View Full Version : Where do the SSR boat shuttles stop?

This may not be the best question to ask in light of the SSR bus ongoing debate.
However, we are leaving for Disney next Friday and I really need to get an answer.
We are staying offsite this trip. We are renting a 5-bedroom pool villa a few miles from the parks. I made the reservations before we joined DVC. It's a mom and children type of trip and another lady and her stepdaughter are traveling with me, my two children and my son's friend.(husbands have to work) Anyway, we bought DVC in Jan. I really didn't want to use my points renting accomodations that would be large enough for all of us, plus DH said I couldn't (he's greedy with his points) The villa was a great bargain at $499 for the entire week, no tax, no cleaning fee, so our best option was to keep the reservation.
Here's the dilemma. My son and his friend have "outgrown" Disney for the time being. However, they like the water parks and DisneyQuest. They each have an annual pass just for the water parks and DisneyQuest. But, getting to DisneyQuest is a problem! The bus doesn't stop close to DisneyQuest ( or it didn't last summer, the boys had to walk from the far end of the marketplace, near the Art of Disney shop all the way to DisneyQuest. They got lucky and an employee gave them a lift on a golft cart somewhere near the PI area.)
Does anyone have any ideas on how they can use Disney transportation to get to DisneyQuest? I have an idea but I am not sure it will work.
They ride to the theme park of the day with us, catch a bus to a water park, spend as long as they wish at the water park, then bus to SSR. From SSR take a boat shuttle to DisneyQuest. Is this possible????? If it is what bus should they take and where should they get off to catch the boat?
I own at SSR but have never stayed there. One of my brochures, show a boat launch area almost directly across from DisneyQuest. Is that correct?
If anyone knows a better way to get two teenagers from the waterparks to DisneyQuest with the least amount of walking possible please let me know. I could drive them, but that would be defeating the purpose of Disney transportation convenience.:mrmouse:

first off, I have NO issues of the washed or the unwashed using WDW transportation - on my very first trip to WDW I paid $40 at the Grosvenor in DTD and bought an AP, asked if I could use it on WDW tranportation and happily took the boat to POR. So no heat from me!!!
The bus from SSR leaves from behind Turf Club, ie the main building. It goes to DTD and stops at the Rainforest Cafe stop. There is another set of stops on West Side, behind House of Blues right by DisneyQuest, but those are later in the day. Also, the boats do stop running in inclement weather ie if it rains, is about to rain, or if there is a threat of lightening.
They could also take a bus from SSR to the 2nd ie Pleasure Island bus stop, and walk from there.
They COULD also walk from Typhoon Lagoon, as it's technically across the street, but I wouldn't recommend it.....
Again, no issue from me at all about taking the busses - the kids have ticket to a WDW park (water, theme, or otherwise) and you own DVC - don't let the morality police let you feel bad about any of it!

Thanks for the information. I don't feel bad about it at all. When I purchased my AP and their type of AP I automatically felt entitled to any and all of Disney transportation services. Disney wants their guests to use their transportation and try out and spend $$$ at all they have to offer. It seems like every time I take a Disney bus they are crowded. I just take it for granted that they will be crowded and I use them the least amount possible. I really don't care who's riding them and where they are going. But, thank you so much for the information bavaria.
Do you know what time the bus begins stopping at DisneyQuest? They like to get there almost as soon as it opens and stay until closing (video game fanatics). I just felt so bad last summer when they told me how far they had to walk. I just want to minimize their discomfort as much as possible.
I tried calling Disney to get this information, but the CM I talked to was fairly clueless.

oh, I'm sorry - I have no idea of that. I am a wanderer and like to walk from OKW or SSR to DTD - usually via the OKW footpath which ends up behind House of Blues. That's usually mid to late afternoon, and sometimes I see the boats stopping there.
Hopefully someone can give more specific info.

I did a search and failed. =(
Here's my suggestion to finding out when the busses / boats begin stopping at pleasure island:
When you arrive at WDW, stop by one of the transportation headquarters and ask them for the information. I know there is one at the Pleasure Island bus stops, one outside of The Studios (in the middle between the left and right side bus stops), and I believe I have seen one either at MK or at the TTC.
Otherwise, I'd just ask a bus driver and see how helpful they are.
ETA: You know, I think busses and boats might start arriving at the Pleasure Island area at around 11 am. The shops and restaurants at DTD Westside open at 11 am so, they need to get people over there.
When taking a boat, I would tell the driver that you want to go to the Pleasure Island side just to be sure.

LC that would make sense - when the PI shops open.
Now, what are you doing posting on all these transportation related threads when we have a perfectly good (new!) discussion going about duvets???

Actually I don't think these times are correct. I don't have a cast link with me (I am at the office) but I will try to post the transportation time for you tomorrow (as long as I don't have a senior moment & forget). Marketplace opens at 9:30am every day, and I would bet the buses are there by then. I beleive the West Side opens at 10am, and there is a stop over there for buses. There is also a new water taxi stop at PI, but I am not sure what time the water taxis start running.
If I don't post the info by the end of the week, PM me. I work 2 jobs, so my life is a bit, well, hecktic....
