Found this posted on another board, I wonder if it was anyone we know?
A man in his 20s may be charged with filing a false police report after being rescued from the Village Lake near Downtown Disney. Mark Weathersby was reportedly drunk at Pleasure Island on Wednesday night when he apparently decided to try to swim back to his resort rather than walking or taking a Disney bus.
Halfway back to the Saratoga Springs Resort, Weathersby developed cramps and began calling for help. After he was rescued by the Reedy Creek Fire Department, Weathersby apparently got embarassed at being out in the lake by himself and made up a story that he had gone swimming with a friend who was missing. Rescue crews searched for the other swimmer for nearly three hours in a vain attempt to find Weathersby's fictitious friend.
Authorities, now angry about the wasted manpower, will likely file charges against Weathersby for making up the second swimmer.

OK, except for the false reporting part, I thought this was really funny. How drunk do you have to be to think...."hmmmm forget the bus, forget the boat, swimming just makes so much more sense!"? :ROTFL:

OMG! What an idiot!!! Had enough brain power to think the story up adn realize tehy may frown upon his swimming adventure, but not enough to think about teh results. WHo did he plan to say was missing?
The whole seimming thing, while dangerous and stupid, is kind of funny, though. :p

Guess he forgot the old rule: Wait at least 30 minutes after getting %#% faced before entering the water.

I thought I read something about 2-3 months ago about someone else who had to be rescued from the water in Downtown Disney.

Yes, but you have to go by of Mexico - France, rather than Canada/UK. I"m not too excited about English or Canadian wines . ..

Dirk,
Canada and England have good beers! :cheers2:
Is there anyone else on this thread that just can't believe how drunk this guy must have been? I mean, I was a competitive swimmer, and with my worst pair of beer goggles on, the concept of swimming home has honestly never crossed my mind! :headscrat

Not as far as you know...:sailing: However, I was involved w/ a Search and Rescue team at Scout Camp when a leader lost his hat full of pins to the middle of the lake. We never found it.
My only Disney aquatic incident was a sober one: I fell into the entry area of the shark reef. The combination of not wearing my glasses, the reflection off the water, and the tunnel vision created by the mask threw off my depth perception *just enough* to not see the edge of the pool. I fell in like a drunken sailor, and was really hoping that I wouldn't lose my trip across the reef because of my blunder. Fortunately, I didn't and had a great time swimming with the sharks!
