timeframe. Hubby says he is comitted to running the 1/2 and son says he is going to train with him, and since he has asked me twice if I have booked the room yet, I thought I better get on the stick. I have Thursday thru Sunday booked, as that seemed to span the timeframe of the major events.

Hubby has bought son the iPod, the 1/2 marathon book, running shoes and Under Armour shirts to get started. This running thing is going to get expensive once you throw in a trip to WDW. I am glad hubby is so gung ho on this. I think he is a bit scared, but I think this is a pretty big commitment, so he has a right to be.

rotfl! Running is NOT the free sport it's reported to be! Just wait until he wants a Garmin (wrist GPS).

Our original design fro the back of the WISH shirts last year was:

Illegal MP3 Player: $75
Shoes: $90
Garmin: $125

Mickey/donald Medal...Priceless!

SOunds liek your dh is startign with the right hear, though! I made my ressies yesterday from Friday to Friday!

I guess I had better get going and make ressies too! I'm not as thrilled right now as it looks like I might have another surgery recuperation before I get to train in earnest...

My right knee appears to be injured and I won't know for sure until I have an
MRI :(

Oh no Lisa!!!!! I hope your knee is ok!!!! You could use an injury-free year!

BTW, I heard DVCs fill up fast, but I bet you'd be ok up to the 7 mo mark. (not hat I'd be my vacation on it. ;) )

I really do plan to be there regardless  I am just annoyed at the pain in my right knee!! Not sure about where to stay...I remember that being at BWV and BCV is more convenient but DH loves OKW so much and I also would like to stay at SSR possibly since this might be a couple only trip :sunny:

Good luck with the knee!! DW has her appointment coming up to look at what she may have done while training for the half.

I had no trouble at all last year with BWV at the 7 month window. There was plenty of availability at BCV as well. I want to say studios may have been not available for some of the nights, but 1BR were wide open. Not sure if being a weekend later will make a difference.

We made our Goofy reservations at BWV for 1/9-1/21/08.

Airline reservations are next week.

See you there:)

Do you guys have any preference as to where to stay when you go for the marathon. Right now we are at SSR, as that is where I could book without having to borrow points. I am thinking about changing to AKV when those ressies open up to us non-owners, but I was wondering if there is any reason for a location preference? This will be our first time to go for this, so I am just not sure what to expect.

I was fine at SSR in 06. BCV was fine in 07, although the buses made a ton of other stops for BCV. SSR was just SSR and OKW.

The only prefernce I've heard is monorail hotel or POR. SOme people walk to teh start from POR. Not my cup of tea and I think you miss alot of atmoshpere, but you get to sleep later.

Btwn AKV and SSR, the only thing is that the bus ride will be longer, as teh start is just outside Epcot.

we normally have a rental car, and expect we will this trip, too. You can drive over to the start, right? or would you have to take the busses, no cars allowed?

You can. The packet you get in October will tell you when you should arrive by and such. Personally, I woudl just take teh buses, as they are so close to the finish area. I've only had a car on prperty once, though.

We don't know how to function without a car. :ROTFL: Hubby prefers to have a car, and I do too, as long as he doesn't mind paying for one.

We stayed at OKW last year with intentions of walking to the start. At the last minute, we decided to take the busses, and I wouldn't do it any other way. As Carrie said, the morning busses are part of the experience, and it was pretty cool to have all of these people collecting at the resort bus stops in the dark. Everyone was pretty quiet, but there was still some connection as everyone was apprehensive to some degree. If you're going to take a bus, it really doesn't matter which resort you choose.

We decided to stay at SSR this year for the marathon. We loved going to Paradise Island for the Sunday evening event. We didn't go to the award ceremonies (as I didn't really care who won) but it was really neat to see everyone walking around Paradise Island with their medals around their necks, holding a beer or a drink, and having a good time. It seemed like a perfect way to wrap up the event. We would have loved to have been able to walk back to our room at SSR instead of catching a bus back to OKW at the end of the night, and at that moment, we decided that it was gonna be SSR this next time.

We presently are booked at SSR and I was thinking about moving, because you do know that the grass is always greener............ :ROTFL:

Now that SSR has grown, that could be quite a walk to your villa at SSR, but after that run, guess it wouldn't seem like much.

I wonder if there is a walkway fron the GrandStand area to the West End of the Marketplace?

We walked when we stayed in teh Paddock after teh 06 marathon. WHile walking was not easy, we'd still prefer it. I don't know of an easay way to west end, though.

I'm still torn about wher eto stay this year now that I think about the buses. For BCV, we stopped at Swan, Dolphin and BWV. That seemed to take forever. We love to walk to MGM and Epcot, but we also love endig our day at DtD. It seemed so much harder to get to from BCV. So, I have my SSR ressies, but torn about staying there or BWV. We had our honeymoon at BWI, so that's kind of special too. Oh, the decisions. ;)

I will have spectators for the first time in '08! Is one DVC better than another for family to meet me at the finish? We would all probably take the bus vs. a car.

I personally like BWV as when finished with the 1/2 & Full(Goofy), we just walked back from the finish line to our room. A good half way rest stop is the Rose and Crown for some liquid carb reloading:thumbsup:

A car would be good if the weather was bad and it would give you a place to stay warm and dry.

Do you have to walk back through Epcot if you're at BWV? I don't usually carry my park tickets w/ me when I'm running. Can you walk back from the finish line?
