View Full Version : Marathon: Why Register Using the DVC/CM Form?

For you serious runners out there... I'm thinking of signing up for the Jan 08 Marathon, and comparing registering via the "normal" web site rather than by using the mail-in form available at DVCmember.com...

I can't quite figure why to use the form---other than the $5 off ($100 vs $105). It doesn't give an option to buy the "championchip" or the pin. (Mrs B & G is a little unsure she wants to put up with my training---I figure I might bribe her with a pin!)

Am I missing something? Like that you can order that stuff later on when confirming your registration online?

The discount...that was it for me.

Don't get me wrong, $5 is $5 (or dues on 1 pt!). Just surprised that you aren't given the opportunity to be fleeced like everyone else for the chip and pin.

Also, I would have thought they'd give their own employees more than a $5 break... Since the same form is used for CMs.

B & G, I think the forms vary slightly from year to year. I'm not signed up for this year. Last year's didn't give the pin option (but I'm not sure that's not a new feature altogether), but it did give you the option of noting a chip if you owned one....not to purchase though.

I haven't found the need to purchase a chip yet, despite my consistent running. There's more than 1 system used, and around my area, there's no clear winner...

Nono, looks like the same form. You can enter a chip #, but not buy one.

Assume they give you a chip in your registration packet that you have to return after the race?

Yes, at packet pick up you get your chip, and there's a chip tester on the way out of the area -- your name flashes up on the monitor so you know it's working.

It's pretty cool...'cause you can have your friends and family track you as you do the race. Tagrel's site does a whole "live update" of the runners who frequent their site. Pretty neat stuff.

I'm not sure how motivating that will be... If I run it, we'll be there with my wife's sister, who is 8 years younger and has successfully completed an Ironman Triathalon. Everyone will get to watch her kick my rear end live on the internet.

B&G - Please join us! Register soon, though, the half is already closed!

You can go online and order the commemerative chip or the pin without registering. You should be able to add those to your cart and remove the registration.

lol about your wife's sister. It is very useful tfor spectators to know wher you are when so they can cherr. Not 100% reliable if teh airwaves get overwhelmed, but usually works ok for the full.

Hope to see you there!

So they'll ship the Pins in advance? Or are they picked up at the Expo?
Great idea... Thanks.

lol. I spent a great deal of time trying to get my dh's b-day present (2008 chip) before chips were really set up right. SO, I know the site well. ;) Not sure if tehy ship tehm in advance or not. I'm thinking you get them in your packet, but I'm not sure. I think I purchased tehm and they have not come. However, in all my frustration, I'm not really sure if I did, as they were not the main item I was heading for. :p
