I'm not saying that we should throw caution to the wind, but I think it's impossible to kill all those germs.

What about shopping cart handles and movie theater seats? I would HATE to see how many/what types of germs are left in those places.

While that is true, I think a lot of folks forget that many of the germs and microbes that can make us sick don't live long on surfaces like that. They usually aren't terribly hearty once they hit the air. The tougher ones might last a day though.

I don't really care about the thread count as long as the mattress is comfortable but I did buy some fitted sheets for the mattresses at DVC. I move around alot and hate to remake the bed every morning. Fitted sheets really work well, I just put them over the sheet that is already on the bed and use the flat sheet that Disney provides. I have a king and two queen sheets that stay in my suitcases for my DVC trips. I don't use a locker mainly because I don't have enough stuff that I bring every trip to make a locker worth my while.
I dont use the bedspread, that comes off right away and is folded and put out of the way till I check out. I leave it on the bed, unmade when I leave.
I always put the do not disturb sign up on the day I arrive and leave it till I leave. I am capeable of washing my own sheets if they need it, and I clean the kitchen when I use something. I also take my trash out to the bin when it is full. On my trash day I do take in the towels and put the dirty ones on the maid cart and tell her to check off my room since I don't want it cleaned.
I change my sheets once a week, and see no reason to have them changed more often just because I am on vacation.
I do love the towels though. I wash my towels without softener so they are more absorbant. I also hang them on the clothesline when I can (spring till fall) because they are rougher. Nothing beats rubbing your skin with a rough towel, it helps to debride better than a loofa...

Sometimes I feel like the powers that be figure we'll never stay outside of DVC, so they can skimp and we won't realize it. We paid to buy into DVC, shouldn't we be rewarded with upgraded stuff?

We were at BWV twice last year and didnt have a problem with the sheets on either trip, they have been upgraded since the renovations there and the bed is more comfortable.

As for the towels, we leave several disney (of course) beach towels in our owners locker and use them in the shower, so mcuh more comfortable.

Default Terrible Sheets

I have to say our last trip at BCV, we were commenting how rough and noisy the sheets were. Our almost-2 year old was sleeping in the pack-n-play in the room with us and we were afraid we would wake him every time we moved!

No issues with the sheets but the pillows are a heck of a lot better than mine at home.

We are currently in Vero Beach and the sheets are better...but not great. We brought our own though this time. For some reason, I had in my mind that we were getting a king bed but we only had two queens...apparently only two king sized beds available in the whole resort they tell us. Their pillows are nice though.
