Default Grrrrr....

Flew to NY today with United. Left Charleston at 0540. The plane was smallish. I only had a carry on and United took it from me at the gate ( along with anyone else who had a carry on on wheels ) because they wouldn't fit in the overhead bin.

I tried to take my Macbook out of it, and was told I couldn't. I already had my "personal item"- my purse. So, my Macbook went into gate check.

And came out with a big ol' cracked screen and a ding in the case.

I called United's customer service and I've decided taking the financial hit to fix it wasn't worth arguing with Rajeesh.

Should have flown Southwest, I could have checked my clothes and carried on my purse and a computer bag. The savings I had booking United is way gone when I go to the genius bar next week.

Ugggg - sorry to hear that! I try hard to avoid small planes because I'm usually carrying camera equipment and a laptop. If I remember it's a small plane I can usually work around it with smaller bags but when I forget the gate agents are usually the worst.

BUT - your gate agent was worse than normal! You are allowed to take into the cabin 2 "bags/items". I've never had a comment when I've pulled something out of the bag that won't fit to carry it on.

I would call them every spare minute I had raising Holy Cain until they sent me the check. They were just wrong on every level and should pay . Don'y Take it or it will never get fixed , CAll Call CAll .

Sorry to hear that Tammy.

I don't get the agent not letting you take the laptop out of your bag, you're allowed a carry on and personal item, why can't the purse be the carry on and the laptop the personal item? I think you ended up with bad customer service on more than one front there.

Most likely from their screwup to begin with they were rushed to get the Plane away from the gate and those several seconds couldn't be spared. That's bad and then to make it like it's your fault is even worse.

My wife just told me Delta won't let you check (plainside or regular checked) anything with a battery. If you would choose to leave your laptop in your bag, they would make you the battery out.

Since diaper bags aren't counted for most airlines......
From now on I am just going to carry on a diaper bag.
Not for my soon to be 12 y/o. For me. I'll throw in 2
depends, sippy cups with soda and anything else we'll need.
Go ahead and tell me I can't carry on my nappy sack.
Airlines meet AARP.
