View Full Version : Menu at Coral Reef not too fishy.

I was just looking at the up-dated menu over at Coral Reef. There are nine Entrees on the dinner menu. Four of those have nothing to do with seafood - chicken, NY strip, prime rib and Veggiemania.

The remaining five are catfish, salmon, shrimp pasta, Mahi-mahi & Ahi tuna.

I don't mean to offend those that enjoy C.R. but for petes sake, I can find a hugely better selection at Red Lobster.

It's the atmosphere at Coral Reef, not the menu. We ate there last month and had a wonderful view of the tank. A table near us was celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary, and the divers in the tank made a "40" out of their bodies. Then the sea turtle came and took a little nap right near our table.

Actually, we have a very good food and wine pairing at Coral Reef. I heard complaints from last year that the F&W pairing didn't feature seafood. We started with Lobster Bisque (a different recipe than the regular Coral Reef menu item) that was out of this world, followed by pan seared oysters (I'm not an oyster person, but they were very good), and cocoanut sorbet for dessert.

Just ask for a table near the tank and enjoy the view (and getting in other people's vacation pictures).

I don't know ghost..... something about seeing a better selection swimming past me than I see on the menu just doesn't seem right.

Ate there once, about 10 years ago and had a fab meal, though DMiL didn't - poorly cooked chicken and I remember teasing her with 'that's what you get when you go to a fish restaurant.'

I can still recall the alligator sausage appetizer - to die for. Sitting right in front of the tank was pretty cool too.

Viking, we thought the same thing when we ate there last month. The fish I got was very good. But it was so LOUD in there. Like fast food restaurant loud. Kids running up to the tank, that were sitting beside. Got on your nerves after a while. Our poor server was way overworked. These DDP people beside us were so rude to her! She let out a big smile when we said we were not on the dining plan. We had excellent service!

Wow! Is that thing real? If so, where was it caught?

About the fish at CR (or rather, lack of it), when I made my ADRs for it, I couldn't wait to have the swordfish-I haven't been able to find that for years. Sadly, they took it off before I went in September. It's probably happily "rescued" from consumption, along with the duck from Chefs de France. But I'm not happy!

They're called "Channel Cats". Not sure where this little guy was caught, but they really do get this size and larger.

The larger ones are usually served as part of a two-fer combination at most TS locations.

Did a little research.... it's not a channel cat, probably a Blue.

It's a real picture, but I haven't been able to track down where it was caught (but from all appearances it was caught in Italy).

That may be a Dolphinfish (http://www.hawaii.gov/dbedt/seafood/mahimahi.html) in that picture, often called mahimahi, which is what I had for dinner at the Coral Reef last month.

BTW, none of the fish in the tank are on the Coral Reef menu. That way guests aren't made to feel guilty when looking in the tank.

Not just cleavage, but some GAMS too, The Viking! You really lucked out on this thread!

:rockband:

P.S. I absolutely HATE C.R. Almost as much as Alfredos. They are the only two restaurants on property that if I never go there again ever, it'll be OK for me.
