When we sailed on June 30, we flew in a day early. Rented from Budget and picked up at the airport, spent the night at AKL, drove to the port the next morning and dropped the vehicle off at Budgets location very close to the port. Their shuttle took us from their location to the ship. I think the cost was around $28.00, less than $30 for sure.
On the return we took their shuttle to their location, picked up our vehicle and then went off to the airport. Cost was a little more this time, around $32, I think. At any rate, both rentals were less than what Disney wanted to charge us for one-way. And far less then what you are proposing to do. I, too, wonder why in the world you would want to pay to park a "rental" car at the port for the duration of your cruise. I don't know how far out your cruise is, but car rental prices start coming down when you get closer to your date, mine came down about three weeks out. |

We did it recently. We flew into MCO and then went to Universal Studios for three days with a rental car. Then over to Disney for 7 nights and returned the rental car the day after we got there. We took ME back to MCO from Beach Club Villas.

I didn't consider the possibility of two one-way rentals. That's much, much better. =)
Thanks for the very helpful responses, everyone. This is why I love MO. =)

I would suggest that you take ME to OKW and get your KTTW. Then you can go to DTD and do everything else you planned to do.
If you don't get you room assigned until 11PM your luggage will NOT be in your room until after midnight! ME will bring your bags to OKW but they won't be delivered to your room until its been assigned. Online checkin does not assign you your room only speed up the process.

Oh? If online checkin doesn't assign a room then, er, what does it do, exactly?
Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt what you're saying. I'm just wondering what the point of online checkin is if you're not being assigned a room. An electronic way of saying, "Yup, I'll be there!"

1) You absolutely can take ME one way. Zero problem with that.
2) While you can't just take any-old ME bus, there's a good chance the OWK bus will also stop at SSR, which is where you want to go. The walk from SSR to the Dollar isn't that bad... BUT 3) Dollar has a free shuttle (or at least they did.) As long as you call a day in advance to arange it, just go to OKW, check into your room and get picked up. |

We always do two one-way rentals when cruising. The car rental places in Cape Canaveral make it very easy. We always use Avis and it couldn't be easier. We can usually get a one-way for about $30. You also won't have to pay for the car that is just sitting at the port awaiting your return (and you won't have to pay to park).

Yep, those one way remtal cars are the way to go. Super smooth and inexpensive. Sounds like a fun trip.

I did online check in for our trip last August when Hurricane Irene decided to shorten the trip by 3 days due to airport closures here In the NorthEast. When we did get to BLT they had to start the process from scratch. Not too big of a deal for us since the resort was practically a ghost town for the next few days. We weren't the only ones whose vacation plans changed abruptly!
