If you are over 16 and have a Dive certification card, you can take this tour.
It's about an hour in the tank. You can have friends and family watch/photo you from outside the tank and essentially 'be a part of the show'.

The DVC discount is 15% but the Disney Visa is 20%.

They supply all the equipment including a shortwetsuit. And you get to do some behind the scenes stuff to boot!

I booked it for Nov 27th at 4:30, but I don't have any family to come watch me...so if you'rein the parks, come say HI.

Oh..this tour doesn't need a ticket...so if you don't have a pass, this is a great way to spend some time in Epcot without having a ticket!

The tour is $160 less dicount for $112

I'll let you know if I think it is worth it!

I've heard it is a great experience. I thought about doing it on my last trip but ended up not doing it because we had the days pretty much all planned out.

The only bad thing I heard is that it isn't really that much time in the water.

I'm sure you'll have a blast though!

They have two versions of this tour..... one does need to be SCUBA certified, one does not. Kim and I did the "non-Cert" version, which is still *incredibly* fun. Same backstage access, still an hour (or so) of swimming in the big pool.... the only difference is you're basically snorkeling (although they give you a tank, so you don't have to worry about fouling your snorkel), instead of diving.

Highly recommended!!

My FIL really wants to do this but he has a short 4 hour trip booked when we get to Nassau on the cruise.

One word of caution to pass along to your FIL. Tell him, at the least, take his own mask and snorkel. Also, check the air in the tanks before you load up - make sure it doesn't have an "oily" taste.

I made this mistake when I took a cruise with Carnival. I can't remember the dive company that the "tour" was with, but I hadn't planned to go diving during that cruise, it was a last minute thing. Needless to say, I didn't have any of my gear with me so I had to use what they had on the boat.

The masks they had were junk. Scratched up and the seals were warped (so needless to say they leaked). I didn't test the air for "quality", I just assumed it would be ok. When we started our first dive I thought it might have just been fumes from the boat motors that had made my stomach upset. I didn't really catch on until we were heading back to shore and I had this oily taste in my mouth (that stuck with me the rest of the day)! Actually, it stuck with me until we went to Senior Frogs that night and have a few drinks.

I'm sure many others have had better experiences, just tell your FIL to find out who the dive tour is with and check them out. They should be recognized by some of the dive associations (PADI, SSI, etc).

I asked if he was taking his drysuit he just laughed and said no this isn't the TUB (Tobermory) he does checout dives up there in early to mid May every year for the classes he teaches and it is cold cold water even in teh warmest months of the summer LOL. I will find out who he is diving with and let you know.

Dry suit! :ROTFL:
I was in swim trunks and a t-shirt. I need to pull out my dive log and see what the water temps were....

Your FIL has my dream retirement job. I want to be a dive instructor that works for some of the big resort companies and spends all summer going to the various resorts to update the dive masters, etc. A couple of years ago I started on the instructor training, but had to sorta put that off to focus on school...

Oh... I just thought about how far off topic I've gotten.

Yeah, so the water in the tanks at Epcot are pretty warm too...no drysuit needed! :goodvibes

Ya he loves teaching diving he is also a Firefighter in London and runs the Dive team and is DC (distrct chief) he started teaching me but I just have no time with having the kids all day and working at night then hockey and all teh kids activities I don't get out much for myself. He is just bringign a shorty to wear my BIL is going with us but he isn't going on teh cruise he is going on a cave diving excursion he is certified in nitrox and this was a big dream of his to be able to dive some of the caves under Florida. Back on topic we have seen many people do teh dive quest and they have all said it was great. I remember eating at the coral reef and seeing them in the water playing with the guests eating lunch I bet that just adds to the fun of the experiance of the dive at WDW.

We did Dive Quest a couple years ago (the SCUBA version) with about 6 other folks from work. It was an interesting experience, but different from being out in the ocean. I came away thinking "I'll never have a fish in a fishtank." :goldfish:

We didn't have anyone watching us, but we did spend a lot of time "playing" with the guests who were dining at Coral Reef. I hope you have an enjoyable dive!

Thanks Nono!
There is still construction going on at the Living Seas and so there may be no 'guests' to play with...and it does seem that this is a part of the experience. Plus, my friend from Tampa can only come over for a day and a half and I don't want her to be left hanging while I'm diving.

So, no worries, I'm calling today and moving it til my May trip and then matysgrannma and Idratherbe...can hoot and holler and take photos (if its open by then!)

I think since its paid for and I'm just rescheduling that i can still get my Disney Visa discount....I'm gonna try that's for sure.

Cave diving is really neat. Our local dive club goes cave diving in FL once or twice a year. I've only been a couple of times, but it has always been a blast. There are a bunch of underwater caves down there though. Whew. My aunt lives right down the street from Peacock springs, but I haven't been diving there. I've been at Ginnie Springs and the Devil Springs system. I did another one too when we were searching for manatees, but the name has escaped me.

Anyway, I forgot what the topic was now. Oh yeah, Dive Quest... I need to do that! :hammer:
