Does anyone know if the balcony-less studio at VWL is woods or lake view? How can I best ensure that I don't get stuck in that room? Should I specifically request a balcony through MS? Or are there more subtle ways to make sure I don't get assigned that room?

Well if you can locate the room number of that room...just don't leave the front desk if they assign it to you.

Or, for your request you can ask for a room WITH A BALCONY.
MS will tell you that they ALL have balconies...but of course we know better!:hahahaha:

(I requested my BWV with a tub and I got the 'they all have tubs' from MS...Of course the HA studios do NOT have tubs.

If that is the most impt thing to you, then if you make that your first request, it would be hard for them to deny it to you. Of course, I like your strategy of finding out whether that no balcony room is lake or forest and then just requesting the opposite...that works too!

Room 4533 has no balcony.

I believe it's 4533 or 4535. I've had it before as part of a 2 bedroom. It wasn't that bad as part of a 2 bedroom( my parents had the studio portion) because the 1 bedroom portion had a balcony off the living room and the bedroom. So we still had 2 balconies with the 2 bedroom. I would never accept it as a studio only accomodation. It is a woods/pool view room. If you are walking down the 4th floor long hallway, it is the second or third door on your left. So it's pretty close to the elevator too. I've been told it's the only room without a balcony (some design flaw I think). Your chances of getting it are probably not too big.

According to THE CHART (http://members.aol.com/InstImpres/wildernesslodge.pdf), it's a dedicated studio. But if you had it as part of a two-bedroom, it's obviously not dedicated. So one way would be to request a dedicated studio.

I have the room number memorized and will tell them at check-in that's the room I don't want.

I agree for I now also know the number, thanks.

I called member services and asked for a dedicated studio, and the person I spoke with had no idea what I was asking. I'll try again tomorrow.

I referred back to this map http://members.aol.com/InstImpres/wildernessmap.pdf to remember what room it was. For some reason the 4th floor doesn't follow this same pattern. It's 4533 (studio) first, and then 4535 (1 bedroom) that follows. I think the thing probably just got plumbed wrong or something and they had to switch it around. I can reassure you that it is NOT a dedicated studio, so that request might just keep you away from it.

I had heard about the room with no balcony and believe it or not I think that would bother me more than the dumpster view. I have learned since joining DVC to accept what I get for a room as long as it is NS. DH told me I got too crazy sometimes and that we will get good rooms and bad rooms over the next several year. I don't understand how they could make you stay in a room with no balcony when clearly all the DVC resorts are listed as having a balcony or patio. DH and I leave in 2 two weeks and we had a studio for 2 nights and a one BR for 3. My waitlist for BCV just came thru yesterday and I had only gone on the waitlist a few weeks ago after reviewing our itinerary and realizing that the first 2 days we would be at Epcot exclusively. So the good news is that someone who is waitlisted for 12/1 and 12/2 for a studio at VWL will be happy and I'll still get to spend 3 nights there and I won't have to worry that I won't have a balcony.....If anyone would like to join us on our 1BR balcony for drinks overlooking the dumpster please let me know...I can always hang a wreath and some lights on the dumpster if we get that view!

The no balcony room was a gift for our very first 2 bedroom stay. We had brought along my parents and my SIL. The first room we were assigned was on the 2nd floor(she didn't tell me the room #, just 2nd floor. I immediately started asking if it was a non- smoking room since all the smoking rooms are on the 2nd floor. I just wanted everything to be perfect since this was my parents first trip with us, and I didn't want them to think we had foolishly spent our money on a WDW timeshare. She was a very nice CM and said let me just move you then. She did add that not all rooms on the second floor are smoking, but she didn't want me to smell it walking down the hallway. So I was awarded the 4th floor no balcony room! In her defense, I believe she was a trainee and maybe didn't know. Like I said, it really wasn't that bad as part of a 2 bedroom setup. In fact, if you had young children it might be a blessing(trying to stay positive). It did make the room seem really small, but since my parents had never been with us, they didn't know what to expect anyway. It in no way ruined our trip.

MagicMommy- We'll be checking in to a 1 bed. at VWL on Dec. 31st. I imagine it there is one in the basement with a dumpster view, we'll probably get it!:ROTFL: I don't have high hopes of a good room assignment at all!
