Who's Daddio?

What risk is there in renting points to another DVC member you don't know? I'm asking because I don't know. I mean is there a concern they may use the points to book at unit and trash it?

Clearly I'm new!

Jerry

There has to be a level of trust when renting out points.

We get $11.00 per point with no problem. I post our 1,400 points and in 2 weeks or less gone. No middle man we control all reservations start to arrival. We own the points no leanders check us out at Orange County.

Risks for the owner include accepting money on PayPal within 30 days of reservation and then having the renter reverse transaction on paypal or credit card. The money problem can usually be solved by requiring all costs to be paid up front at least 60 days in advance of reservation.

Also, if the renter trashes the room - the owner is billed for the damage. On the day of checkout - it is possible to checkout - settle the room charges, but continue to charge on the room key and leave a balance on the room - which owner is responsible for.

Risks for renter include sending money to someone who doesn't own points or will take your money and cancel your reservation on you.

Most of these risks can be extremely lowered with some due diligence.

Don't you need to connect a credit card to the key to the world room key in order to charge it?

On the front page of the forums (that list all the forum titles), scroll to the bottom to the Rent/Trade/Transfer Board, and read all the stickies before posting. We have rules in that section which are specific about where and what you can post.

My understanding is that you need a credit card on file to have charging privileges. When you check-out the total charges are billed to your credit card on file.

However, after you check-out you can still charge with the room key and any additional charges after check-out *SHOULD* be charged to the card left on file.

But what if the renter blocks the card or lowers the limit or disputes the charge with the credit card company. Now there is a mess to clean up and Disney won't want to deal with it. Any outstanding balance on the room that they can't collect for whatever reason is the owner's responsibility.

That is my understanding unless things have changed recently.
