Thanks I didn't realize they opened it up to all carriers (not just Verizon) so it's in the Android market as well .

I just grabbed it. I'll have to give it a whirl in April.

Now if I could just get Sprint 3G coverage while on property.
I think at some point they are going to have to offer property wide free WiFi. Or at least I hope. |

I got to play with Mobile Magic this weekend now that the iPhone app has been released to non-Verizon users.
It was novel. It was nice having an official wait time at my fingers and not having to rely on TouringPlans.com guestimations. While it is novel, there isn't much to compel you to keep using it. This got me thinking about similar apps and the NextGen/xPass project and what they could do to make this app more compelling. The first app that came to mind was EpicMix from Vail resorts. The EpicMix works in conjunction with the RFID tag imbedded in your lift pass. From the app you can tell - what mountain you visited and when; what lifts you rode on each mountain; the total number of vertical feet skied; view photos taken from company photographers; and they create scavenger hunts to earn Pins/Badges/Buttons. And if you choose your photos and accomplishments can automatically be posted to facebook. How many times have you gone to Disney or other theme park grabbed the map and checked off the attractions you completed at the park? When I was playing with Mobile Magic it knew with I was based on GPS and had a rough idea where we were in the park. For a second I thought it was marking the attractions we visited. But it wasn't. By utilizing the RFID in the NextGen park tickets, you could easily accomplish this. Sign in to the app, link it to your park ticket and keep track of the attractions you visited, and how many times. You could earn Pins/Badges/Buttons on the app for completing series of things in the park - like earn the "Disney Mountaineer" pin for riding Space, Splash, and Thunder. And if you chose (through your privacy settings) post to facebook that you just earned the "Disney Mountaineer" Pin at Walt Disney World. And what if you Disney PhotoPass photos (low resolution previews) automatically showed up in the Mobile Magic App? And again if you chose (through your privacy settings) post to facebook the photo so your friends, family, and other social networking contacts can see how much fun you are having at Disney. This would be great social media marketing for Disney. |
