Hi Everyone!
I am FINALLY going to be making my first DVC reservation and have a couple of questions to try to get the best location possible (we've owned for a little while now, but can FINALLY visit "home").

We're staying at SSR (home resort) and are reserving a non-smoking, 2-bedroom for 5 nights.

That said, which is better...a DEDICATED 2-bedroom or a NON-DEDICATED 2-bedroom?

I know I cannot request a particular room #, but are there certain buildings, with certain views that I should request?

Any inside info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

dedicated or lock off.

depends if you are going with other adults the lock off is great - they have their own outside so they could go party at DD without bothering you.

if you are traveling with young children I would go with the dedicated because you don't want them to have a door to the outside.

a lock off has a balcony, dedicated does not.

a lock off has a kitchennett, a dedicated does not. a dedicated does have a bigger closet.

Hmmm - a few of questions pop in my mind....

First off - what is your travel party like? If you have a seperate couple who might like some privacy, then I would get the lock-off (and now that I say that - I think almost all the units at SSR are lockoffs aren't they?). They can have their morning coffee without meeting you in the kitchen in their jammies if that would bother them. Also, it would provide them with more of a private space if they wanted some quiet time.

As for where you want to request...do you want to try for a DTD view or is it more important to you to be able to walk to the main pool/store/activity area? Personally, we like being close to the pool and other activity areas and usually request that. I am sure at some point, we will request a DTD view and will hopefully get it, but for now, location and not having the kids have to walk to far to swim, get movies, etc is best for us. I would decide which feels more important to you and then request by "area" as much as view.

Good luck!

We've had a two-bedroom lockoff twice when sharing with friends and family. One advantage to the lockoff is the studio portion has a kitchenette. Doug and I are both decaffeinated and we were able to make our decaf coffee in the morning, and the other family was able to make their high-test coffee at the same time.

Another advantage to a lockoff is the phone. We can have a wake up call scheduled for 6:30 and the phone doesn't ring in the studio portion. So they can have their own wake up call for 7:00.

So if you're traveling with friends or extended family, a lockoff would probably be better.

a lock off has a balcony, dedicated does not.

I think spicey is referring to a balcony off of the second bedroom. Both style rooms would have a balcony off of the living room but a lockoff would have a second one which would serve as the balcony for the Studio unit if it were...uh...locked-off. ;)

A couple other potential benefits to a lockoff would be:

* They have separate thermostats. I believe the dedicated 2Bs just have a single thermostat for the entire unit.

* If you will just have two adults staying in the second bedroom, they may appreciate the extra space and convenience of the sofa rather than having a second (presumedly unused) bed in the room. Of course they may like the extra closet space in a dedicated so I guess it's a toss-up. ;)

As for the number of each unit type, if memory serves there are 20 dedicated and 24 lockoffs in every single building at SSR.

Thanks for the info! (Duh....I forgot the non-dedicated's called a lock-off)

We are traveling with my mom, sister, BIL, & nephew (who will be 1-1/2 by then). I'm thinking that a lock-off will be our best bet....we were thinking of putting my sister/bil/nephew in the studio area, because if the baby needs anything, it will all be right there, and now I think that's what we'll do.

As for a view...I think this time we'd like the view & be closer to DTD. If we want to go to the main pool, we can always take the hike.

One other thing...there's elevators at SSR, right? Should I request a higher floor, too?

THANKS!!!!

Yes on the elevators :) They aren't always the closest to your room (we often used the stairs when we were there last year as it was backtracking to go to the elevators and then to the bus stop) but they work GREAT for unpacking.

these stairs are great - nice easy ones!!!

I was on the 4th floor - the highest ones (I got 5th floor is for the air conditioning and staff)

Yes I loved my 4th floor - Congress house - with a view of DD.
