UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 6:
WELL, EVERYTHING IS FINALIZED. HERE'S SOME ADDED INFO YOU NEED TO KNOW:
1. PLEASE ARRIVE AT 8:20 BY UNITED KINGDOM'S "FISH AND CHIPS". LET THE GUIDE KNOW YOU ARE WITH THE "CHRISTMAS WITH THE GANG" GROUP (OR IF YOU FORGET, JUST LET THEM KNOW YOU'RE WITH MOUSEOWNERS).
2. THE DESSERT BUFFET IS FROM 8:45 TO 9:45, WITH ILLUMINATIONS BEGINNING AT 9:30. ALL REMAINING DESSERTS WILL BE OURS TO KEEP (JUST REMEMBER TO BRING A BAGGIE IF YOU WANT TO BRING ANY HOME).
3. THERE IS ENOUGH SEATING FOR 25-30 PEOPLE. SO IF YOU REALLY WANT A SEAT, MAKE SURE YOU ARRIVE EARLY.
4. IN THE EVENT OF RAIN, THE DESSERT PORTION OF THE EVENT WILL BE MOVED INDOORS (QUITE POSSIBLY NORWAY, 3RD FLOOR, PRIVATE LOCATION). THEN WE WILL MOVE TO THE OUTDOOR VIEWING AREA SINCE ILLUMINATIONS GOES ON RAIN OR SHINE. THEY WILL PROVIDE US WITH RAIN PONCHOS, IF NEEDED. I WILL BE NOTIFIED ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST, BETWEEN 5-6 O'CLOCK THAT EVENING IF THEY DECIDE TO HOLD THIS EVENT INDOORS BECAUSE OF AT LEAST A 50% CHANCE OF FORECASTED RAIN.
PLEASE PM ME WITH YOUR CELLPHONE NUMBERS IN CASE I NEED TO NOTIFY EVERYONE OF THE INDOOR LOCATION. I WILL ARRANGE A TELEPHONE TREE SO EVERYONE WILL BE NOTIFIED IF NECESSARY. ALSO, THERE WILL BE SOMEONE STATIONED AT UK'S FISH AND CHIPS TO PASS ALONG THE INFO. IF POSSIBLE, THOUGH, I WOULD LIKE TO ELIMINATE UNNECESSARY WALKING.
I WILL BE SENDING OUT WRISTBANDS TO EVERYONE AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE (THEY'RE BEING SENT OUT TODAY). IF YOU PREFER NOT TO HAVE THEM SENT TO YOU, I CAN LEAVE THEM AT THE FRONT DESK AT BWV FOR PICK UP. AGAIN, PM ME WITH YOUR DECISION.
ALSO, IF ANYONE HAS ANY DIETARY NEEDS TO BE MET, LET ME KNOW. DISNEY WORKS WONDERS WITH THESE.

SO AGAIN, OLD WORLD COUNTRY MINIATURE DESSERTS, COFFEE, TEA, HOT CHOCOLATE AND FRUIT PUNCH WILL BE SERVED. SORRY, NO MILK (I ASKED).
IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.
LOOKING FORWARD TO ONE GREAT TIME WITH ONE GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE!!!

I'm in Pam! There's an area where you can walk down and get really close by the bridge near IG--is that what you mean mickeydvc? (not the area by the UK, it's further down by the IG). I think that's perfect, but we'd have to stake it out fairly early.

Since Kathyseb is busy tending to hospitalized hubby today, I won't volunteer her location BUT....their secret spot for viewing Illuminations is stellar. And, it can hold a lot of people. And it is perfect for photos/videos etc.

While this 'meet' could certainly be a stand alone meet, it could also be combined with, say, a 10:00 meet at Jellyrolls. (Since there are only a few nights and a lot of night activities, we might have to consider 'staging' times so that we can fit everything in!!

This sounds like a great place to meet. What does everyone think? So, do we already have a location selected? Geez, this isn't so bad!!!!!

Yeah, you're right about combing with Jellyrolls. Once Kathyseb settles down with hubby Ron, I'll ask her about the location. She just might want to keep that one a secret!

Yep, agreed the Jellyrolls/Illumination pairing is a great idea. If you haven't already seen her post, Rozzie suggested pairing the TOT Photo op with Osbourne lights. She and I will coordinate that (as she's working on TOT and I'm the Osbourne lady).

The more efficiently we can do this the better! :) Hey maybe we can do a triple: We can watch the 730 off kilter show, which ends at 8. Then we can stake out our spot for Illuminations and chat until 9PM. Then we watch the show and afterwards off to Jelly's!

If I was not so exhausted, I could tell you where we watch them from, but that is not going to happen tonight.

CB feel free to spill the beans.

Ron did not get to come home, in fact, will more than likely be headed down for a CAT scan in the morning to see what the heck is going on inside of him.

And I have to teach a class tomorrow. So will head to the hospital in the AM, run to the office to teach from 12-3 and then head back.

I could complain, but my boss did find someone else to deliver my three sessions of training in Indianapolis Weds-Fri of this week.

OK...Kathy said to spill the beans about her and Ron's secret viewing place, so I will. Kinda.

It's on the water side of one of the merchandise buildings...in what in busier times and olden days was the most crowded place. But now it seems that people don't go there as much...even tho it gives the best view of all. Kathy and Ron got there about 40 minutes before to stake out a place. I came running over about 5 minutes before and there was still a lot of room to walk and look for them. Luckily Ron saw me in the dark (I am night blind) and we had a perfect viewpoint.

I'm sure that Kathy and Ron would be able to explain it better...but I've watched Illuminations from most every vantage point and this is by far the best.

And after the fireworks, we just sat and talked to let the park empty...and then slowly strolled back home to the BW in the quiet.

One question to all viewers.....do you think it might be worth our while to do a Grand Gathering (just the dessert thing) as opposed to trying to hold down the fort for 20-30 people.
Let me know what your thoughts are re: this and then I'll look into it!

Hmm mixed feelings. I would hate to force people to spend more money. I myself would be up for it, but I would feel badly if some folks that wanted to go were put off by the cost. BTW I never knew you could do the dessert alone as a Grand Gathering.

I think it might be a better idea to just tell everyone to get there as early as possible so we don't have to hold places for a large group. If there are a few stragglers we should be able to fit them in.

Just MHO, I'm fine with doing what the majority want to do. :blueflowe

Well, I'll keep the lines of communication open between all of us, then as the time gets closer, we just might have to take a vote.
Really, I'm all for all of us getting there early, spending time talking until the fireworks, then viewing them as a group.
I do know, though, that the GG is a ver nice location and it's kinda nice to have a place all to yourself.
Let's keep getting more input into this and we'll see what happens.

But Ron and I would be willing to do the GG.

Kathy, is "your" spot kinda behind the store that's dead center when you enter from Future World? (Then you can either go left to Mexico or right to Canada? If that's the spot, Tom and I tried to check it out in May and we couldn't even get close to it, it was so crowded.
Maybe I've got the wrong location, so please clue a clueless girl in, Kathy!

I can answer this one--no that's not the spot. It's an area near the international gateway, off the bridge that leads to France. You walk down a huge staircase that has two levels, the lower level being right on the water. For some reason most people miss this spot. I go down there sometimes in the day to relax and get away from the crowds, most of the time I am the only one there.

You were close, but not quite there. I think.
Or maybe you caught it on a crowded night.

We actually sit dead center between the two stores. So if it was Christmas, we would be directly behind the Christmas tree.

For the F & G show, that is where they had Donald holding the treasure map.

The cement is sloped downward towards the water. We normally sit right at the top row, right by the opening.

If we stand up and turn around we are staring straight at Spaceship Earth.

Since we are in the back row, we can stand and not bother anyone.
Prior to the fireworks and during the show, the sidewalk going from Future World into the area we are in is roped off.
When the fireworks are over, the rope is dropped and you can walk straight out.

The area I think you are talking about is crowded as there is very little room between the store and the water. But where we are is even with the store fronts. It is pretty much all cement between us and the water.

There is a viewing area that is a platform area (I think three or four steps up) in front of this area. If the fire marshall gives the thumbs up, people are allowed to sit up there, which opens the sloped area we are in open up even more.

Sorry, am not really good at calling things their rightful names.
CB, can you help me out here? You watched there with us after your Minnie Meet.

Mar',

I know of the spot you are talking about as we have gone down there and taken pictures.

Sorry, have never watched Illuminations from there.

Normally we are smack dab in the middle of the two gift shops, on average, all but two nights of every single one of our trips.

We get there about an hour early and talk to the CM that are on Rope Patrol.

You know how we can become Creatures of Habit.
Well, this location is a habit of ours.

Only once have we had the smoke blow our way.

I think I've watched Illuminations from every spot around the showcase....
and I have to say that Kathy and Ron' s secret spot was the best:D .

Right up until a few minutes before Illuminations it isn't at all crowded, and then at the 'last call' announcement it got a little crowded BUT everyone in front of us sat down and so there was this lovely view. I was late and was just meandering along thinking, it is so dark I will never find K and R and then all of a sudden Ron spotted me. (My point is that I was in the area, yet walking without having to pick through people or feeling 'in a crowd'. I think you've described really well Kathy, but I think the area is overlooked for some reason...tho I have no idea why.

Anyhow, I think it would be a lovely spot to watch Illuminations. And just like I brought fish n chips...we could all bring a little 'dessert' or drinkie and have our own dessert party!

On the other hand, I did that dessert Illuminations with Pam and it was a wonderful location and the desserts and coffee service was grand! But this was included with a GG dinner
...I don't think you can get dessert alone without the dinner and frankly, the dinner kinda sucked. I remember something about a private dessert party being @$600 but I have no idea how many people that would be (if we had 40 people tho that might be a way to go.)

Pam, why not call GG and just see if there is anything they could do and what the minimums might be?

matysgranma
06-02-2007, 12:36 PM
I'm going to make a call to GG and check out our options. I know I did the GG dessert only with Nono and Poohspal after their marathon. Guys, wasn't it around a $30 pricepoint? and of course, the desserts were delicious!!!
Kathy and CB, thanks for the location input. I will definitely check out that area when I'm there in September.
Mar, we all have those kinds of "dreams". Not to worry. Do you remember that you are getting a little older, and people allow us to have our own little "dreams" (HAHAHAHA!!!!). Just kidding, of course. When I grow up, I want to be just like you!!! Not kidding on that point!

Okay, everyone, after I let Stimpy know we were all set with Illuminations, I decided to dig a little deeper into this Illuminations dessert/viewing thing. Last week I pretty much got nowhere. Every contact I made kept telling me that this had to be a Magical Gatherings and they did not have just a dessert option. Well, today I FINALLY got in contact with someone who knew her stuff.
They'll get back to me with prices and menus, but what I can remember from January, 2007, there was a beautiful array of desserts, coffees, teas, etc. for a price of around $30 each and the view was spectacular (directly to the left of Rose & Crown, down the steps to a private area that would be all ours).
So my question to everyone once again, how many (numbers please) would be interested in shelling out some money for our own private viewing section and some great desserts? Once I get the menus, I'll let everyone know what's available and we can vote on selections.
But right now I need numbers......so let's update this attendee list!!!
Thanks guys!

I am not sure I want to pay $30 to watch Illuminations. I am a cheapskate with certain things. If know me or you've read my reports you know I am the "rarely eats out mostly cooks in the room" kinda gal. Besides the savings, I am not nuts about WDW food. I know I am not eating $30 worth of dessert, and I'm not really a big fan of desserts. Still, I'd hate to miss everyone. Decisions, decisions.....Let me think about it, put me on the Maybe list if we do the dessert thing.

I hear what you are saying Mar'. I am sure I won't eat $30 worth of dessert either. Well, let me re frame that, I am sure I will eat it, but don't need to, LOL. On the other hand, I have always wanted to do the private Illuminations viewing. I can't imagine a better group of people to experience this with.

So, really I could go either way. I will be excited to do the dessert party, and I will be excited just to experience Illuminations with a great group of friends for free.

I'll let everyone decide, I'm game for whatever is decided on.

Yes, I do hear you, too, Mar. I guess the real advantage (other than really yummy desserts) is the GUARANTEE that we'll be able to hang together. I have seen how some people get real nasty when you're trying to hold a viewing spot open for someone who's not quite made it there yet.
Again, there might be a menu that can get us this great spot for less than $30. We'll just have to see what info I receive.
And believe me when I say I'm fine with either way.......grabbing a spot, or reserving a spot.
Keep your fingers crossed!!

No. last time I did this it was to the right of Rose and Crown, though I'm sure it will depend on what's already booked, how many people we'll have in our party, etc. So, come on everyone!!! If you're thinking about joining in on the Illuminations fun, now is the time to let me know!!!!

Okay, all my MO friends, here's the info that was given to me by Kristi, who is the convention service manager at the Boardwalk.
There are two locations available to us for the private viewing of Illuminations on December 3.
LOCATION 1---United Kingdom Terrace, which is the spot of spoke of, to the right of Rose and Crown. At a cost of $250 to rent the location (so $10 per person if we're at 25, or less as more people decide to join us). This place can hold up to 50 people and we do have to guarantee at least 20 people.
LOCATION 2--East Oasis in front of Morocca. Holds 30 people at a cost of $100($4.00 person if we're at 25). Smaller location but the price is definitely more doable.
DESSERT MENUS AVAILABLE:
"FOR THE CHILD IN YOU"
Florida Lemon Bars
Double Chocolate Brownies
Large Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Oatmeal Raisin Cookes
Chewy Rise Crispy Treats
Chocolate Penaut Butter Marshmallow Square
Coffee, decaf coffee, tea, fruit punch
$19.50 per person, 20 guest minimum

"OLD WORLD CLASSIC IN MINIATURE"
Pastries in miniature to include:
Chocolate and pistachio cannoli
Fresh fruit tartlets
Vanilla cream filled pastry horns
chocolate eclairs
Rasberry and cream roulade
Oreo Cookie cheesecade
Chocolate Pecan Pies
Coffee, decaf coffee, tea, fruit punch
$24.50 per person, 20 guest minimum

Okay, so there you have it. We've already reached the 20 guest minimum. Now we really need to decide if (and then where) we want our viewing to take place, then what we want to eat.
PLEASE, PLEASE help me on this one. I need everyone's opinion out there.

I vote for the wine and cheese plate!

Just kidding, but it would be nice for those of us who don't really like dessert to have an option. Any chance that they could 'substitute' a plate of cheeses and fruits' for a couple of the sweet thingiess??? I remember that they treated you really good at the GG event re non sweet desserts.

I'm not going to vote cuz I might have to be one of the last minute 'add ons' and decide between desserts and Jellys if they are the same night. Looks like a really fun time though!

No, they won't allow us to substitute cheese and fruit platters.......trust me, turst me, the cheese and fruit platters are there, but EVERYTHING else is an add-on and would have to be ordered for all and not just one.
Yes, I was treated EXTREMELY well last April. No cheese, but a LOT of fruit (I happen to be diabetic and have a hard time with a lot of sweets). So they do work with any dietary needs. Everyone, please let me know if there are any dietary concerns we'll be dealing with.
And yes, Illuminations will then be followed by Jellyrolls that night!!! Can't wait!!! This will be so much fun.
I'll start a running list of dessert choices and viewing choices so we can make a decision soon. I think, more importantly, will be the choice for viewing, since AT THIS TIME, they're both open, but Kristie said they book up real fast.
So let me know what you think, guys!!

I vote for Old World too. Don't know how the viewing is from either location, so I can't really vote based on that, but I like the idea of the larger area so we can add more people if we get more mouseowners deciding to go with us for the meet a little later. One question though, is the cost a straight per person charge or do they reduce the cost for young children? Our DD1 isn't going to make a big dent in the food.

Brian, first glad to see you're still on board.
Good question about cost for younger children. I will definitely ask that question when I get my return call from Kristi. If they don't make allowance, I think it only fair that we don't charge at all for the wee little ones, Brian.

Kathy, once we have the EXACT number of MO's coming to the viewing, we'll price out the cost (deposit cost divided by number of attendees, adding to that cost of desserts) and I think I'll have everyone send me a check. I'll initially put it on my credit card, which I'm sure will be necessary in order to secure our spot, date and time.
Does this sound fair to everyone involved so far? Or can you think of a better way to handle this?

Yeah, I couldn't figure out where Kristi was talking about either, but her description to me was "Do you know where Mo Rockin" play? It directly behind there." So if you get to WDW before I do, please take a picture as I'm dying to see the view, too. But it does look like everyone's willing to pay more money to view from UK. Which I know where the water wheel is and know where the band plays.

But where the heck you stand to watch it is beyond me. Of course, it does not have to be that big if it only holds 25 people.

We will be there Sept 30 for a week with my sister. Will be sure to check it out.

Wow, September must be the month of "sisters". I'll be there with mine Sept 16-21. I'm going to check out the area, too. I've decided that I definitely vote for the UK viewing area. If I'm right on where it is, I remember all the times I've walked by there, looked down (isn't it down on a peninsula type thing?) and wondered "Who are those lucky people down there? I wish I could sneak in and pretend I was with them." I just think it would be so neat to actually get to be down there. I don't remember the Morocco area. As far as what dessert, I love all desserts. Can we get both? In other words, I'll enjoy either, but I think I prefer (just slightly) the one with the cannolis (Old World Miniatures?) Let me know when you need help-a taste test perhaps?

Good question, Kimberly. When I spoke to Kristi, she suggested we start the party at 8 or 8:30. At that time, I was under the assumption that Illuminations was at 9. TGM just released dates/times, and he's showing a 9:30 start. So now I'm thinking 8:30 should do the trick.

I'm waiting for my phone call to get all the educated answers to these questions. I'll post when I get the info.
I do see that Illuminations is at 9:30 that night so I'll definitely find out what works best for us, and what gets us the most for our money.

Mr. Viking, it looks as if every one prefers United Kingdom, so the viewing area is directly to the right of R & C. And yes, they set up right at the viewing area, desserts and drinks. Another good reason for that location is that you're steps away from the pub, for those who want something a little stronger than coffee/tea. Or for those who want to get a head start on us MO's that will be heading to Jellyrolls after!!!!

Now I understand that pm you sent me, although I thought I directed you to the right post even though I wasn't clear on what you were asking. Just to clarify: There are two possible locations (UK or Morroco and at this point it looks overwhelmingly like UK is the winner) and either dessert choice was available at each location.

There is no "post #60" on that thread.

I already get in enough trouble with the Mods. Commenting on a Mods cleavage could be considered suicidal.

MouseOwners newbie checking in here...I found MO from the DIS and I recognize a few names from the DVC boards over there.

I am DEFINITELY interested in having my family at this Illuminations Dessert Party as we are at BCV 11/30-12/8. I'm awaiting a call from DH to make sure he's on board and if so it would be a total of 4 of us with my DS12 and DD11, if you still have room!

I'm cool with either dessert option, but it sounds like the Old World menu is winning out. It also sounds like the R&C location is preferable, but I tell you that I think the Morocco location is probably pretty good, too.

I'll post again as soon as I have a yay or nay!

Well, everyone, Christie finally called me with ALL the info needed for our own private MO's Illuminations Viewing and Dessert Party. Here's the scoop:

Party to begin at 8:45 (which means you should arrive no later than 8:30---we will have our own greeter who will make sure everyone gets a wristband which is the ONLY way you will be allowed to enter this exclusive party!). Desserts, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit punch and water (not bottled LOL) will be waiting for us. We can stuff ourselves until 9:45 and then whatever is left, we need to grab cuz they will throw away anything left.
The view location is PHENOMENAL!!! Actually, this isn't the area that I thought it would be---it's 10x's better!!!!. We will have tables and chairs for everyone and Christie informed that there is NO BETTER VIEW of Illuminations anywhere!!!
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z165/matypants/UKUpper2.jpg
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z165/matypants/UKUpper1.jpg
(Hope I did this right!)
Okay, so now you see where we'll be partying and viewing. Here's the details on the prices:
The total cost for this venue (or location) with tax is $266.25, which we will divide evenly between the number of guest attending, which BTW HAS to be at least 20.
Right now we're at 33 adults and 2 children (3 and under are free---everyone else is considered adult).
Then the cost, with tax and everything for the desserts is:
Child in You (cookies and such)
$19.50
total $24.92 w/ taxes
Old World Classics in Miniatures
$24.50
$31.31 w/ taxes
So my next question is, do we still want to stay with OWCIM or should we do the switch to CIY. It's all up to you guys!!!
We don't have to let Christie know which desserts we DEFINITELY want until it get a little closer, but I DID have to guarantee that we want the space. We have a 40 person capacity, so once we reach that mark, we have to close the event. So if any of you are travelling with extended family, please invite them to join us. I'll keep a running track of exactly how many people will be attending.

I hope this answers everyone's questions. If not, feel free to ask away and I'll find out the answers.
This should be awesome

Note to self-remember the ziploc bags to fill at 9:45! OMG-my tired tootsies can sit during Illuminations (even though I can't see myself doing that). Great job, Pam. You know, I've noticed the absence of KVIKING (is that how his name's spelled?) on any event lists. I hope that's just that he hasn't noticed to sign up yet. I'm still cool with miniatures, but I'm find with the Child in You as well if people want to keep costs down.

One further question...exactly where is the entrance to this location then? Is the entrance closer to Rose & Crown? Closer to the bridge between UK and France? Just trying to get a better idea where to report to on December 3!

Thanks!

Yes, the arrangements are all set. I'm just waiting for Christie to send me the contract to sign. The date, time and location is all ours. Because we HAd to guarantee 20, we're way above that number now (your family makes 33). So we only have 7 more spots to fill and we will be at maximum.
I haven't committed to the dessert choice, only because I wanted to wait to hear everyone's thoughts. But since everyone seems okay with the Old Country Miniatures ( and no, Viking, that's not the group of servers!), it appears that will be the dessert choice.
This will be a great opportunity to view Illuminations and meet some great MO's!

I know what the second oldest profession is, not sure about the second oldest lie. But it might be "the check is in the mail".
I know, I know but I think everyone here is pretty honest and upfront.:goodvibes :goodvibes and maybe I'm a little naive, but I do believe everyone will send their checks (AND they won't bounce:bouncingp )!!!

Don't worry, Mar. I'm sure your check will be arriving in the mail in the next day or two. Maybe there'll be a Mark sighting, too, and then all your troubles will be over!!!!

Oh, oh-I'm starting to get a little nervous here. I probably shouldn't though-this part of Texas is more like being in Mexico, making it an international journey for our mail up to the Chicago area. I hope you get my check soon-I did mail it on the way to my mammogram on Tuesday.

Don't worry just yet, Dorothy. Between YOUR postal service and CHICAGO's, let's hope it gets here before December. I promise I'll let you know as soon as the check arrives.

Hey all! I am not sure if this was mentioned somewhere in this thread, but here's some info from allears about Illuminations during the month of December:
"And as an extra festive bonus, "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth," the nighttime spectacular featuring fireworks, water and lasers, will have a touch of holiday magic added to its finale."

I had known this but forgot all about it. So woohoo we'll be seeing an extra-special version of Illuminations together. :woohoodan

Hey, I think they'll be using that kleenex to wipe their eyes and THEN to carry all their extra desserts over to Jellyrolls. I can see the dessert table we'll have over at Jellyrolls. Booze, drinks and (if you get lucky, Viking) cleavage. Gosh, what more could a Viking want!!!!!

I'm with you, Laura. I can never figure out WHY I get so blubbery, but it happens. Compound in with great friends AND the holiday theming (which I have seen and it's awesome), I tend to think there'll be a bunch of us blubberers!!!
