I'm just posting a few here, in case anyone is interested! While I normally take several hundred photos on a trip, the monsoon definitely played havoc with my photography. I have a lot of photos of sheets of rain, and several more almost completely fogged out due to high humidity!

So here are a few that I like from a month in monsoon season:

Some street scenes. The first is my favourite; these vendors are all along the roads and sell a wide variety of items

Old Goa is a world heritage site, and has at least eight catholic churches still standing from the Portuguese rule:

Panjim's catholic church:

Love this mural!

Beach walk. This is where the river meets the Arabian Sea, and the water was very brown most of the time. Waves were incredible, and sadly many people die each year as they are swept out to sea. This was one of the only times that the rain stopped long enough to take a photo

And every day I got to see this fellow, who of course reminded me of our own Frog Prince, Greenbanned

Where's the food?

I can only imagine the heat and humidity . . .

40 degree celcius in Delhi :umbrella:

the food was good, but I am a holder of two diplomas in Indian cooking and like it better where I live for the most part.

The hotel tried to westernize everything, so that combined with malaria pills did not make it very tasty. was probably my taste buds combined with the heat! most days I had a croissant with Nutella for bfast/lunch and an Indian/Portuguese veggie pizza for dinner!

Goan curry is also a little different - very rich red flavour and lots of coconut

The hotel in Mumbai had toasted Nutella sandwiches on the menu, but I did not try one! they did have excellent food there though - yum!

Nutella is Indian, or catering to a European crowd?

I imagine eating Indian cuisine in India would be very different from a local place since the cuisine varies so much by region. I still can't figure out if I like North or South Indian better. Which ever one has samosas is where I want heaven to be . . .

loooooooong Nutella story. Not common in India. My 'mole' got detained in Singapore and the Nutella taken away. We had some sources in Malaysia and Australia finally send us some - imagine an Italian and a German for four weeks with no Nutella otherwise

Well, no cleavage photos for the Viking, but here are a few more. I have mixed emotions about photo taking - on the one side things were so amazing, but on the other I really don't like to take people's pictures. The parts of 'real' India in Mumbai and Delhi are etched into my brain, hopefully not to be forgetten. They include things like the women waving their babies up against the minicab window, begging; the hundreds of men sleeping in undershirts atop their monarch cabs in 40 degree heat at 2am; the thousands of people pressing against the military, trying but being denied entry to the airport (only travellers with a valid ticket and photo ID can enter)

My photos are mainly of the relatively prosperous state of Goa, which was a Portuguese colony.

Perhaps one of my most 'wow' moments however - I flew over Afghanistan. How many do that in their lives? Maybe one day I will be able to visit there as well

A very atypical street scene - ie quiet with no people. That is my car and driver going to turn around while I hopped out to take the street scene photos in my original post. He was confused as to why I would do that

One of the many churches in Old Goa. Again, my guide tried to direct me to the 'newer' buildings, not understanding that I preferred the ruins

This doesn't look like India, does it?

This was a very bad monsoon day - we all had at least 2 inches of water in our rooms. Sadly our plans to go sightseeing and/or golfing were waylaid and we all stayed in our rooms. I did got out to take a few photos, and could not open the door to get back inside for many minutes as the wind was so strong! While leaving the building, a housekeeper saw me and said 'courage, madame' I don't know if that was a warning or not, but it was required! I am amazed how people walk or cycle in this weather during the monsoons

This is a 'calm' day on the water. You can see how brown it is. This is where the Arabian Sea meets the river; further along the river it is a deep red. I could only think of Dana Point, CA and how different the ocean looks, even when the waves are raging and the fog rolls in

While I was there, I was PMing nbodyhome about how I couldn't do my daily walks. The streets are very broken up as you see in the street scene photo with my car/driver. That was actually one of the better streets. The paving is so broken up from the rains and the number of people walking that it was quite difficult to walk anywhere.

I did throw out two pairs of shoes when I reached France; one pair of slides was covered in mud from Delhi and had the most horrible smell.

One day in Mumbai I sat in a traffic jam for about 30 minutes before my driver decided to do a u-turn across seven lanes of traffic. It was very interesting to view daily life for people there. Every free space is covered with advertising; usually for cel phone service or alcohol or chocolate bars!

And as we neared Dabolim, I saw the Flintstones restaurant. Definitely a little odd to find that in small town India!

DO NOT LIGHT FIRECRACKERS :scary: Never seen that on a church before but from it's prominence on the sign it would seem that it might be a problem there. I'm intrigued.

Thanks for the photos! They are very interesting to say the least! And the stories too, like the people lined up to get into the airport!

As for the firecrackers, that is not surprising to me. We have lots of people from India in our business as contractors. They have a Hindu celebration called Diwali that is around the end of Oct, beginning of November. This huge celebration is the beginning of a new year for them and one of the focuses is "fire crackers" to them which would be Fireworks to us. The first time they told me they had lots of fire crackers I thought, ummm big deal?

So no fireworks in the church would probably refer to the Diwali celebration in particular, but fireworks specifically.

Sorry I missed this thread-

Fabulous pics bavaria and love your comments. Very interesting!

Thank you so much for sharing all your fascinating travels with us- I am sure that I will never get to India (or to alot of the places that you visit) so your experiences are really as close to many places that I will ever see.
