When going to the Bahamas on the 3 day Disney cruise are we required to have a passport like we do for the Mexican cruises? Or are birth certificates sufficent?

We are thinking about adding the three day cruise at the end of our Sept DVC trip.

You will need a passport to go on the cruise. When I went in November you could have still gone without a passport but it's not worth bringing all of the documents needed for ID.After january 07 you must have a passport. The passports are good to have anyway.

Actually, they extended the deadline for passports for cruises until Jan 2008. I do agree it is easier to have passports. Plus if God forbid something happens and you need to fly home from a foreign port, you will need a passport for that.

There was even some news very recent that children may not need passports at all (for flying, driving or cruising out of the US) until even later than 2008

"Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries."
