I was traveling home so I wasn't able to answer the phone (I was one who was picked for the first time cruiser thing). They did call me 3 times and left 3 messages today.

However because of having to pay in full at the time of booking I couldn't swing it. I did speak with Jim Lewis and another DVC GM guy about it and they said they were "working on" something where they could do billing.

Yes, I also have been very curious who got "the call" yesterday. I just heard on another board about someone who'd "lost" the lottery, but ended up getting a surprise call from DVC yesterday, offering them the cruise. So who got "the call" yesterday?

Not me, but I don't like the pay in full option either. I am sure they want to protect against people booking and cancelling, but why not make it a totally non-refundable deposit for those that wish to pay over the next year. I don't have anything else that I pay for a year in advance, and it isn't going to be a vacation.

I just got a phone call from DVC member services telling me that they still have cabins available and that even though I had received an e-mail stating I wasn't selected, they wanted to offer me one. They must have had a whole lot of people change their minds to still be making phone calls like this.

I told her no thank you, I wasn't interested in paying in full now for a cruise that is almost a year away.

I am now wondering if I will be sorry I didn't at least discuss it with hubby, but I am betting not.

Boy, paying higher than average prices for a cruise during hurricane season and paying that higher price a year in advance....No WONDER the ship aint FOOL yet.

I'd ask for a 10% interest on my money that I could use in shipboard credit at the very least.

OK...vent over.

I was told that they ask for payment in full because they weren't set up for billing yet. And it was something they were working on. I spoke with Jim Lewis and Rick Burnley (GM of MS) after the SSR meeting about it.

Told them in my particular situation I would love to go but dropping around 8 grand in a weeks time was a bit to much. (4 grand for vacation and another 4 for the member cruise).

We booked today...I started new thread on how the process went rather than posting it here...a bit off topic.

Especially at this time of year! Not the greatest timing.

I was in a similar situation to Rwethereyet. I received the e-mail saying that I had not been selected. Then, later in the week, I had a message on my home phone, and on my cell phone, asking me to call back as cabins were available. I called back, and when I heard the price, I opted to not go. I knew Disney cruises were more expensive than other cruises, but it's about 2X the cost of a Royal Caribbean cruise. I'd like to do Disney, but 2X?

Yeah, I guess if you want to pay double the cost for a cruise, you do need an illegal gambling operation in your basement!

Actually this cruise is only 10% higher in points than the regular disney cruises and has neither the $75 booking fee nor the gratuities - they are pre-paid. Add those in and it probably is only 5% more. I'll pay an extra 5-10% for a possible chance to meet Roy Disney who was on last years cruise.

skelster,

I was just ribbin' Tiggerguy2000 as he's just a bit "upbeach" from me! And the double comment was based off of Dennyha's comparison to R.C. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Haven't done the research myself, but I've met Dennyha and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. As you point out though, there are intangibles with a Disney cruise that make it worth it for you. Happy :sailing:

:grouphug: <----That's for everyone but you, Tiggerguy, as I may end up sitting across a poker table from ya, and gotta keep my distance. :D

No problem. If I seemed too harsh in my post, it was entirely unintentional. I actually failed to re-read dennyha's post before typing the reply....I was thinking everyone was thinking the members only cruise was 2x the regular cruise and wanted to clear that up...turns out I was the one who needed clearing up. :footopenm

Dennyha is right: I checked Royal Caribbean you can go for about half the price of disney. For a room comparable to the cat 6 I am in for the member cruise, I could have saved roughly $500 per adult and 600 for my 4 year old. Disney was cheaper for our 1 year old by $60.

And thanks for the :grouphug:

skelster,

NO not too harsh. That was some good info in your post (unlike mine!). I wasn't sure if you knew yet that I write all my posts with a smile on my face (sometimes a big ol' goofy one) and am often just throwing out straight lines for someone to snap up! :o

Nano,It may seem funny but I dont gamble. The things I have I got as a thank You from a casino.I do my homework when it comes to vacations so I did know it's cheaper to go on other cruises other then Disney but the gambling thing is not for me.I was just having fun but I can see it came off wrong or humor was lacking.
Ribbing me is okay and don't worry you will never be sitting at my table:D

I always look forward to reading your posts!

As for the whole Disney thing, I really do get it. I love going to Disney (this Saturday we leave for our 5th trip this year), and I totally accept that everything associated with Disney is priced at a premium. Since prices are determined, not by costs, but by what the market will bear, Disney "experiences" should be a premium over non-Disney "experiences". BUT, while I can accept, and even defend a 20% premium, or a 30% premium, or maybe even a 50% premium, on a cruise, I just about choked when MS told me the price. This past summer, our family of 4 took a 4 day Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean for a little over $2000. An inside cabin for 2, in October which is off season, was quoted to be $1050 per person. While I choked on the price, I understand that they are selling out at these prices, so apparently the market will bear their price.

Instead of a cruise, I think I'll go buy some Disney stock.

LOL I keep planning on buying stock but it's hard to pull money from good performers just because I like some mickey mouse :mrmouse: product. :dancingba
