I have another question. I am renting points to stay at OKW. We are planning on doing the MNSSHP and the Family Magic Tour. I read on here that renters can usually get the same perks as owners because thier cards say mamber on them. Is that true. What if we order them in advance will we need a member ID #. If we could get the owner to book them will it be okay? Can you do that?

Fatdawg - :welcome: to Mouseowners!

I pulled your question out of the previous thread because it raises different points, and this will give it greater visibility. Good question - I don't know the answer, unfortunately, though others will!

I believe the owner that is renting their points to you can purchase tickets, tours etc for you in advance, same as if I were to buy for family members travelling with me on a trip. I don't think you'd be able to buy tours/tickets yourself during your trip, as most of those things need you to show an actual DVC member card.

In strict terms, you are the "personal guest" of the owner who rented you their points...

No, the owner cannot purchase MSSSHP/MVMCP/Pirate & Princess party tickets for renters or guests unles he/she plans to be in WDW to pick them up. The only option to buy in advance with the member discount is to use the will-call option. You need to show your blue membership card to pick them up.

There were a few party tickets that got by MS last year (were mailed), but they soon got their act together. I actually got a call to give me a confirmation number to pick up at will call even though I had asked to have them mailed.

It's best if renters do not plan on using any member-only perks - many establishments are now asking to see the blue member card before granting any discounts.

That said, the member may be able to get discounted tour reservations for someone else. However, IIRC, those are paid in advance by credit card. Not sure how many owners would be willing to do that or how many renters would want to take a chance that the owner cancels the reservation on them (don't believe anyone would actually do that, but you can't be 100% sure, either).

To be honest, for any extended stay at Disney (7-10 days or more) or if there will be multiple visits in 12 months, if you want DVC style discounts, it might be worth your while to just buy an AP. Often, the discounts are similar (for party nights and such), and you get other perks, such as purchasing the Disney Dinining Experience card for $60 which gives 20% off most table service meals (including alcoholic beverages). For a family of 4, that perk alone could give you significant savings. Only one member needs to have the AP, so the rest of the family members can use the appropriate MYW tickets for the trip.

It might be worth comparing options. As Carol noted, for most DVC discount perks, a member has to make the non-refundable purchase in advance (party tickets, say) which I'm not sure most members would be comfortable doing. For the onsite discounts, they've gotten pretty consistent about asking for the blue member card.

Your Mileage May Very . . .
