Well, as most of you know I am a lifetime member of WW after having lost 75 pounds!!!!
In my endeavor to quit smoking (which I think I finally have for good!!!!!!) I gained back 16.5 pounds:tearsaref :headbrick
So I headed back to WW to rejoin and try to kick this before I'm way out of control..So I will be going back every week for weigh ins...It's what I need..And I am exercising just about every day again, so I feel pretty good...Oh well, I guess it could've been a lot worse than 16.5, but that's bad enough:mad:
Thanks for letting me share....Even if no one reads this thread I may post how I've done on my weigh-ins just cause it may feel theraputic for me.

Athenna you rock!

I admire your stick-to-it-ness.

The guy in the next cubicle is trying to quit smoking and has joined WW. He's just 35 and this blood pressure is through the roof. I'll use you as an example to him if you don't mind as I we all give him good sound encouragement every day.

You are a inspiration to me, and I am so needing to sign back up. I've put on 20 lbs since WW. I can't stand to see myself in pictures. I'll be keeping up with your progress, soon to be success.

Good for you for re-jioning! 16.5 is really not bad, but I'm glad you are able to xconcentrate on weight again. That means the smoking thing must be licked for good. Way to go!!!!!!!!!!

I am thrilled for you, Athenna! Most people gaining weight back don't have such an important excuse for having it happen!!! Way to go, girl! I am pretty frightened of maintenance myself; isn;t it harder than actual weight loss!?

I, personally, have found maintenance for me to be a lot harder than actual weoght loss...But that is just me..Would I have found it as hard if I didn't quit smoking? Who knows...With maintenance , you have to be as focused as when we are still losing...Still have to count our points (or whatever program one follows), exercise..And can't use maintenance as an excuse-''oh, I can slack of all week, I don't need to lose any more weight''...If that week turns to 2 weeks, etc...It's a snowball effect..

Athenna, good for you. I did WW in 05' and lost 42 lbs. I didn't handle the maintenance too well, and now 35 of it has found it's way back to my bod.:holymoly: I keep trying everyday to start over, but I'm not doing a very good job. I signed up for Curves last Sept. and went for about 3 months, but I wasn't dieting while I went. I started back to curves yesterday and now I've got to get serious about my weightloss again. I did WW online the first time, so it was pretty much all self discipline. I looked at our local meeting schedule and there just isn't a doable time for me. Anyway, I'm super proud of you, and hopefully you can inspire us all.

No I haven't. Don't you have to do the protein shakes with that? Usually those are milk based and I'm lactose intolorent. Never could do the slim fast thing either.

I'll have to cjeck my powder. I know I tend to mix mine with soy milk (just a trying to be healthy preference) adn that they have soy protein in them, but do not kno wif they're milk based or not. I'm just looking fo rmilk on the igredients label?

(Don't mean to sound dumb, but a friend has a peanut allergy which means she also can have some soy.....)

That is incredible that you have quit smoking! I am an ex smoker (I quit six years ago) and it is a very difficult thing to do, especially the first year. Don't give up and don't give in! Quitting smoking is probably the VERY BEST thing you can do for your family, not to mention yourself!
Did you know that smoking raises your metabolism by about 15%? Here's the good news, and this is what worked for me...strength training (working out with weights, small is fine!) will also raise your metabolism by 15%! SO swap one for the other and you will be much better off!
You should be SO PROUD of yourself, you have done something not many people can do!!!!

Thanks a bunch, Michelle:grouphug:
yeah, I am pysched I quit smoking, but that was harder than losing weight I think...1st I tried the Nicorette gum, and I couldn't stand it any more, and I'd cheat a lot!!!! Then I tried the patch, and that worked great only it gave me major headaches and it just wasn't worth the suffering.....I have actually been more successful cold turkey than with any assistance...I 1st tried to quit a year ago (I can't believe it's been that long) but I kept going back and forth...My last cig was Christmas day. 42 days and counting..LOL

Great job on quitting smoking! I am with you on the weigh-ins if that's ok?

My husband and I have both gained a TON of weight since we got together almost 4 years ago. I lost some of it for the wedding in '05, but I am 55-65 lbs overweight, at 31. It affects my life a lot more than I want... I basically feel bad about myself a lot.

We restarted a diet and exercise program on Monday. 1200-1500 calories and workout 3-5 times a week. I am starting my workouts as all cardio (30 min on the darn dirty elliptical trainer), and will add weights starting next week. What I really need is this: :tapedshut

Gaining weight is so easy... losing weight is so hard. :(

We can support each other!!!!!
Your diet & exercise program sounds good. I do about 30 min day also...It really is a lot depending on what type of exercise it is, it's really amazing....I do a lot of pilates, and sometimes after 30 min I am dripping with sweat! But I do allow myself 1 day a week to not workout, if I don't want...But only if I've been good food wise.
Tonight I am going to a WW meeting, as it is the leader I have been going to since the beginning...But I like to weigh in first thing in the am, so I am going to run in Fri morning and get weighed in...I will be sure to post when I get back, no matter the results.
Hugs again!

I am on a team at Sparkpeople.com that has at least 4 ladies that do WW meetings once a week and 3 more ladies that do TOPS once a week. They like doing both because of the greater amount of support. I have never tried a local meeting of anything but I will say that tracking my food at Sparkpeople and using their free site with all its great tools has been so effective for me!!

I have lost 36 pounds so far. As I said earlier, I will consider it a true success when I can look back in time and say I finally figured out how to maintain my weight :loveisint If anyone wants to check out SP and maybe join, my username there is withspirit...February is heart month and I am trying to get the word out about Sparkpeople.

Another good choice for a smoothie for those with lactose intolerance is to combine it with plain yogurt. You get great calcium and it is easy on the tummy, not to mention those probiotics :blueflowe

Well, I lost 1.2
I know I shoudn't complain about it, I am happy with that. I would've liked a bigger loss as I really worked so dang hard this week. But I'll take a loss whenever I can get it.
1st goal may not be acheived per the timeline I had set up. I wanted to lose 6.6 before next trip....Can't lose 5.4 in 23 days...But I am ok with that....
I wanted to lose the entire 16.6 that I gained before my friend's wedding in April....Don't want to have to go buy a dress in a bigger size...So I've got 15.4 left on that.
That goal I should be able to achieve (hopefully).

Well, I am keeping tabs on you too, Athenna!! WTG on the weight loss! If you keep at it, you know it will come off. Some weeks are only a half pound for me, then others 2-3 all at once! Generally speaking, I eat a similar calorie count at least 90-95% of the time, so your body gives it up when it is ready and it will give it up because you are making the right choices:grouphug: :cheerlead

Hey, any loss is still a loss!! Anyhow, I bet your hard work from this week will show up next week.

I had a very good week myself. Managed to get my lazy butt to the gym 4 days out of 5 (Thurs I worked 11 hrs and just didn't have the time), and did 30-35 min on that darn dirty elliptical each time. I also kept between 1200-1500 calories every day. Today I splurged a bit on sushi and a beer for dinner, but had a light lunch.

I weighed on Wednesday, sigh. This is that mean girl week (feel your pain athenna!) where I automatically gain 5 lbs, but I am going to take this as my start weight.

I would like to lose 65 lbs. I was hoping to lose enough by March 12th to pass my goals for my work "wellness" program, but 30 lbs in a month isn't, and shouldn't happen. :boohoohoo

Hi -- I just wanted to add my support to Athenna and Kat and Carrie and Lisa!! WTG!! :jumpingbe

I, too, am trying to lose weight. I gained 35 pounds since last June, primarily due to lots of travel; moving and eating out a lot; the holidays; and some new medications I'm on for my hand pain.

Unfortunately, I had to stop exercising because I have a neuroma (benign tumor on the nerve) on the bottom of my right foot; even walking hurts. (I'm supposed to get cortisone shots this week; hopefully that will do the trick.)

At any rate, I have lost 9 pounds so far.

If you don't mind, I'll continue to post here to keep myself honest. Thanks.

Wow, Kim! That is great that you have lost weight...9 pounds is a lot with all those challenges!!

I know what you mean, Carrie! Whenever I feel sorry for myself, this little comfort eating voice pipes up and says, "you deserve an extra snack, Lisa" (or) "it won't hurt you to have that extra dessert"... I tell you, I really have to be vigilant to keep from fulfilling those desires.

Basically, if it won't fit into my calorie range I won't eat it!!

I am all about the "I've had a bad day: I deserve Outback" or some similar restaurant-type eating.

And of course, once I get there, I find myself thinking, "Well, might as well go for the Bloomin' Onion *and* dessert, since this day is a whole waste anyway...." And I have to be really good about not doing this on the weekends, since that will ruin an entire weekend. (Shrinks call this the "Abstinence Violation Effect.") Sigh.

I am queen of emotional eating. I also do that "well since I had a cookie, I might as well eat and drink everything in sight for the rest of the day" thing.

Right now I seem to have a nasty intestinal bug that prevents me from eating without repercussions. I am at least not nauseous. Although I am quite irritated and annoyed by it, perhaps it will result in weight loss? :Paranoid:

You're right, Kim. As long as you've decided that the day will be a loss fro good eating, you just head down a very slippery slope.

I need to get to where I am good year round. the last 2 years, I have looked at my weight in October/November, been highly upset with myself, got on teh ball and lost several pounds by January. I do not want to go that route again!

OK, we can stay strong. Being accoutable to each other helps a lot! Let's do it!

Been there, done that, got the Tshirt. I swear, this is totally me. I always think I either "deserve" it, or "I've blown it, WTH".

The big thing with me is if I ever use the "diet" word, I am set to fail. If I can get away from that, than I can find a way. Deprieve myself of something, and I will crave it day and night! :upsidedow

OK, I had a sort of victory last night. Not of my own doing, but I'll take what I can get. :p

I ate my salad and dinner. Not a big potato person, so I skipped that, leaving room for dessert. My b-day, my anniv, New years and V-day I go somewhere really nice. Then, I feel justified in getting dessert. (Depriving myself too much leads to bad things. Kind of like the word diet to Rozzie)

So, I wait for our plates to be cleared and to get the dessert menu. It was over 20 minutes before our plates were cleard. A few more to get menus. By that time, I was too ful for dessert. :( WHile I was bummed last night, it really was a good thing. Not havign dessert last night doe snot make me more or less hungry today. Desert is 5 minutes of pleasure. So I missed that 5 minutes. No lasting effects. So, I should than the waitress for her poor service. ;) (Then again, her tip would have been better if we had dessert.)

However, that gives me a positive note to start today right!

I weighed in this morning and I am down 4 more lbs. That is 8 since last week, and 4 since Monday.

Now, this whole week I have had some sort of stomach virus and been unable to eat much more than some ginger ale, soup, and dry bread. I wouldn't recommend this approach as a form of weight loss, as it not been very pleasant, but hey, at least I am down a bit! I have tried to consume at least 1200 calories each day, but (tmi alert) not sure how much actually "took".

I imagine that I will gain a lb or two back once I am able to eat again.

WTG, Carrie and Kat!!

I understand your disappointment, Carrie. The truth is, I probably would have eaten dessert, anyway. Even though it would have made me feel like :tonguetie afterward and I'd have had to unbutton and unzip my pants. Because I just love dessert that much. Sigh. I've been known to say to Eric, "I ate so much my back hurts." How bad is that?

Just in case anyone is interested, I do treat myself once a night, and that way I don't feel deprived. I treat myself with CocoaVia Chocolate Covered Almonds (140 calories, some protein along with the carbs and fat) or CocoaVia Blueberry Almond Chocolate Bars (taste like Cadbury Fruit and Nut bars, but with dark instead of milk chocolate; 90 calories). I buy them at Walgreens or order them online. The dark chocolate in these treats is rich and dense enough that my cravings are almost always fulfilled. And, since I love dessert sooooo much, it's a good way of treating myself every freaking night -- without ever feeling deprived. Just thought I'd throw that out there. It's all about portion control, and this is definitely portion control!!

WTG Kat! At least there is a bright side to these things. Try to keep the fluids up and you may not be as unpleasantly surprised when you're eating normal again.

Kim - That' s almost excatly what I do with the chocolate. Dh buys mye dark choc. for most holidays. If I allow myself a small amount, I don't feel the need to splurge as much. BTW, that's the first itme I've ever turned down dessert on a good restaurant occasion. I dont stuff myself too much, though, as it was ok in myfamily to take home a doggy bag and still have desert. :D

I probably would have eaten dessert too. Congrats on skipping!

Some of my fav splurges are light ice cream sandwiches (Breyers has a no sugar added that is 130 cals), fun size candy bars (80-90 cals each), butterfinger granola bars (110, I think).

My biggest problem is really alcohol. DH and I are drinkers, esp. , and that is the hardest vice for me to kick. I try to budget in the calories to have 1 or 2 light beers 3-4 times a week, which probably isn't my best use of calories but oh well, lushes have to have their fix somehow.

I do exactly the same thing every night, Kim!! I eat dark chocolate with my chocolate lovin' hubby :slyasafox We enjoy many kinds including Cocoa Via! We like Lindt Swiss Bittersweet, Perugina Dark, Ritter Sport Dark (are you out there, Bavaria?), Chocolove Organic 73% Dark, Chocolove cherries & almonds 65% Dark, Santander Dark...the list goes on and on. World Market has many of the kinds we love and even Target is a treasure trove sometimes :clappingh

Sips water...

athenna, congrats on the 1.2 lbs!! Every lb counts!

I am happily recovered now, thank goodness. I even made it back to the gym today. Darn dirty elliptical trainer is still there, meh.

So what is everyone's current diet/exercise strategy? Athenna, I know the diet part of yours is WW...

I am doing 1200-1500 calories for the diet portion. I try to fill up on veggies, and then have "treat" portions of certain meats, cheeses, and sweets. And of course, budgeting in for an occasional beer or glass of wine. I also try to drink two 32 oz bottles of water daily, and take a multi vitamin.

Excercise... at the moment trying for 30 min on the elliptical trainer M-F. I am thinking of adding weight training next week, and doing weighs MWF w/ 15 min on the elliptical, and Tues/Thurs, 45 min on the elliptical and no weights. When I get to a weight point that I can fit back into my hockey gear, I may replace Tues/Thurs with an hour practicing hockey at the rink near work.

I am lucky enough to have a gym 5 min from work, so I go on my lunch hour (and a half...). If I wait until after work, the call of the couch is just too strong.

Welcome Shan!! :howudoin:

I am a relative newbie... just joined in here a few weeks ago. So we can learn the ropes together!

120... I don't think my left leg weighs 120. Granted, I am 5'8" so 120 would be probably be a bit too thin for me.

My goal weight is 53 lbs from now. I have lost 8 so far. If I actually make my goal weight (ha!) I may try for 10 more, but I haven't weighed that little since I was about 23.

27 lbs sounds like a very reachable goal. Congrats on the first 3, I am sure you can make the rest!

Most important to my diet strategy is tracking my food which I do at Sparkpeople.com under the username: WITHSPIRIT (I know, another shameless plug :ROTFL: ). I keep my calories between 1200 and 1550 cals per day. I concentrate on a balanced diet of whole grains (with lots of fiber), protein, veggies, fruit and dairy. I try to drink 10-14 cups of water per day. I do not count other fluids in that total, like coffee or milk. I used to be a low carber and that did not really work for me in the long term. I still am careful with carbs but now I eat between 80-140 per day and I concentrate on having at least 30 grams of fiber too! I always make room for dark chocolate too:sunny:

I generally work out every day with Sunday being my light and gentle workout day. I do about 4-5 hours of cardio per week and 1-2 hours strengthening exercises. I have been on an exercise regimen for the last four years. I am so hoping to be able to participate in the Disney half marathon come next January :hyper:

I don't like to eat before I weigh in, but since I forgot I couldn't go at 7:30 this morning...I am trying to last until after my weigh-in to eat something...Last thing I had was popcorn last night about 6:30pm and I won't get to eat until about noon today...Ugh...Better be worth it...Hope everyone is doing well, and I will report back later!

Good luck with the weigh-in athenna!

I weighed yesterday and am down 11 lbs. from my first weigh-in on Feb 7th. 49 more to go!

I did pretty good this week, although not too well last weekend (maybe an extra  or two!). DH is working late tomorrow so that will help keep me on track. When we both have the day off together, things tend to go south.

Wow, you're doing wonderful, katk!:dancingba :dancingba :dancingba
Me, I am disappointent..I did well, stuck to my points...Didn't work out every night, but did well over all...And as I mentioned I didn't eat all morning during work or during work and I was starving...May have back fired...I was up a pound @ weigh-in and there is no way I ate that...Leader that weighed me said not eating for so long probably back fired on me as my body's metabolism wasn't burning anything..She said I should've had my morning coffee and something small like a granola bar....
So pretty much, it's taken me 3 weeks to lose 2.4 pounds...Ugh...I remember when I used to lose at least that each week!

Hang in there... I am pretty sure that those of us w/ lots to lose (raises hand) lose a LOT quicker at first.

I also had a non-fun virus to account for a few of mine!

Hang in there Athenna!

Some weeks just go that way. You may have a big loss next week! Our bodies just don't behave the way they are supposed to sometimes.

I had a five pound loss this week, but that was due to horrific stomach virus (going around I see) so I know I will gain some of that back.

Also wanted to say....have fun on your upcoming trip! :sunny:

Shan and Kat are so right, Athenna! It is true that you won't lose as quickly when there is not much there to lose and the human body is very quirky regarding weight loss!! I have been in a small plateau myself. It is either that or a hormonal problem stopping weight loss. It has happened several times during the last few months. I will stay within calorie range, do my exercise, drink lots of water and gain a pound instead of lose. It usually last for a few weeks and then BAM, I will start losing well again. I used to wonder if plateaus were real :Paranoid: or just a result of poor eating habits but now I believe they are legit :solikeiwa

Anyway, hang in there, I am right there with you!!

Thanks for the encouragement!!!!
I know that bodies are quirky sometimes...And when you've been on WW as long as I have, I'm not sure my body realizes it's dieting...I think my bod just thinks this is normal???
Shan-sorry you felt:sick: That's not a fun way to lose 5 pounds for sure.
Thanks WDS!!!
You guys are the best!!!
Haven't decided what day I am weighing in next week...I promised a friend I'd go for drinks & appetizers with him on Thurs, so I don't think I want to attempt to weigh in Fri..LOL...:margarita
But I've got to weigh in before I leave for WDW!!!!!

Well, I skipped my weigh-in this week:Pokepoke:
I just had a bad week , didn;t go over my points drastically, but I know I went over..Went out for drinks a couple more nights than usual, didn;t work out as much, so I was bad and skipped...Now most people would think I would skip next Fri weigh-in as I will be in WDW until Thurs night....But I actually want to weigh in after my trip...I am not crazy, I promise...One thing I love about staying at SSR is I love to walk in the mornings..So I want to see if there is a weight difference in when I go away w/others and going solo...I am booked for no resteraunts, doing CS everywherre, so I know I have the ability to eat healthy, and solo, I'll have less temptations...So I actually want to weigh in Fri, I think it will be better than todays would've been. How is everyone else doing this week?

Well, I have been plateaued for the last few weeks and I was thrilled this morning to actually see a lower number on the scale, woohoo!! I know now that you can do everything right and not lose weight!! Sometimes our bodies will respond with eating a couple hundred extra calories for a few days and then weight will be released. I have a feeling that now that I am really close to an optimal weight, I will have to be more patient

I hope you have a great and healthy WDW trip, Athenna! Maybe after a long walk though you can plan a small treat too :goodvibes

I weighed in this AM, even though I felt like I shouldn't (a bit too much wine last night). I am down another lb.

This is my 4th full week of dieting, 3rd weigh-in, and I am down 12 lbs. 48 to go for my target weight, about 30 or so as a mini-goal.

I have pretty much stuck to the diet the entire time, or at least stayed around 1200-1500 cals. I have made it to the gym 3 times a week. I would like to up the gym a bit but if I go every weekday I wind up really tired.

Lisa-WTG, you're doing great:clappingh Yup, you're getting close so it is time to be patient even though it is hard...Once you get close to the optimal weight, we lose it slower...At least that's been my experience.

Kat-Wow, awesome, you should be very proud of youraelf. We are proud of you:hug:

Wish me luck this week, I may need it.:lmbo:

Thanks!! (blush)

I was good today... we had a Macaroni Grill send-off to a departing co-worker. I printed out the nutritional info and had a 400 cal soup&caesar. My co-workers were all laughing at me but by the end were reading my sheet. :)

I did miss the gym at lunch tho. I might try to sneak a bit in before I head home today, but that will depend on how late my boss stays. ;)

WTG Lisa & Kat!

:( There's a reason I've been staying away. My job situation has put me in a major funk. Watchign what I ate did not improve my mood. Then again, neither has my eight gain. :headache: I've been better this week, but really need to get in in gear.

Hi, I have been reading your thread and find it quite intresting...Keep up the good work. I have recently begun counting points too. I also work out at least 3 days per week. I was weighed last week and lost 3.5 lbs. But I need to work harder since all day long I sit at a desk. But I have this one problem I like food alot.

I know that job induced funks can be the worst, Carrie!! The only thing I can suggest is that while you are watching your intake, make room for comfort food or maybe a piece of dark chocolate at both lunch and dinner. If you allocate the calories for it, you will feel zero guilt and it will brighten your mood. That can be empowering, believe me and you deserve it!!!!

An example of comfort food is this morning, I made a special breakfast for Saturday. I got the new Thomas Light Multigrain muffins. I toasted one and spread 1/4 tbsp of peanut butter on each side and then cut up an extra small banana and spread it on both sides. It felt like an indulgent treat!! It was a bit higher on carbs than normal for me but it was very healthy and fiber filled, nonetheless :goodnevil

Rewards are key!

I will admit (shh) that one of my main problems with dieting is that I enjoy a drink. So, I budget in my calories that day that I might have a glass or two of wine (1 8 oz glass = 150 cals). Maybe it means half a sandwich at lunch, or passing on my snack that day. If I decide I don't want the drink, then I have the calories as a low-fat ice cream bar. This is likely not the "ideal" strategy but we all have our weaknesses, and I have to accommodate mine.

I will also admit that I have added supplements to my 1200-1500 cal diet. I am taking 2 mega-t green tea w/ hoodia a day, once in the mid-morning, and once around 4PM. I also take a women's once daily vitamin, and drink 64-72 oz of water. I have a water bottle with the oz on the side so that I can track it.

I am now down a total of 13 lbs as of this morning (yeah, I weighed again!). This is end of the 4th week, but I didn't until mid-way through the first one.

Welcome to the group, dj!! I sit at a desk too so I really have to make an effort to lose weight.

Okay I am going to revive this... weighed in this morning, and down a total of 18 lbs.

I haven't been great lately, and actually had a whole week off the wagon, so I am very encouraged by this.

That is great news, Kat!! You have lost a lot and maintained without huge effort. That is really great!! :wearenumb

I have been ultra aware of my weight for seven straight months. I guess I am afraid if I don't keep an eye it, the weight might try to hop back on, lol  :p As of yesterday, I have lost 40 pounds. I would not mind losing 5 or 6 more but I am not obsessed with it either :blueflowe
