Dedicated to our very own Ms SnootySnoot....
Just a few photos to whet the appetite. I have many more from when I was there for about six weeks last year, but my camera battery died on my last day as I was trying to take photos of the Pont Alexandre III. So this year I braved the rain :umbrella: and went to take some photos. I had the good fortune that the sun came out just as I was taking these.
I have often walked over this bridge - it is the connection over the Seine from les Invalides (now a military museum; formerly a military hospital) and the Grande and Petite palaces built for the worlds fair (who remembers Jeremy Irons in the Timekeeper film? he is walking on the fair grounds) If one stands with the back to les Invalides on the bridge, the Champs Elysees is one street in front. To the left on the bridge one can see the Tour Eiffel; to the right down the Champs Elysees is Place de la Concorde and further along is the Louvre.
Once I ever do get my photos of other sites in Paris uploaded to a photo hosting site, I will add a link
This first photo includes the bridge, with les Invalides on the left bank behind, and in the very back the ugly tour Montparnasse, tallest skyscraper in France. For those of you who have watched Impressions de France in Epcot, the scene taken from the Tour Eiffel shows this black tower in the background. I did not like it last year as it blocked the view of the Tour Eiffel from my hotel room!
