Are the washers and dryers on the Disney ships free, or do you need to have quarters available to use them?

I'm wondering if I should do laundry before going on the cruise (for free at DVC), or wait until I'm on board the ship.

From DCL:

Onboard laundry and dry-cleaning services (with stateroom pickup) are available for a charge.

There is also a self-service Guest Laundry Room with coin-operated washers and dryers, along with detergent and ironing equipment.

For safety reasons, the provided irons or steamers may be used in the laundry room only; personal irons cannot be brought aboard.

If you're in a 1 Bdrm (?), personally, I'd definately leave for the ship will all clean clothes. HTH

I'd definitely do the wash before going. A trip on the Wonder isn't that long and there aren't THAT many washers and dryers on the ship. I think the Wonder and Magic have the same number of machines, and they were always going on the Magic. We were lucky that they were just down the hall from us on Deck 2, but you could have several decks between you and a laundry room.

If you're an early bird, you'll probably not have a problem - but I wouldn't want to tie up my cruise time keeping an eagle-eye on the machines!

On my cruise, the guys would tie their cloths to a robe with a heavy weight on the end and throw them over the fantail for an hour or so. Worked pretty well, it was free and didn't require packing a detergent.

Just taking the guys and dangling them over the waves for an hour also works. Shower and clothes wash at the same time. What's more efficient?! Problem is, some crew member always insists on yelling "Man overboard" and hauling folks up before the rinse cycle is done.

If you are only going on the 4 day, don't plan on doing laundry. I had to on the 7 day with a family of 5, just can't pack enough clothes for 3 kids and two adults and not have to stop and do laundry at some point. I think there were 4 washers and 4 dryers on deck 2. I had to wait to wash and dry and walk back and forth several times to "check" on my stuff. I would have much rather taken dirty laundry home than stand around wasting precious cruise time doing laundry.

I just did my laundry on the 4 day and had no problem. It was raining on the Castaway day anyway. You need quarters.

When you set the washer, it tells you how much time it will take. Same when you set the dryer. I didn't find it wasted any time for me at all, but I only did one load of each.

I was glad to leave the ship with 1/2 my clothes clean for the rest of my trip at WDW.

Laundry on the ships could be rough during any length of stay. Laundry is not on every deck, so look on the floor plans to see where they are. I know for sure that there is a laundry room on decks 2 and 7. There are others, though.

THey take quarters and from my experience, the change machines aren't always working properly, so you'll want to bring some of your own.

The laundry rooms also have an iron and ironing board. Just take a look at the flat part of the iron before using it. I made the mistake one time of not looking....something was melted on the iron and it ruined a shirt of my husband's.

OH, also...since the machines are so limited, people will just take your stuff out and toss it aside if you aren't there. I'm sure this happens in regular laundry facilities all the time, but I've found it to be particularly bad on the ships....probably because the machines are so few in number.

OH, and don't even think about attempting laundry during a day at sea. :scary:

With the condition of our oceans lately I'm surprised the clothes didn't get full of oil and lost fisherman's nets. :scratchch
