As of October 28, this event is cancelled.
Sorry.
Ron and Kathy

As noted in the original round of postings, Ron and I are interested in going to Gaylord Palms ICE.

We are planning on going the evening of December 4th, which is the same night as the MVMCP group event (we will be attending the Christmas Party on 11-27-the same night we always attend).

Since this is off site, we will need cars (we will have a truck that seats two).

If anyone is interested, let me know.

9° is the average temperature inside “The Florida Fridge.”

All guests are provided calf-length, hooded winter coats to keep them warm. Coats are available in all sizes, including children and infants. For maximum comfort guests should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Hats and gloves are recommended - and are available for purchase.

All pathways through the ICE! exhibit are carpeted, and boots are not required. We do, however, recommend wearing comfortable, close-toed walking shoes.

Is ICE! wheelchair and stroller accessible?
The ICE! attraction is accessible by both wheelchairs and strollers. Although a limited number of wheelchairs are available on-site, to minimize waiting times, guests requiring a wheelchair may bring their own.

May I take photos?
Guests are welcome to bring cameras and take photos of the ICE! exhibit. Many of our guests experience a "fogging" of the lens when exiting into warmer temperatures. This, however, usually goes away once the camera warms up. Please check the manufacturer information regarding the cold tolerance of your camera equipment. Gaylord Palms™ Resort is not responsible for damage to any camera equipment caused by the extreme cold temperature. For your convenience, single-use cameras are available

I 've been trying to see ICE for a couple years now...And I'm free the night of MVMXP. So count me IN!!!!! I have always rented a car and this year should be no exception...so i 'll have room to take at least 3 other people.

This would be a nice time to sneak over to Celebration too, if John snd Susan are still up for it!

For those of us who never heard of this, what is it?

ghost...I'm going to try to link this, but I'm not so good at linking...if it doesn't work, go to www.gaylordpalms.com and then put in "ICE" on the search space and it will bring up phtos and stuff.

It's really supposed to be magical.

The Gaylord Palms is just about a mile from WDW across I-4. on Osceola.

Ah, CB, you're ahead of me as usual. As soon as I saw the ICE thread, I thought, "gee, that's right around the corner." Absolutely, keep a stop off in Celebration in mind. I have no idea what our plans will be but I hope there is a time when a bunch can stop by the house in Celebration for a drink during the Dec trip.
Rita, the ICE show is really nice..very well done...sorta like going to a museum....but every thing is carved in (sometimes) colored ice...and it IS cold as hell. It's a bit pricey and an hour is all you'll need but we'd recommend it.

Cold as hell?

Remember this thread was started by a Northern. Cold to me is probably not the same as cold to you.

Hi all!

My flight comes in on the 4th around 11am. Assuming there are no storms to contend with in Maine or wherever I'm stopping on the way down.

So I can't buy a ticket ahead of time, just in case........but assuming I get there OK, I do want to go to the Gaylord.

I'll be staying at the BWV and I won't have a car, so looking to tag along with someone.....

Nancy,

Right now we are at SSR that trip, but hoping to switch out somewhere else at seven months.

We would love to have you join us. More than likely we will be driving the truck that trip, but CB said she would be renting a car.

It is still a long way out, lots of time to plan.

John...Coop still talks about your cool "navigation" thingy that you had in your car! :kickingco :coolcar:

(not that you actually needed it...I think you could get around on property blindfolded by now!)

Kathleena,
Pretty sure I'll have a car..and I'm staying at BWV so of course you are welcome to join me in driving there. I bet we end up having a full car!

I can call tomorrow to try and switch out our reservation.

We are not the type of people to want to move during our trip, so I decided to wait and try and switch it out all at once.

Cool CB! Thanks for the ride!:highfive:

Just went to look at the website and see it closes at 8:30pm. Made me wonder if we had ever mentioned/discussed a time around this. I would sure love to get back for Illuminations on my first night there - tradition and all ya know.

Not that I have to know six months in advance! :innocent: Just something to put on the "To Do" list.

I also see I will be 1.5 months short of the age 55 discount. But, since the same discount applies 24 hours in advance, I will just order based on what the weather looks like from ME to FL.

I wonder if they ever sell out? :santa:

Kathleena,

We are planning on Tuesday, December 4.

CB, Ron and I are all doing the Monorail Drink athon, which starts around 2PM.

And then CB is headed over to Chef Mickeys for the group dinner there. That is supposed to start at 5PM.

So whenever she is done, we would be ready to go. The closer we get to it, we can set a time.

I am excited you will be joining us.

Where are you staying? Right now we are at SSR but waitlisted for OKW and for BW.

I'm staying at BWV.

ICE closes at 8:30..............

OK, all the MO planners have shamed me into posting an update:crackedup

We are still set for Tuesday, December 4.

Earlier that day CB, Ron and I will be partaking in the Monorail Drink a Thon.
I believe that is starting around 2PM. I have been told to allow no less than 45 minutes per stop.

Not sure Ron and I will be able to finish the loop as we are not what you would call seasoned drinkers:smile18:

Which leads me back to ICE.

It closes at 8:30.
John said we would not need more than an hour.
I would assume that is due to the nine degree temps and not that you would be bored.

It looks like it is around 15 miles away.
I would want to get there early enough to make sure we can see as much as we want to see.
So maybe head over there around 6:00PM.
What does everyone think about that?

We need to wear long pants and closed toed shoes. They will provide parkas for us. They suggest you wear a hat and gloves, of course, they have those available to purchase. I will be bringing my own.

Kathleena, you are the one coming in that day, so when will be a good time for you?

Do you know about what time you would be getting in? Or is it too early to tell?

I truly am not a six month planner so good thing there is not a huge interest in this.

But the rest of you, just wait, you will be so jealous when we show up sporting frost bite. How many people can say they experienced that in Florida?
:brrrrrr: :brrrrrr:

Let me know what you think about the time.
Tickets go on sale August 1.
My gut tells me this is not a popular ticket item, but you know, people who live there, just might be starved for winter fun and games and flock :goob: :goob: :goob: to see ICE.

So the Gaylord is on Osceola just on the other side of I-4. From the BW, I just turn at Pop cut across to Osceola and turn left and it's about a mile or so. Maybe 15 minutes, but not 15 miles I shouldn't think!

We have to pay for parking as I recall, but maybe we can all jam into one if we are a small group. I'm thinking the drinkathon might start a bit later than 2 and I'm also thinking I'll need a nap before I'm fit to drive after drinking..whohoo.

kathleena

Well, given the drinkathon situation, looks like this will be later than I had hoped. I have a guest arriving in the evening and was hoping to go to the Gaylord earlier (eg, I'm looking for 5-5:30).

After reading your comments here, I thought it over for a while but have decided to pass and hope that perhaps I can get there later in the week.

Thanks anyway for your planning!

Kathleena,
I am so sorry you might not be able to go with us.

I don't think Ron and I have formally set a time for this.

I also am not sure Ron has totally agreed to the Drink a thon. Actually not sure he has agreed at all.

So don't give up on it yet.

Kathy
