Dinner at Chef Mickey

We've got the Whispering Canyon Breakfast going (yay Rita!), does anyone had an interest in doing a group dinner? I'll be the coordinator, My first thought was Chef Mickey for Dinner. Imagine the photo ops! I'll update the list in this post as more folks sign on.

The dinner is going to take place at 5PM on Wednesday 12/5. Please plan to arrive at the restaurant by 4:30 so we can all gather together and be ready to be seated by 5. They will NOT seat us unless the entire party is there, so please try to be on time and please let me know if you can't make it. :)

Hubby and I are both going on the trip but he is getting a gastric bypass done next month. So it would be a lot of money spent on food he won't be able to eat anyway.

I wanted to wait until Ghost1000 aka Rita got the definite date for the hay ride and until Maytsgranma aka Pam nailed down a the date for the wishes fireworks cruise, as those may be less flexible than the dinner.

Good suggestion regarding the drinkathon/MVMCP (or at least one of those) to be on the same night as Chef M, thanks Rita. We still don't have anyone volunteering to coordinate the MVMCP meet. I won't be attending that, or I'd step up. Hopefully someone will eventually decide to take charge of that event.

They DID have availability on the 5th, so I booked it. I hope we get the 4th when I call Friday, but I would like some opinions on what to do if they don't.

If I can't get the 4th on Friday should we:
Tweak our schedule and go on the 5th OR
Make individual ressies OR
Make a few "large" ressies, 5 ressies of 10 each?

Any ideas/suggestions/opinions appreciated!

LOL regrading the cm's reaction Laura. There is a special # for group dining, so they didn't blink at the number.

If we keep the ressie it will probably work out fine for the 5th. We have Osbourne Lights and the TOT meet scheduled on the 5th, both of which we can be flexible with times for. Chef Mickey is 5, so we should be able to get to MGM to view the lights and ride TOT after the dinner. MGM is scheduled to close at 8PM, so it might be tight, and we might have to choose between seeing the lights or doing the ride if time gets short.

Please keep the thoughts coming everyone! Hopefully we will get what we want when I call on Thursday, but if not I'd like to work out a back up plan.

Either works for me. Glad you got a ressie for the 5th, cuz I think it is easier to change one than get one outright. Talking to the manager is a great idea..maybe give John a call and see if he has any 'ins' at Chef Mickeys (he was able to get us into both CG and Jiko at a mo's notice). It comes down to which day the manager thinks it would be better for the restaurant to handle such a big group.

It left me wondering: how many COULD she have done a ressie for on Tuesday? 43? 30? 25?

Hoping Stimparoo gets to go...what with taking over the restaurant and getting all those characters pretty much to ourselves, this is going to be special.

If it's not possible to switch, I'm wondering if we might 'do' the Osborne lights/TOT first and then head over to Chef Mickeys @ 8:00 or is that too late for everyone? I'd hate to have to rush through dinner and even with two people it usually takes 2 hours...so MGM might be a toughie.

OKay I got a call back from the manager at the contemporary. He enlightened me about a couple of things I didn't know. First, they only do large groups at 5PM or after 9PM. The reason is that it's easy to get large groups to sit next to each other (there is no such thing as a table for 45) at 5 when they open for Dinner, or after 9 when the place has mostly cleared out.

I also asked the manager if what the CM from Group Dining ressies told me on the phone was true--that more ressies would open up at the 180 mark. He checked the schedule and said no, the place was bascially booked solild that night (maybe with folks going to MVMCP after? I don't know the reason, just a hunch).

So we cannot make it 8PM as CB suggested. It's either Wednesday at 5 or nothing. I'm sorry Stimpy is going to miss this, but I don't see any other way around it. I did say "so if we booked, say 9 tables of 5 each on Tuesday would that work?" and he said no, as it would be impossible for us to be near one another without it being organized in advance as a group dining.

So, I am leaving it for Wednesday 12/5 at 5PM. I am keeping the osborne light meet up on that same night. I hope no one has to cancel either event but if you do please let me know. They won't seat us at Chef M until the whole group is there, so if you can't make it it's really important that you tell me in advance.

Excellent point about Osbourne staying open past park closing. I know it's sort of late to park hop, I hope most folks are still able to make it to MGM after dinner.

Roz I think we decided that we would still do the Osborne lights, as CB pointed out that once you are in the park you can stay as long as you want to look at the display. Even though MGM will close at 8, we can linger until we want to leave. There should be plenty of time to make it to MGM way before 8PM. Yeeha can you imagine 40 of us on one bus from the contemp to MGM?

I think as far as TOT we will have to play it by ear and see exactly what time we get to MGM and how long the line is at TOT. But if you have a better idea please share! :)

Take a look at the calendar of events so far thread, it's a sticky here. You could conceivably switch the drinkathon and start out on the Epcot monorail after the segway/soarin/lunch. You and CB to work out what you'd like to do, and let us know what you decide so Stimparoo or I can fix it on the Schedule page. :handshake

Oh that sounds good. We can start early at lunch, and make our way over to the Monorail resorts. I'll ask the group what they think. Good idea, I am so glad we are planning this far in advance. I am sure we will hit other speedbumps, but it will all work out! :)

LOL me either but my orthopedic surgeon is away in Europe someplace helping at a clinic with others so he won't be back till the end of Sept so I am on the table with him Oct 2nd for another knee operation.

Hi! I just got back from a week in the Grand Tetons (still waiting for my last suitcase to arrive), so I've been out of touch on this. I suppose it will help when I get time to read all through this last week. The time has been changed to Wednesday at 5:00, meet at 4:30. Is that right? Do we have to do anything to reserve now or has that been taken care of? Whichever, I don't see any problems with this change. Looking forward to it!

We saw very few new birds, the disappointing part of the trip for me. Unfortunately, we kept seeing lots of Robins, not "exciting" to me.
I got the suitcase today. It was my laundry suitcase, so I didn't really want it because I had to do laundry all morning.
Do we need to do anything to confirm for Chef Mickey's now? Or do we just show up on Wednesday, December 5, in our best party attire?

Chef M is all taken care of, it's reserved and you are included. All you have to do is be there at 4:30 outside the restaurant to meet up with everyone. :howudoin:

An FYI: I just read "elsewhere" that the cost of Chef Mickey's has gone up. I don't know if this effects anyone's plans. As long as it's still 1 TS credit, I'm all set!

They won't seat us until we are all there, so if you can't make it please let me know in advance so I can notify Disney to adjust the number on our ressie. If I don't hear otherwise I will assume everyone who is on the list in the first post of this thread will be there.
