Default Rebooking onboard. Still undecided.

I know that rebooking onboard is a smart thing to do, but being short on actual $, I'm not sure if I will do that this trip.

If I book a cheaper upcoming cruise, just so I'd only have to put $200 - $300 down, is it still worth it to do that and then maybe rebook later? Would I still get 10% off of the new booking?

Conversely, what happens if I trade down? If I book a $5K cruise and then later switch it to a $2K cruise, what happens? Does DCL still give me the OBC and 10% off of the cheaper cruise.

I wish I had too much money right now. It would be a no brainer that I would book the furthest out and then change it when 2014 or 2015 opens up.

Your OBC and 10% discount will transfer to your "moved" booking. It does not matter if the new cruise price is more or less then the original price. The only exception is for Concierge level cabins.

The smart money is to book the "cheapest" and "furthest" out room possible. That way you spend the least amount of money, but get the perks on rebooking on board your cruise. Just call Robin, she'll go over everything you would need to know and do.

If you put the deposit on your Disney Visa, you don't need to make any payments for 6 months. -- Suzanne

There have been some recent changes concerning rebooking inboard. I think you can no longer move your original ressie ( dummy date) and keep all of the promotions/benefits.
So be sure you really want to sail on the date you book.

Clarification on Dummy Date reservations.

When booking onboard, you are allowed to book 2 reservations per household that will receive the 10% discount, 50% deposit reduction and onboard credit (based on Castaway Club level). They must be for the same sail date. You will not be allowed to book these for someone not on the sailing and that is not in your household.

Disney Cruise Line will allow you to book more than the 2 reservations for future sailings but they will not have the 50% deposit reduction or 10% Discount. They will have an onboard credit (based on Castaway Club level). There is nothing stating these have to be in the same household so this basically replaces the Friends & Family certificate without giving additional 30 days after sailing to book.

This change was made in March.

The current DCL policy of moving dummy reservations is in place for all current cruises.

As of today, DCL is not guaranteeing that you can move the dummy cruises in 2014 and retain your OBC and 10% discount.

This does not mean they won't continue the current policy, its Disney's way of keeping one foot in and one foot out.

I suppose with the easy cancellation policy, it would still be worth it to book onboard and then try to change it.

Absolutely!

Except concierge suites.

There's a good chance we'll be booking new on Monday! Jodi...don't know if you've done this or not but it's easier to book when you do it early. The longer you wait the longer the lines get...

See you soon!!!

I see no advantage in booking a dummy date.
