Here's a little poem I wrote several years ago for the Allears newsletter under the heading of "Mousy Mindboggler". The idea was to guess what was being described, which is obvious here.
-------

When heading back at end of day
I choose to try a different way
A friendly path leads me astray
Some names and dates -- why did they pay?

It isn't right, it isn't fair,
But this path just won't take me there!
It led me up to Neptune's lair.
To cross requires quite a stair
But it's not there! To reach my bed
I should've taken the boat instead.
I like it. Very cute!

I guess cheap is relative. I was thinking it would be cheap compared to improving the monorails capacity. ....but I really have no clue.

EPCOT has a draw bridge near the China Pavillion which opens twice nightly, before and after Illuminations. Disney should build the exact same bridge to connect the Grand Floridian walkway to the Magic Kingdom.

Good point.............And the Draw Bridge could be operated Remotely by the Electrical water parade, Therefore not needing a CM. There could also be a phone Box on the Walkway from the GF to MK, incase there is a malfunction (Not that Disney would need it) to phone the central office if there was a problem.................See we don't even need a CM there.

......Good Idea of a Walkway from the Grand Floridian to the Magic Kindom

Collen : We enjoy that night walk back to BLT too

Given the location of the GF DVC it would be a bit more of a hike to those rooms, but I think it would be a nice walk... with FABULOUS fireworks viewing if you timed it right. I eat a lot of Mickey Head Bars when I am in Orlando so walking makes me feel way more virtuous.
The walk to BLT really is awesome -- even if it weren't much faster than taking the monorail, which is totally is, I'd do it because it's such a nice way to transition from park to room. Really does feel like you're just going "home."

Default What disney was thinking

What was in the thought process when making a walkway that ends at the canal. That draw bridge over the canal would be a good idea with making a walking path to the GF.It would be nice if they had a walkway that went around the lake from MK to the 3 resorts connecting them.it would be a great excercise path and could also be used in disney marathons that are becoming popular.

What will happen at the Polynesian and when is like hitting a moving target. Even in the past when I would find out a project was scheduled to start and dates were sent out to Cast Members it would sometimes change days before it was to start but right now as I see it there is going to be a lot of things going on in the next 5 years starting the end of this year.

I wish I could tell you all the details but my source would be upset if I did. This is how I see it happening. The info on what will happen is not a rumor but the plan they have right now (could change as always) and some of the timeline is info I was told and some is me giving an educated guess.

End of 2012
Hot tub will go in where the kids wet play area is next to the volcano pool
New room design (already in test rooms now) will start to go into the longhouses

2013
New room design will continue to go into the longhouses
Possible work to start clearing for DVC between Aotearoa and Wedding Pavilion
Possible removal of Luau Cove structure and removal or relocation of Spirit of Aloha dinner show

2014-2018
GCH will be gutted and redesigned with water feature being removed. Don’t know what will go back in as far as stores, restaurants and lobby or where lobby will be relocated to during work. Some talk of using the building where the Neverland Club and Tangaroa Terrace is which later on will be removed.

First phase of the DVC project will start work (I will tell you those details when I can)
Second phase will be on TTC side of the resort but I will have to wait on those details also because it will be a lot happening over there and I will leave that to your imagination for now.

I don’t enjoy holding back info but when I am asked not to share until later I really have to respect their wishes. What I am told sounds exciting and scary. Exciting because it will be a lot of new things and scary because I will have to see it done before I can pass judgment on if I think it was an improvement or not.

People email me all the time worried about booking at the resort because of the chance something might be going on and it is hard to tell them what will be going on when and if it will affect their stay. I have been at the Polynesian during two major renovations (1996 and 2005) and it did not affect my stay at all. Also with the two new phases being at the ends of the property I would think it will not affect the other longhouses much but the work to the GCH and the pool area could be a factor. All I can say is I trust Disney to do their best to not affect the guests too much but there will be things going on for the next 5 years from the dates I am told.

I hope, for the sake of DVC and cash guests at all monorail resorts, that part of what they will do is upgrade the docks and boats that sail from the Contemporary, the GF and the Poly, as well as build a walkway from the GF. They may also need to consider bus transportation to Epcot, or perhaps small launches going by water to the TTC. (Note to all who will freak out - I'm not suggesting it be mandatory - I'm suggesting it be available so that if the slow timing of the monorail makes it attractive, people will take it.)

I don't see any practical way to increase capacity on the monorail itself.

Fits my DVC time line for new resorts.

River Country DVC will start first, to replace AKV sales
Then Poly DVC to replace GFV sales.

That is one of my biggest concerns when I found out the plans. How was the transportaition going to be affected. I think I am less concerned with the Polynesian than the other two monorail resorts because you can always walk to the TTC. I did see them use the larger motor launches (boats) to go to the MK when we were there in October and they seem to hold more than twice as many people. Also those at the Polynesian can walk over and take the large ferry since it is right next to Tahiti longhouse. GF guests will be the most affected byt the increase of people on the monorail since they are the last stop on the way to the MK. During our last trip when we would stop at the GF there was no room or very little standing room only for GF guests.
