I am down to 9 months to get in better shape for our land & sea trip and want to get rid of some of the flab. If weight watchers is for men as well as women their website sure doesn't make that point. Does anyone have any suggestions on weight loss programs or diets?
By the way, the gym is not really an option...we live in a small town & the only gym here is Curves. The nearest co-ed/male gym is 20+ miles away...talk about a motivation breaker.

Brian, Weight Watchers does work for men - and if you join, their forums has a mens' only section. However, you're right - overwhelmingly pitched towards women. The system works, though - if you follow the plan.
I like South Beach for a quick start, followed by a modified Weight Watchers/South Beach blend. Basically the 1-2 weeks of Phase 1 on South Beach gives you some quick results, and then the Phase 2 period gives you enough ingredients to enjoy a variety of menus. I blend it with WW by eating foods on the SB lists, but keeping it to WW point totals. The issue for me is portion control, which is why the point system helps keep it in check.
Using either plan, you should be able to lose 1-2 pounds a week, probably closer to 2 if you keep to the exercise (even just walking for 30 minutes makes a difference).
If I do just WW, I'm tempted to use my points for foods that are real triggers for me.
Anyway - I just started the plan anew yesterday, and have to lose 45 pounds to be where I was 2 years ago. Sad, but true. 6 months of excellent diet and exercise killed by a 3 week trip to Disnesyland and California where sensible eating got thrown out the window!
I applaud your efforts - you will really apprecaiate it when you get there.

A pesky woman popping into this thread :) I am here to recommend a free weight loss site that has been wonderful for me and there are tons of men there using the site! There are motivational groups there for men as well and all of the tools are geared to both sexes :loveisint The site is called Sparkpeople.com. I have lost 32 pounds there so far. You can list me as your referring member if you like because I want Sparkpeople to know I am spreading the 'spark' :loveisint My username is: WITHSPIRIT on that website :) I hope it helps you as much as it has me.. My most successful tools of all is the food tracker, the fitness tracker and the community support :grouphug:

Lisa,
You are welcome in the thread anytime....in fact I was surprised a bit that my only reply for a while was from Dirk. But seriously, thanks for the site info:highfive: ...I was planning to enroll in weight watchers tomorrow. You may have saved me a bit of cash on this one!

The little bit I've seen of the spark people website is awesome...I haven't had enough time to check it all out...there seems to be so much there, but I definitely like what I've seen. Thanks!

Brian, you need to take a seat on the couch, grab the remote, watch reruns of Baywatch and rethink this whole weight loss thingy.
Body fat is the one thing you can truely call your own. It's paid for, no one wants it or will take it away from you. How many other things are there in life you can say that about.
Don't make any hasty decisions. Go get a snack and relax.

Brian, my DH did WW with me a few years ago. I signed up online and he started following my diet. He found a point tracker online (i guess somebody cracked the WW code) and the guy sent it to DH to download. He kept track of his own points on his computer and I kept track of mine on the home computer. He ran and biked several times a week. He also went to a GNC store and bought a "can" of protein and drank that mixed with some drink everyday. He carried around a water bottle with him at work the whole day. He dropped 60 lbs in 4 months (made me sick!:crackedup ). But WW worked for him. Once we got past the initial few weeks it really wasn't that hard. Now, keeping it off is a whole story to itself.
