My DW and I are looking at staying at a Moderate for a couple of nights before we check into BCV. We have never stayed at at Mod, so I really don't have a preference right now.

Which one do you like best and why?:help:

We really liked the Port Orleans- Riverside...back when it was Dixie Landings. We haven't stayed there since they combined resorts. But it was a pretty resort, the boat ride to Downtown Disney is nice and relaxing and if you get one of the mansions, the resort is not too spread out.

We stayed at the Caribbean in June and it was ok but much too spread out for us. Plus at the time, they were doing road construction so getting around even with the rental car was a pain. Also, the food court was always packed no matter what time it was. We went for dinner after arriving on a late flight, probably about 9pm and the place was packed. We had a hard time finding a seat...with 2small tired hungry kids it was a recipe for disaster. (Obviously not CBR's fault....our flight was delayed and we just wanted something quick. We didn't realize it would be so crowded that late...poor planning on our part.)

I would go with the French Qtr or Coronado. FQ nudging out CS just a bit.
Quiet there, very quaint, pretty grounds etc.

People seem to either love or hate CSR, but it's our favorite! I know this is blasphemy, but we split a stay between there and the Poly once, and we thought it was every bit as nice and beautiful, and it was more serene.

Well, since I haven't been banned yet, I guess I'd have to say they're all equally GREAT.

Oh.... misread the OT ;-)

Dixie is the most "Disney" of all the Mods. Great common/entertainment area. Beautifully landscaped. Spacious. A true resort experience.

Hi,

Mom & I love Port Orleans Riverside!!! Great place!

Riverside is our favorite for "gorgeous" but we stayed at French Quarter last July and it was wonderful. While the FQ side may not be quite as pretty, it wins serious points for being small. We usually have the luck to get assigned to a room out in Timbuktu and this trip was no different. So when it was close to a hundred degrees ouside, I was THRILLED that our "far out" room was in fact quite close to the pool. The gounds were very nice and our room was new and spotless. We had a great housekeeper. The only thing we really disliked was the scary food court... Not the prices but those horrible masks... EEEEW. Overall, I think Port Orleans is great no matter which side you choose.

So far, it sounds like POR is getting the nod.

Do you like the Mansions or the AB section better?

We love POFQ, but POR is a close second.

I prefer Alligator Bayou...the mansions just seem more like facades on plain old hotel rooms. And growing up down here in the swamp, AB feels like home :beaniepro

I agree, chimera. We weren't very impressed with the rooms themselves at POR (we were in one of the mansions).

It's hard for me to compare places I've stayed pre- (POFQ) and post- (POR) meeting Charles, as he has turned me into a hotel-snob. However, I did enjoy POFQ a good deal more. POFQ simply seemed to have a lot more character. And the size of the ground = proximity to everything.

Our only Moderate experience was a week at Port Orleans FQ back in '97. It was OK--nothing like our DVC stays, but it got the job done. The resort only has one bus stop and we were in the furthest building from it, so from that standpoint it seemed like a lot of walking.

One thing that I also recall from that particular trip is that the busses were shared with PO Riverside (then Dixie Landings.) At that time, POR had at least 4 bus stops. Even though we visited in late September (notable slow period) it seemed like 75% of the time our busses were already full by the time we reached the 3rd or 4th stop at POR.

I tend to think Disney would have done something to address this problem by now, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

My parents have stayed at Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach. They really liked CS but didn't care for CB.

The bus situation is what drives me nuts at the PO. I have stayed in all 4 moderates at least twice (w/the exception of POR- only once, because my mother hated it). I really love them all but the busess at PO is the main reason CSR is my favorite moderate. As well as being a beautiful resort, they don't share a bus. My mother's last trip , we stayed at POFQ and then you have to go to all the stops at POR. We timed it one day, it took 15 min to get out of the PO complex. 15 minutes and you still aren't out of the resort. Drives me nuts!!! Oh how I love DVC:goodvibes

We stayed at BWV in May. The bus route went like this: Swan > Dolphin ( or Dolphin > Swan, I always cofuse those two ) > Yatch Club > Beach Club and FINALLY BWV. Makes for very full buses, very long ride home.

Now after all of this, my DW says " Lets just stay the the ASMovies, it will only be for a night or two.":hammer:

Well, I guess a dollar saved is a dollar I can spend on other stuff.

OMG!

I was just trying to catch up on posts from over the holidays, seeing what I might have missed, and this thread title grabbed me!

What, We're voting on our favorite "Moderators"?

Yikes, I've missed days and days of sucking up to the Moderators?

Ooops, never mind, I read it clearly now, its Moderates, as in those nice places to stay when we run out of points.

Anyway, I've been to them all and prefer POR.

(Whew, sorry guys. :hammer: )

Have a nice weekend!

(BTW I love all the moderators, each and every one.)

Or order of priority:

Port Orleans - the theming is just wonderful!!!!

Dixie Landings - we like the the old southern plantation rooms the best.

Both POR and DL have a great boat shuttle and rentals for tours of OKW, SSR, and DTD.

Caribbean Beach - great for walking and biking and its large lake but it is also quite quite large. We had several great stays when our girls were young (oh how it hurts to type that one)

Coronado Springs -- last only because of the huge conference operations, very nice theming and very wlakable with a nice lake. Unfortunately they closed a nature trail that use to cut through the swamp :(

Great thread! We're actually staying at POR for the first time in a few weeks. I ran out of points :holymoly: .....can you imagine?!?! I think an add-on is needed!

But I digress.....can anybody clarify the bus situation at POR. Is it bad??? I was going to stay at POP but decided to switch to a moderate b/c I was worried about the busses at the value resort. Is POR going to be bad, in terms of getting back to the resor? It will be late January.

THANKS!!!

Coronado springs was by far our favourite moderate resort we have stayed at Dixie Landings and didn't care for it the landscaping is nice and the grounds but the resort just didn't do anything for us very boring. Coronado on teh other hand was brilliant great colours great food selection nice rooms great pool and hot tub just an all around great resort.

I've stayed at POR(alligator Bayou) and CBR and enjoyed both thoroughly. CBR, I enjoyed because it IS large and laid back. It was very nice laying on the hammock at the beach.
POR, I enjoyed because of the refurbished rooms. They did a very nice job with it and it's just a beautiful looking resort also. The mansion section didn't appeal to me for the same reason as a previous poster mentioned.

We have stayed POR in the mansions I think 3-4 times. We were there on our very first trip and always asked to be back in the mansions. Never stayed in AB. POR would be my vote. We have stayed at CB, but not has Disney as POR.

Well, with the savings of two nights, you can book yourself a tour. I guess your DW will have to sit around and wait for you. :bored:

You won't be dissapointed teh All Stars are by far my favourite resorts at Disney so much activity and so much going on it truly is the essence of Disney resorts.
