Taking a quick time out from vacation to put in a review here...

I was meeting a colleague for dinner, and since she's not into Disney decided that it was a good time to try Raglan Road.

Reservations: called Disney Dining, they don't take same day bookings. Asked the resort operator to transfer me to Raglan Road directly, and immediately got a booking at requested time.

Athmosphere: a beautiful restaurant, which must have taken a lot of $$ to construct. They open at 3pm, and did not get busy until after 7pm.

Service: the only thing lacking here. Our server had a very strong accent, and mumbled, so we could barely understand her. She didn't take the time to explain the menu or answer questions, so we were a little in the dark (more below). A second server did do an excellent job

Food quality: EXCELLENT! as you may know, I travel a lot and eat out almost every night. My colleague has been doing a similar job for 10+ years, and says that other than Thanksgiving and Christmas she doesn't eat home cooked food.

We both had an excellent meal, although we were a little leary as the menu is rather vague in some of the descriptions. I had soup, mashed potatoes and veggies, and all were excellent (you'd be surprised how many times I get a disappointing meal when I order the above items). My colleague was pleased with her shepherd's pie.

The dessert menu is frankly far too vague, and other than bread pudding and apple crumble, we couldn't figure out the other items. We asked our server, and tried to help her, but her lack of English only left us more confused. Finally I ordered one of the chocolate items and my colleague the bread pudding.

WOW! I would go back just to order three desserts if I could ! :loveisint My mystery dessert was heavenly. Another server brought it out, and she explained all of the dessert menu in detail. She also agreed with our feedback and said that she has made the same request of management to add more detail to the menu.

Value: total for two meals, drinks, desserts was $55 after tax before tip. Very good value for the athmosphere and food quality. I have seen several disappointed reviews on another site for food value. No, they don't take the dining plan, but for an excellent meal it was worth every penny.

I highly recommend Raglan Road, and hope to go back again this week with other travel companions to enjoy a second meal (and more dessert!!!!!)

Note that they had a quick serve location on the side which offers fish and chips and deep fried chocolate bars. I was talking to a CM at the UK Pavilion, and she told me that they all love this place as it's very authentic.

Overall an excellent addition to the dining choices at WDW, and a new favourite of mine!!!

Wow, thanks for that, bavaria! I love to hear about the new places.

Is this a place you could take kids? What was the "feel" of the restaurant?

:goodvibes I would say that it's definitely a family place. There was a bar area seperate from the dining area.

The main dining room is sectioned into several areas. There was a family with kids behind us, and it looked like they were served drinks in kid-oriented containers.

There is also a kids menu and most of the food is comfort food so it would probably be suitable.......

I'm already trying to decide if I can go back 2x more on this trip!!!!

edited to add:

I belive that the live entertainment doesn't start until 9pm. It was somewhat quiet while we were there (fine with me). The lighting wasn't that dark as you might expect, but there were playing around with the lighting. Lots of dark wood, fireplace... It's a very comfy feel.

Thanks again!

What was the entertainment? This is really just curiosity because I can tell you right now, if we take the kids, there is no way we are eating after 9 :) !

Apparently it's live music (which varies, I think from small bands to soloists) and some Irish dancing. If I go back this week, I'll check for you....

9pm is past my bedtime most nights! :faint:

Thanks for the review!

Just curious, did they have pre-recorded Irish music playing while you were there? DH is 100% Irish (1st generation American) and he loves taking our kids to Irish type stuff. Most Irish pubs aren't too family friendly LOL

Wonderful Review bavaria  . I was fortunate enough to join Colorado Belle there for a dinner and I have to say it was wonderful. I had the fish and chips ( I guess I wasn't too daring) as the menu left me kinda wondering....what is that? My kids ate off the kids menu. I dont remember what it was that they had but they had clean plates! :) CB I believe had a shrimp appetizer and we both shared our share of the Irish Brew!!!! :ale: FUN!!!!!!!!!!!! My kids (including chip126's son) enjoyed dessert and I will post a pic if possible.

I was VERY surprised by the size of the restaurant/bar....Its HUGE!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Raglan Road!

oh and the gift shop was lots of fun too!

Irish popular music (some U2) and what I would call Celtic Pop. If there had smoky air and the stench of beer I would have thought that I was in a bar in Newfoundland.... :goodvibes

Not U2! LOL DH is a HUGE U2 fan, we've been to see them 3 times this year already. He's got our kids listening to them all the time (they're 6 and 1). My 6 year old wants to be Bono someday. I was hoping to atleast get away form them on vacation :hammer:

Good to hear they play Irish music for atmosphere during the day too. Thanks!

I ended up going back once more during the week, and food quality was just as good. This time I had a different server and that brought the rating up to an A for me.

I didn't ask if they take DDE, but have read elsewhere that they may - it's worth asking, I suppose.

You can make ADR's for Raglan Road? I noticed Bavaria said we couldn't make same day bookings for it and cap10squid said he had ADR's. Can you get ADR's through Disney Dining, within the regular 180 day time frame, or do you need to call them directly? Thanks!

Can you use your DDE card at Raglan Road?

Re ADRs: Disney Dining will take bookings, but not same day bookings. You can also call the restaurant directly, and will need to do so for same day bookings

Re DDE: I failed to ask both times, but have heard mixed results - some people seem to get the discount, others don't. Sounds like growing pains at the moment

Hi Bavaria,
Yes, I joined jiggerj and her lovely family at Raglan Road.
At first, the bill came without the DDE card and jiggerj asked the waitress if they took it...and she said she didn't think so. But we sort of said, well, will you go ahead and ask for future reference at least and long/short: yep, they took it.
(It pays to double check!)

I ate over half of ji's DD's 19 dessert and it was scruptious. My shrimp dish was ok....but as I recall the service was pretty slow.

But the best part is that I drove back to BWV and realized that I had left my eyeglass case which contained ALL my cc's,money, resort id, keys, etc in it. So I raced back and they had it waiting for me. WHEW! That always gives me fond memories of a place!!!!

While I didn't really look around much, the dark woods and high ceilings were of good quality. I think once they get the 'help' sitch better informed and efficient, that my overall impression will go up.

Add us to the list of those who enjoy Raglan Road. We were in the mood for something different and DH thought we should give this a try. I was a little reluctant at first, as I thought it was mainly a pub and, since neither of us drink, we might feel a bit out of place. Was I ever wrong! It's a lovely restaurant and we both enjoyed our dinners (chicken pie for me and shepherd's pie for DH) greatly.

Great reviews. We might just have to try this is April.
