View Full Version : Hello and Happy New Year - Pop
I was going to stay outside disney but I just discovered DVC and I'm still trying to figure out how this works. If I could stay onsite at a reasonable rate it would be great.
My wife and I have been to disney the last two years and we are planning on coming down this year without the kids. (not really kids at 21 and 24).
We've stayed at port Orleans and loved it. I think anything moderate or deluxe would be fine.
Am I correct that a DVC member could sell me his points and I could use them to stay at a deluxe resort at a reduced rate?
I've been trying to research but with time so short I could use some hand holding...
Looks like a sunday to thursday stay would be the least expensive and that would be fine.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
If you have time at a resort that would work for me that would be great also.

Hi Pop!
You are right that you can stay at a deluxe at a much better rate by renting points and that a Sunday through Thursday stay would be "cheaper".
You need to decide what size unit you need (Studio - has a kitchenette and a balcony and is slightly bigger than a standard hotel room - sleeps 4.....a 1 bedroom which has a full kitchen, washer/dryer, balcony, pull out sofa in the living room and a king sized bed in the master, spa tub - also sleeps 4 but they seem to be allowing 5 on the reservation....or a 2 bedroom which has all the above, except it has 3 beds in 2 bedrooms). Then decide when you would like to go. Go over to the rental area of this board and place and "ad" telling exactly what you desire (size and dates) and hopefully you will get some offers. On the website for MOuseowners, there are points charts that will tell you how much each kind of room "cost" in points for a night and points tend to rent for $10-$12 each. Different weeks have different values and this might effect your decision as well. Different hotels also have different per night point rates, so if you would like to stay at a specific hotel then check for that specific point chart when you are looking to estimate how much it will cost for the dates you desire. Old Key West tends to be the "cheapest" and has the largest rooms as it was the first DVC resort and they didn't realize we were crazy and would come for more points to smaller spaces
Ask more questions (because I am sure what I just wrote was clear as mud), check out the website here and the rental board. You can DEFINATELY do better than the rack rate for a deluxe resort by renting points!

Pop,
Welcome to MouseOwners. And a Happy New Year to you as well.
Yes, you can "buy" (its really renting) points from a member for a stay at a WDW resort. Stays at the DVC resorts work on a point system and a chart describing how many points it takes to stay per night can be found at this forum's companion website - www.mouseowners.com.
There you can also take a close look at each of the DVC resorts.
I doubt you want to rent points from a member and use them towards a discount at the deluxe resorts. Its really not a good use of your money. Though possible, DVC points are really intended to be used at the DVC resorts - all of which I am sure you will find - compare to the deluxe resorts - if not outshine them in some regards.
Troll through the companion website and take a close look at the resorts and the point charts to see where and when you may want to stay. Renting points is fairly straightforward and cost about $14 a point.
