Started officially doing my training program that eases me into running from walking on Monday.

DH got me an iPod nano and the Nike+ kit and helped me get it calibrated. (It was way off from his, guess cause I'm so short?) Anyway, it rocks! :rockband:
(Despite the fact I've rung up a major bill on iTunes... :scary: )

I was surprised to see how far I went on Monday. I was way off on what I thought I was walking before! I thought I was putting in about 18 miles a week, but after using this Nike+ and driving around to make sure it was right it appears I was averaging around 25 miles per week walking!

I'm signed up for my first 10K - Race for the Taste (I know small to you marathoners out there!) and I was a tad worried about staying within the 15 minute pace and not getting picked up by THE VAN, but it appears I'm well within the pace according to Nike+ even with me still doing more walking than running right now.

What an awesome and simple motivator. Maybe I won't die after all! Wish me luck! :woohoo:

Very cool Shan! I'm not really up on teh Nike+, buthave heard good things! PLease do not belittle you're 10K. Any distance is worthy of feeling like it's an accomplishment, but a 10K is most certainly a respectable distance! Good luck!!! :dust

Shannon I think you will love your nike+. I love mine. I had to calibrate several times because I could tell it was off. I have also asked for a garmin for my birthday. I want the one with a heart monitor given my background.

There is a sensor and small plugin you can get for your nano that is from Nike that can assist you in training. You calibrate it to you then it can track your runs/walks as to time and distance. The good news is that you can get the sensor and the plugin for around $30. You would also probably want a wrist or arm band for the nano that accommodates the little plugin.

You can buy Nike running shoes that have a slot in the shoes to put the sensor. There are also sensor holders that you attach to the laces of the shoe. (that is what I have.) You then attach this small plugin to the slot where you attach your nano to the computer. You then tell the nano that you are running etc and it tracks your time and distance. You can have a voice tell you in the ipod as you run where you are in the run, ie it will tell you you have gone 1 mile or you have 2miles to go.

You can set up a running list of songs and even have power songs that will get you or keep you going.

When you reattach your ipod to your computer, you will get a free account at Nike that will download your sessions to it and keep track for you. You then have a record of your runs/walks and can see your improvements.

the ipod can be set to no voice, or male or female depending on what you want.

This device tracks your progress by the motion of the sensor. I have read that some feel it is not as accurate as they want, but those seem to be the most serious of runners and they get a garmin gps device that tends to be very accurate because it tracks you by gps. The one I want also has a heart monitor with it.

So now you probably know more than you wanted to know about the nike+ and the nano.

cobbler, you can get the Nike+ kit at Target for $29.99. You'll also need something to put the sensor in your shoe. DH and I got this -

It cost $7.99 with shipping.

YesDear, did your Nike+ keep getting out of calibration?

Shannon, I have calibrated mine twice. I knew the first one was off because I did not understand how to do it.

I got an armband designed for the sensor that came with a shoe pocket. Here is a link to what I got.

Ya, DH showed me that armband set just the other day. I have the Nike+ armband and I don't like how you can't see the nano screen. DH tried to rig something else up for me and the other day my nano went flying into the air.

Is the set you have easy to work the nano? Is the nano screen covered in plastic or open?
