Okay, even the CM at MS was like, "what the heck is going on that week?". I told him that's when the internet kingdom descends on WDW. He seemed scared, LOL. :crazy: Thought we would have fun waiting and seeing who's waitlisted for where. I'll go first. At SSR now, Nov 30-Dec 7 1BR, waitlisted for OKW, same dates, 1BR.
Who else? :dust
Dec. 2 -7 for a 2 br at OKW. Have the first night (Dec. 1).
Rest of week we're jammed into a 1 br at BWV.

I have a 1BR BW view for me and my daughter. Keeping that. But about 3 weeks after the 11 month window my daughter's best friend's family decided to go the same time as us. (I had told her more than once about the importance of getting to me by the 11 month window, but, nooooooo:))
There are 5 of them, they wanted to stay with us at BWV . I was able to get them a 2BR BW perferred view for all nights but the last one. I had to get them a 1BR at BW for that night. I'd really like it (and naturally so would they) if they didn't have to move that last night. So I am waitlisted for their trip for either:
The last night to come through with a 2BR preferred view.
Their whole visit to come through in a BW or Standard view 2BR.

Currently have a 1 bedroom Boardwalk view for the 2-7th. Waitlisting for a 2 bed. standard. This trip will ONLY be with me and the kids. (PROMISE! ;) ) With 2 teenage girls that travel with lots of hair stuff/supplies/equiptment it would be great for them to have their own bathroom! :D

I have a 2 bdrm at OKW from 12/2-12/11, currently waitlisting for any catagory at the BW 12/2-12/9 as a group and adding each day on day by day. Waitlisting each day separate frightens me.
Wouldn't it be neat if there was something online to watch the waitlist shift around?? You could see if you even had a chance in your waitlist coming through.:dust :dust :dust to us all!!!

Not sure if the above is referring to my post but if so there's a misunderstanding. I am keeping my 1 BR for me and my daughter, and the friend's family needs a 2BR the whole time they are there.

No waitlist yet but on June 7th I will be calling to hopefully switch our 1 bdrm at SSR to a 1 bdrm concierge at AKLV.

Wow! I feel so fortunate. I just called a few days ago to get Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1 in a BCV studio, and they were all available for me. The first night, I waitlisted for VWL and in June, I'm going to probably be waitlisting for anything at AKL for that first night. I'm one of those people who likes split stays rather than spending all my time at one resort. And since I'll be solo, packing and moving is pretty easy. "It's all part of the experience" as Sparky Griswold says.

We are currently at SSR from Nov 25 to Dec 7.
Wait listed for OKW and then second choice of BW-any view.
Just a studio.

I often enjoy spending the first couple of nights at a new resort, one I've never stayed in. It's a good way to sample a resort without being possibly stuck and miserable for a long period of time. Then if I like it, I return another time for a longer stay. On our first stay as DVC members, we decided to add one night-just called MS and said "Give us the last night at any other resort." Now it's become a habit to stay someplace new.

I agree it has something for everyone we alsways split our stay we do our first week at one resort go someplace else for the weekend then to a different resort for the second week.

O.K. It's all set!! I added my last night to complete the waitlist for any view 2bdrm at BW 12/2 to 12/11!!
I had to add that I just called DH and asked what he thought of a split stay and he said he wouldn't mind that at all. So I called MS and adding a waitlist for BW any view for 2/7 to 2/11.
I know, I know, get a life right!?

AK bookings for AK owners start this week. Early June for non-owners. So, we have something coming online to possibly alleviate the gridlock. Leftcoaster and TJkraz estimate that it is 100 villas coming available for booking in December.

Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble getting on the DVC site?? I tried yesterday a couple times and this morning with no luck.:(
Called MS to check out waitlist status and got my first not so friendly CM. I asked if a lot of AKV ressies were coming in and she said they were but in regards to the waitlist "you just have to give it some time" I guess she missed the MS training day where they covered the psychological profile of a DVC owner.:hyper:

The web-site has been down all morning - I am in the UK and haven't been able to get on all day.
Please all keep calling MS, as they might twig what is going on and move Dec 1-15 from 'Adventure' to 'Dream' season at least. Thus, lessening the points I need for my Easter vacations :clappingh

The CM that made my ressie said not to get my hopes up, so I am trying to be realistic.
Makes you wonder if they should switch some point weeks around and ease the gridlock, huh? In this case, just to suit our purposes of course! :ROTFL:
There was a problem with booking AKV in 2008...some IT system problem that may be impacting what is being populated to the website. Or else, there were a lot of changes and it's gonna take days to sort everything out and assign new reservations. It'll settle down just in time for everyone else to try for AKV in early June :slyasafox .

Do they keep a record of each time we call and the reason for the call? I had no idea they could tell if we called "too frequently" to ask about the waitlist. I have never had a CM with an attitude when I have called. How could you tell they "don't like it one bit"?
I too have heard too many stories of rooms becoming available for a waitlist at the time someone calls to check. In fact it happened to me once. So it's hard to sit tight and wait for a call when you know there's a chance that you'll luck out if you call them. I too check the waitlist on the website regularly, but I admit to calling at least once a week to see if by some amazing bit of luck (cough cough) what I am waiting for just became available. :ang2:

Mar, I don't know if it's me or what, but my recent inquiries into waitlists have gotten some pretty sharp responses. Ranging from "nothing yet" in less than 2 seconds( even before I give them dates) to a lecture on how the waitlist works, and that they will call me, and that she "doesn't understand" people that keep calling to check on waitlist. Sometimes it's a heavy sigh into the phone. I would call more, I just really don't have the desire to call more. (I hate calling MS, I know I'm weird) I don't think they have any way of keeping track of how many times we have called.
In the end, I think persistence pays off a lot. It's just how much elbow grease you want to put into it. Wasn't there a poster here that called everyday at closing and finally filled in their dates? Or did I dream that?
Here's hoping we are all successful! :howudoin:
ETA: My apologies to all the very helpful CMs at MS that go out of their way to help us get our pixiedust. I guess I should change my post to "some" at MS don't like it one bit. I was generalizing/stereotyping way too much.

You certainly didn't dream it, I even saved the link to the thread because it annoyed me so much. I wasn't annoyed the man got what he needed, just annoyed at a system that seems to be so flawed and unfair. Unfair really gets my dander up. :yuck: :crymeariv :mad:

Ahhh, yes, memories. I remember not liking DVC that day, not one bit. Like you, I was happy for the poster, as he seemed like a generally nice guy just needing some magic for his much needed vacation. It was however, a splash of cold water in my face, knowing that everytime the MS says, "no no, it goes automatically to the waitlist" it is a lie. (if I had a nickel everytime one of them said that, I'd have my fat butt in Celebration now...) :cool:

I think it was Monday that I got a call from MS...my Dec 6 waitlist (BWV studio) had come through! Yippee...they had to call (even tho I was on auto) because I had to borrow points from 2008.
When I had points 'in holding' last year from an October cancellation, it was really hard to find availability to use them by my use year end (Feb1). So I was calling a LOT and no one ever seemed to get annoyed. Of course that wasn't a waitlist issue, but a Can I Please Get a Ressie For Somewhere Issue!!!!

Well after discussions with my partner in crime, we have decided to stay at SSR. I'll be at OKW June and Oct, so I'll be itching to go to SSR by Dec anyway. (I get mopey when we see it across the water at DTD on a nonSSR trip, yep, I'm weird)

I have officially switched my waitlist from OKW to SSR...just had to clear it with my 3rd adult as the additional points will come out of her "kitty." She loves SSR anyway, so she's in for that.
So, if I get my waitlist for a 2 br at SSR, a 1 br BWV-PV will be coming available for someone waiting. :fingerscr

Is there somewhere to actually check the waitlist on the member site? I just look at my scheduled vacations.
So, if there is somewhere else I can look, even to just be certain weare waitlisted for OKW, please fill me in.
No waitlist to view. What I look at is my vacation details...and then see that nothing has changed on my upcoming trip in Dec. :mad:

If misery loves company then here I am! I have 3 out of 4 nights in a 2BR at BWV for a friend of mine. (My own ressie for me and my dd is secure). The last night I had to put them in a 1BR. Been on the waitlist since 10 months and one week out. (I TOLD them to tell me at the 11 month window, grrrr!!). Well at least they have a place to stay, and I am hoping that if the last night 2BR doesn't come through at least they will let them stay in the 1BR portion of wherever they are and not completely move to another 1BR.

still waiting here too on our BWV 2bdrm any view...although with the MIL and FIL going on this trip we're feeling comfortable that OKW is a good place to be as well....and all that OKW 2 bdrm space!!!!

I rarely go to the DIS, but I was looking for a thread about Off Kilter (what else? LOL) that someone here mentioned and while looking for it happened to notice one about the waitlist. It was a recent post where someone reported calling to check on their waitlist request and lo and behold something "happened" to come through when they called.
Just had to vent here, as I HATE those stories!! Always makes me think this whole waitlist thing is done very unfairly. Irritates the heck out of me. I know I've posted this before, thanks for listening to me whine. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!:burningma

DVC and Disney in general really need to upgrade their technology.

That is very aggravating! We've never used the waitlist before and it is pretty stressful for me...I really have to loosen up on my obsessive planning. I may have to call later today to see if it's true :innocent: :lmbo:

I don't get it either but I have heard this story so many times and even had it happen to me once. You call to ask about the waitlist, they check and say oh wait something just now became available. I doubt I was at the top of the waitlist at that point, it was just luck.
I've linked this thread before, but here it is again. It annoyed me so much, and still does. Not because he got what he wanted, but because it really proved to me that the DVC waitlist system stinks. It makes me think that I should call round the clock, but I don't have the time or the desire to do so. Those with more time/initiative do seem to get what they want:

WOW this is weird. Looking around at this thread because I am still wait listed for one night and find what seems to be a vent about one of my post on the other board. It is true that I called on Sunday to book for the 9th to the 13th for a studio and nothing was available. But there was supposedly a one bedroom open that I didn't take (foolishly). So the next day I called back and explained my situation and MS said there is a studio at SSR open for the 10-13 but no one bedroom anywhere. This time I decided to take what I could get and book.
Reading parts of this thread I see that this 1st couple of weeks in Dec. is a HOT time at DVC. I was really surprised when I wasn't able to find a studio anywhere on property on my first call. I have to agree, even though I have benefited, that the system seems flawed. I am still looking for one day and from the sounds of it I need to call to make sure I get a shot at it.
Sorry to hear I may have taken someone's room but please spare the innocent. I didn't mean to. I feel really bad though I know its not me. I still think that it comes down to many other issues including the wait list system. I know a couple that reserved a while back that will be down there at the same time in a 2bdrm at OKW. They are Renters (but still friends) :) so this is one case where non members are taking rooms from members. That doesn't seem fair. If there was only a way to determine renters from members and give members the ability to have priority it would be nice. Not even going to touch the rooms that are left to rent to the general public through WDW.
I guess there is no perfect world but I do wish everyone luck on getting their rooms for their trip. It would be a shame if not all members could get rooms at their DVC.
By the way I'm going to watch what I post in the future... that kind of freaked me out. :)

I don't think anyone is mad that you got a room, so please relax. I think what is frustrating people is that you supply evidence of a continuing problem after the system is supposedly fixed to be "automatic."
There seems to be a definite break in DVC's overall backend technology design. If the waitlist worked properly, there's NO WAY a MS rep could clear that inventory. It would be in a holding area of freed up inventory. A batch run at the end of the business day would pair requests against all freed up inventory. Too many anecdotal stories of this not being the case for it to be exceptions each time! And gee, if we want to get out of the late 80s, the matches could be run real time, with matches being made all day long....
I guess it is time for me to make myself a pain with MS. :teacher:

At the risk of increasing your aggravation, I, too had something similar happen. I called to cancel my waitlist for a 2 BR BW std for 2 remaining days for the first week of Oct (I already had several days booked, plus the same time in a 1 BR). I canceled the waitlist, and about 20 min later the CM called me back. She asked if I was sure I wanted to cancel as she "happened to notice there was a match for [my] dates". While I appreciated the fact that the CM called me back to offer the room, I doubt I would have been offered the room had I not just called.

I don't think anyone is mad that you got a room, so please relax. I think what is frustrating people is that you supply evidence of a continuing problem after the system is supposedly fixed to be "automatic."
There seems to be a definite break in DVC's overall backend technology design. If the waitlist worked properly, there's NO WAY a MS rep could clear that inventory. It would be in a holding area of freed up inventory. A batch run at the end of the business day would pair requests against all freed up inventory. Too many anecdotal stories of this not being the case for it to be exceptions each time! And gee, if we want to get out of the late 80s, the matches could be run real time, with matches being made all day long....
I guess it is time for me to make myself a pain with MS. :teacher:
First, absolutely--I am not at ALL mad at anyone who called at the "right" time and got a room they were waiting for. As I said, it happened to me once, and I certainly didn't say "but wait, isn't there a list, how can you just give me this room because I happened to call now?"
What does peeve me is what you wrote in the second paragraph nono. Too many anecdotal stories of folks calling at that "right time". There should never be availability just because of timing, a waitlist should go in order. I totally blame DVC not the member(s) who got lucky.
I think it is time to write a letter of complaint, and I will do that today. Probably won't resolve a thing, but I am curious to see what they write back. I'll let you all know when I get a reply.

Sorry that I sounded different in my post but I'm all good. I just wish the system worked correctly. And everyone had the rooms they wanted. There is a problem in the system and I think it goes much deeper than just a simple list. I guess my point was that there are too many rooms that either go to non-members or some that are held that we don't even have a chance at in my understanding. As the membership has grown to the huge number it is today it seems like now is a good time to revisit a lot of policies. Will it happen, who knows but I sure wish it would.
Keep us informed on DVC's response to you letter, I for one will be interested to hear what they say.
Well I called at the beginning of the evening yesterday, and was told "Still no room at the inn." But, in talking with the rep, she suggested that we expand our waitlist to everywhere, even though our best chance is SSR, which is where we want to stay. She says that while early Dec. is basically out of hand, it does have a lot of changes that occur as school starts and obligations make it necessary for plans to change.
So, for all of us waiting, we may not see a whole lot of action for another month or so...if at all. But, I still think it is gridlock...that can only be relieved by AKVs coming online faster than expected. I'll keep hoping for all of you if you keep hoping for me! :fingerscr

OMG I am stunned! Just called to check on my waitlist and I got the one last day I needed for my friends in a 2BR preferred at BWV during the week of the MO meet. Up til now they had a 2BR for 3 of the 4 nights they'd be there and a 1BR for the last night. They are a family of 5 and their kids range from 12-17 so the 1BR would be a tight fit. Besides, who wants to go from a 2BR to a 1BR if they don't have to? Even if they were able to keep the 1BR portion and not move to a totally new villa it's a PITA to have to move all their stuff from the studio into the 1BR the last night of their trip.
I am sooooo excited!! And yeah, btw, I think I made one of those lucky calls that was timed just right. They hadn't already actually taken me off the waitlist, and I had requested NOT to be called if it came through, to just book it if there was availability. (I realize that is the way it is for everyone now but I put in my request before that change was implemented). Anyway, it was more like "Yes I have availability for that night, do you want it? DO I WANT IT? YESSSS!!!
Wow I can't believe it actually came through. I'm on cloud nine. Loads of pixie dust to all who are still waiting!! I was waiting since the end of January for this room, miracles DO happen!!:dust:goob: :woohoodan :kilt :bouncingc

Thanks everyone! I am still stunned I got it, as I called sporadically since January and had no luck up until today. I was so nervous that when the cm cancelled the 1BR that the 2BR availability would disappear before she booked that and I'd end up with nothing. Thankfully that didn't happen. I still have them waitlisted for a BW view, but if that doesn't come through it's no biggie, at least my friends have a 2BR the whole trip.

I wonder if this is a plausible reasoning for the 'waitlist' mystery:
There is the DVC member inventory and members call and book and then that inventory gets all used up and people go on a waitlist. When a member calls and cancels, those points go (as we've led to believe) to the next person on the waitlist.
But, as I understand it, there are other 'points' that are exchanges or cash.
Disney of course wants those all used up and not wasted.
So, maybe DIsney 'releases' some of these rooms that were meant for cash and when 'cash' customers aren't banging at the door, perhaps they do an internal type exchange where a cash room availability becomes a point availability. Maybe these rooms don't automatically get put into the waitlist area.
The reason I thought this might be a possibility is that it seems that people really do find availability one or two weeks out using DVC points. I have no idea how these systems work, mind you, but if I were running a hotel, I know that I'd want to fill up every room all the time....so if I had a backlog of one type of room (cash) and a waitlist for another (points), I might 'borrow' here and there...always keeping the books clean in the end of course, but filling up the rooms as needed.
Not writing this as an excuse or anything, just thought this might be what happens at times.

What happened to me was a little weird, but it all might have been a coincidence. I posted some of the story, here is the whole thing:
I called MS and said I wanted to check my waitlist, but that I was at work and couldn't access the website from there. I have no problems doing so at home, but my job must somehow block certain sites/pop ups, and I can never get onto the DVC site there. The CM misunderstood me and transferred me to someone who asked what computer problem I was having. I explained the situation, said it wasn't really a problem with the computer, more of an access from work problem. I expected to be transfered back. But no, she looked and said "I see you are on the waitlist for one night in a preferred 2 BR or for the whole week in a 2BR BW view. I said right. Been there done that, and they always said, "nope, nothing now". But this time she said "I have availability for the one night in the 2BR preferred, do you want it?
So I am not sure if me being transferred to someone else had anything to do with me getting lucky here. But I do wonder if the outcome would have been the same regardless of who I spoke to, and it was just a coincidence, or if somehow this other line had access to stuff that the "regular" cms didn't. Dec. is just CRAZY with DVCers... I booked a BWV view day by day but only a 1 bedroom. :hammer: that I didnt do the 2 bed standard. We are a group of 5 going now so Im gonna feel smooshed ::crowded: When I called back to see if there was any availability I could actually here the cm giggling at me!

Ours has not come through yet either. But we figure anywhere at WDW is better than being home and working!!!!
When I checked on mine Friday, I had to click on Vacation Details as I banked the points a few weeks ago. So can not look at the point balance anymore.
What I found out when I went into the vacation details was we are checking out on Friday. For whatever reason, I had it in my mind we were leaving on Thursday. So that was a bonus for me.
Since we are waiting on two weeks, ours will never come through. I could have booked it as a split stay, and then wait listed a shorter time period, but we are somewhat dead set against moving in the middle of vacation.

I rented points for four nights prior to Thanksgiving, planning to check out on that Wednesday (before it really gets crowded) We could only get 3 nights and I was put on a waiting list either for that night or if 4 nights open up somewhere else. My question is do they automatically fill the waiting list if it matches up or do you have to keep calling?

We are on a wait list for OKW for 12/11 thursday for 1 day in a studio. I just put it in last week. Can anyone comment on my chances? It sounds like
many are waiting and I wonder when they put their request in?
I can only wait until the end of Oct because if I don't get the day I will louse the points and must bank by that date.
