*smile* Isn't it great to be in a position to do such things?
I think mine are spoiled by the number of activities we are able to do, but they also show a good bit of appreciation, so it all balances out! To me its all in expectations, appreciation and general good vs bad behavior.
I hope you all have a blast!!!

Hi Laura(s)!
I wrestled with the spoiling our only daughter thing too. I think it hinges on teaching values and empathy along with their ability to feel grateful for what they have that is important.
We traveled a lot and had a beautiful estate (that I built) to live in, and yep, d looked good in clothes, so she had a LOT of them...On the other hand, I never felt we were pretentious, I bought her duds on sale, and we never got into the keeping up with the Jonses thing. So hopefully, it all balances out.
Enjoy doing those things with them Laura....they grow up so fast!
We won't be going through the Canal (west to east ) until October 9....so depending on your cruise date of departure we MAY be sharing that same ocean! If someone shows me how to link (do I just copy/paste a website?) then I can let the Dream web cam be a link here, so you'all can follow the ship through the canal!!!! (and I am really going to try to insert a Micky balloon on the front of the ship..)

CB... I will be on my girls cruise Oct 10th-15th....
Laura... we balance things here. They girls have been very active with the Hurricane Katrina fund, and we go thru their toys and clothes to donate them to other kids less fortunate.
When we were building our house we talked about how lucky we are to be able to do this.... how hard daddy and mommy work so this can happen. How we always buy things on sale... save one place to splurge on others. When we eat meals in the villa, we talk about the money it saves.... they know that plastic card I swipe lets the store's computer talk to our bank computer and that it takes the money out of our account and gives it to the store. They have to earn any spending money they have for trips. From Mickey bars, to Princess dolls... if they dont work for it, they dont get it... 100% of the time.
We try to teach... the value of a dollar... to respect everyone... and what people spend/have is not what they are worth... worth comes from the heart.

My kids are spoiled rotten! We are inclined to give them all that we are able to give them. I'm of the mind that tomorrow isn't promised to any of us so we have to live this day as wonderfully as possible. I don't want to have any regrets or say I didn't give them all I could.
Despite this philosophy, they are remarkably sweet and compassionate. They know they are among the fortunate one's in this world.
