When would you arrive after NYE?

I'm starting to plan out next year. I'm trying to decide on arriving on Monday the 1st or Tuesday the 2nd. Course arriving on the 1st would give us an extra night, but do you think room availability will be slim pickings still on that day? (Like we'll end up in a smoking studio with no tub and facing the dumpster with the longest walk down the hall?!? :duck: ) Thoughts?

I think I ruled out arriving on Sunday the 31st cause for one, my kids aren't gonna want to stay out late and two, if we arrive that day we're sure to get the room nobody wants... And arriving on Saturday the 30th is like a million points!!!

I would call MS and ask about 1st or 2nd for check-in. They can tell you which day the rooms really begin to free up. My vote was for the 2nd to enable for a more relaxing NYE and 1st at home.

Shan, I would go for the 1st or 2nd and avoid the points crush

Assuming you are driving, I would go for the 2nd and avoid some of the questionable driving practices one might see on the 31st/1st combination

I will have to talk to DW - maybe this will be the trip when we all finally are down there at the same time!

Hi Shan - still have to check with Sue - she needs to see if school calendar out for 06-07 year yet (she is a teacher) and then if all goes well we will have some challenges on accomodations - we may have to stay at SSR or OKW - our DEC06 UY points:

BCV: 2 :bugeyed:
VB: 135 :sunny:
SSR: 24 :hammer:

As you can see a total of 161 points - if we come before Jan 2 we will be looking at an offsite stay (horrors :boohoohoo ) or a cash stay :bugeyed:

I guess we could borrow from the DEC07 UY but would rather avoid that

Last month we were at BW-standard when EPCOT had a trial run of their New Years Eve Illumination Show - What we saw was so fantastic that we are planning on going Dec 2007.

Hoping to check in on 12/31 and stay til the following weekend. My DS is currently working at MGM in the CP, the day before New Years eve they went to a phase 1 twice (resort & annual pass holders submitted only). N.Y.E he worked from 5:00 to 4:00am said it was real busy.

Not really planning on entering any park on the 31rst but can think of no better way to spend New Years eve then having a quite drink with my feet up on my balcony watching the fireworks with people i love.

Shan, I was reading on the DISBoards about some hectic check-ins on the 1st, but if you are flexible about when you actually enter your room, I think I would go that day. Your drive is about 7 hours, right? So it's not like you are trying to check in at 6am... Besides, you have survived the far- out , HC, gecko-filled studio at OKW -- what more can they do to you? If you go down on the 1st, even if you check in later in the day, it will be done, and by the 2nd you'll be READY TO PARTY! :)

Good idea Colleen. Maybe I should read some recent posts on NYE experiences, although I have promised myself to lay off the computer for awhile... (I've been really busy lately!)

I was now thinking about arriving on the 31st! This past week our school passed a NEW calendar different from the draft and it has us going back sooner than the original. :(

I guess I need to decide SOON!
