I just received the new email newsletter and it indicates that the 15% off deal at SSR runs through February 1st.

Since threads related to that discount have dropped-off, I'll recap.

Current members can add-on 120 or more points for just $83.30 per point. That's a 15% discount off of the base price of $98 per point.

Non-members can buy their first contract of any amount over 150 points for the same price as long as they have a referral from a current DVC member.

This is the best price DVC has offered since the SSR pre-sales in the Fall of 2003 at $79 per point. Receiving this 15% off discount does not require that members surrender any points (as was the case with the old Magical Beginnings promotions). I also believe they are selling Use Years in the August / September neighborhood, meaning that new buyers get a set of points immediately (and only partial year dues on them) and another set in just 8-9 months.

Dues are prorated for the calendar year, not the use year. And the proration is based on the day you pay your deposit. So not much reduction if you buy in January.

Remember that banking rules apply so while you do reload real soon under this scenario, you may also find yourself in a use it or lose it situation much sooner because the 100% banking window closes the end of January for August use years and end of February for September use years.

True. But given that you normally pay 12 months worth of dues for every set of points received, there would appear to be some savings.

I just got my postcard reminding me (tempting me) that this promotion is ending. It's tough b/c we really could use more points to fund our habit. It was hard to go ahead and pay for a room....despite the fact that I'm paying less than $100 per night for a moderate. But still......it's not a DVC villa! I would be fine with those points b/c they'd cover the short trip we seem to take each year LOL. :(

Maybe we'll tour at the end of January...can't hurt?! How long do you need to do that...we've never taken a tour before.

Oh well....I just don't know if I should talk to DH or wait and see what the next big thing is. It's a game of chance?!

We always visit the "offered" DVC resort - we started this back when we were mooching off my sister's DVC (and we visited BWV... supposed to be a lark to spend a rainy day, and ended up buying! :) ) Since then, we've toured VWL, BCV, SSR... it's totally up to you how long you stay. One time, I was in Orlando on business, and I stopped by both BWV and BCV because I could not decide where we wanted our next trip - told the front desks I just wanted a quick peek inside each 2BR villa display so I could figure it out, logistically, where we wanted! No sweat - they let me and my colleague slide right in, sans a tour guide at all! My DVC guide was told that two of his DVC members had stopped by, so he called my DH the next day and asked if "we" had any questions (assuming I had visited with my DH). Well DH had NO idea I had done this, I hadn't returned yet from my trip so we hadn't spoken, and not thinking, he said, "Orlando? I wasn't in Orlando yesterday. You must be mistaken." Well the guide got TOALLY flustered, apologized and hung up. To this day, our guide probably thinks I was shlepping around DVC on an affair of sorts! :sosad:

Anyway - to answer you question - it can take as little as a few minutes ("Can we just see a villa?") to an hour ("Give us the tour!") and as always, depends on how busy they are. When I dropped in that time at BWV/BCV, it was REALLY busy and they probably welcomed the fact that I DIDN'T want the guided tour. On the other hand, we once stopped by BCV and basically, it was just us. (The guide in there seemed lonely and could have talked for hours!!)

Has anybody done the math to figure out if the 15% off is a better deal than what's currently being offered in resale?

Granted, Disney makes it SOOOO easy (sign and go!), but I have seen some SSR contracts of varying sizes (lots of 120's though - artifacts of the AP special, probably!) and these are listing on resale for around 81 per pt. I just never know what to expect in additional charges. I guess if you could find a contract for 81 AND banked pts, it might be worth it?

You also have to consider the JOY of ROFR!

I do the math everytime, and I buy resale when it is the way to go, which it usually is!

Current Deal $83.30 per point. If you choose the correct UY you get 2005 points now. No other closing costs. Simple sign and go, COULD NOT BE EASIER. Only con, you will pay pro-rated maintenance fees for 2005 UY Points. (The last Deal, Disney paid the MF for 2005, and you got an 'extra' 100 developer points! (I bought 2 of those!)

Anyway, I love Jason, Tom and the TTS as well as ROFR. (Of course I like toi gamble and still hear those voices in my head at night, YMMV!)
