On the other big DVC board - there is another rumor about ALL the WDW deluxe resort having an area that DVC could build on at some time.

even the Polyn, GF.

the Polyn would be where the Cove is for the Luau.

the GF would be in the valet parking

the AKL would be between the pool and bus stop.

So what do you think?

would you buy a DVC resort at any of these places?

I saw that ''other'' thread going around.
I don't know if it really will happen or not.
I can't afford to buy more points for a while, between trying to sell my house, buying a new one, getting engaged, I can't spend anything!
However, I would love to stay at one if they were built. I can see me wanting to stay at a DVC at the Poly, I have interest in a DVC at the CR, but I would kill for a DVC at the AKL!!!

Have a hard time believing the GF and the Poly. Really can't see them getting rid of the Luau cove!

Unless they have room to replace the parking lot at GF, which I can't belive they can do or they would put the DVC there, I can't see that one happening either.

You just never know what magice DIsney could work, though. ;)

I'm guessing this originated with Monday's post at Jim Hill Media:

"Another way that the company intends to deal with this too-many-empty-on-property-hotel-rooms issue is by converting a number of WDW resorts into Disney Vacation Club properties. This will be done slowly over the next 10 years, which will then effectively remove these hotels from Disney World's existing resort inventory. Thereby making it easier for the company to concentrate on filling the rooms that remain."

Jim's article attempts to dispel rumors of a pending announcement for the 5th theme park. It seems the rumor mill started churning again when a columnist at MiceAge.com theorized that Disney's sizable investment in new roads on property were a precursor to using adjacent land for a new park. Jim can't find any evidence of a new park coming, and throws-out a number of compelling arguments against it. The whole article can be found here for those curious:

Part of this theory does make sense. Face it: every new DVC member means someone that will no longer be staying in a cash resort. While trip frequency under DVC may well increase, it's impossible to deny the direct impact at some level. By-and-large, people don't just buy DVC on a whim--they have established patterns of visiting WDW, patterns which DVC will subsequently change.

At the same time, we all know that there are times of the year when the resorts are at 100% capacity.

While I've become jaded by the endless rumors, speculation at the Contemporary probably does make the most sense. I'd be shocked to find out that the CR was anything less than lowest in terms of average occupancy among the Deluxe resorts. You knock down one of those wings, build twice as many DVC rooms and watch the lemmings line up to buy. You solve two problems at once.

As for other WDW resorts...someone wake me when the CR is actually announced.

I would guess AKL would be the logical choice for the DVC construction not the Poly or GF and I really hope they don't build at either of those 2 places as my family has no desire what so ever to stay at either place.

You know when the BRP first came out, many people were up in arms.

Then you read a few posts about "I am so glad I bought DVC and don't have to worry about it anymore". I now am one of those.

There was also speculation that there was a saturation of AP holders and this was their way of weeding out those that really didn't want to use the AP for park admission only.

And one item brought up that is intriguing now after reading the posts of resorts: "I wonder if Disney is doing this to force people into buying DVC"

It might have some merit.

tjkraz is right though, if more people buy into DVC there are fewer people going to pay cash for rooms.

Makes me wonder, if 20 years down the road if the only cash resorts on site are 1-2 deluxes, all the moderates and values. The rest of the deluxes are pure DVC.

I know after 9/11 - DVC members were definitely more appreciated by WDW in general. We still came to WDW....Bombing are not going to stop DVC member from going to WDW.

if they could get more people to have that kind of loyal to WDW. that would be a good thing for WDW.

I personally think that most of the deluxes (maybe some of moderates) will be hybrid. Like VWL/WL, BC/BCV, BWV/BWI.

lots of people have say if DVC were at the Polyn they would buy into DVC immediately. So I have a problem with DVC having land rights at the Polyn too. If they did you would have though they would have built something there by now.

there was even a rumor that part of the Pop Century would go to DVC. Like Horizons is the Marriott Vacation Club.

I have been surprized over the years in DVC ability to find DVC member no matter where they are staying on property.....big brother in action....
