour I'm really leaning on camping out or maybe doing a cabin there one trip .
