Before I even drop the carryon, I RUN to the balcony to check out the view! :)

Check out the layout, is the master to the right or the left, in other words, where will I be parking my butt in the evening, and then what is the view. We never get a good/great view, so I don't like to get too disappointed. :sosad:

I'm still new to the whole DVC thing, so usually what I do first is take pictures (including the view from the balcony).

I give my guide a big sloppy kiss for getting me the best view available. :yummy: He always meets me at the villa to welcome me home.
:lmbo:

Does yours do that TW1?

Seriously, I have no idea what I do -- I don't think I do anything consistently -- probably just look around and see if everything seems OK.

If your guide gives you 'a big sloppy kiss', I'm not sure TW1 can write on a family board what his guide does . . .

I'm in the take a photo family of first things to do.

1. Check out the view.
2. Lie down on the bed and cool off if it's AUgust and I carried my own bags.
3. Put up the mini-light set around my balcony.

I steal the batteries out of my tv remote control, than call maintenance and tell them it doesn't work. They show up, install fresh batteries. I put the old ones back in and keep the new ones. This way, when I buy some bit-o-crap toy off the clearance rack for one of my 49 parasitic neices or nephews, I don't have to spend more on the batteries than the toy is worth.

Viking, you are an inspiration

I guess we do the view thing, too. Interesting study in human behavior... Most of us won't spend more than a couple hours on the balcony during a vacation.

I hate to mention it, but I check to see if the room is pretty clean. After a bum deal at BCV and chocolate donuts in the girls bed last spring at Riverside, I'm not taking my chances anymore. If the dirty room thing happens again, I'm going to immediately request a room change. I spent half the week at BCV trying to get them to come clean the room. Had I just requested a new room when we got there we would have been much better off. After checking out the room, I then check the view.

I bet you have a full supply of Mickey soap, little bottles of shampoo and lotion and a year's supply of the toilet paper which can also be used to strip the paint off furniture!

I don't really know WHAT I do. I think I check to make sure everything seems in order (before we go in and the order immediately disappears :lmbo: ), check out the view and then begin the schlepping of luggage and groceries. Hard to use bellservices if the car looks like an entertainment bomb went off while you drove down. DVDs here...crayons there...loose pillows/blankets/little hammers to bonk heads with, etc are everywhere!

This thread makes me laugh. I am reading it over the phone to hubby and he isn't quite sure what to think :)

However, I guess I never paid attention to what I do. But if I had to venture out and guess, I would guess take pictures of the villa before it becomes all messy.

I check to make sure the room is indeed nonsmoking and if a studio, has a full bath THEN everyone can drop their bags. I then check the view and look to see if everything looks fairly clean and if there are any items missing we may need - like bowls, etc. so I can gonna ahead and call before we head out.

I usually unpack everything, too before we go out to play.

I know, I sound like a real bore.

The first thing I do is make a beeline for the bathroom.... afterall, I drive, and it's a 12 hour drive, and I'm picky (some might say anal) about public restrooms...anyways, dont want to give you all too much information; afterall, some things must be kept secret..... for now....

corinnak
11-21-2006, 03:11 AM
Check in the closets and under the beds to make sure no one is hiding there with a big knife.....then get out the clorox wipes and clean the phones and remotes and then...everything else. Then load up the dishwasher to re-wash the dishes, strip the questionable bead spreads off the beds and sanitize the whirpool tub. :bugeyed:

OK - I'm not really THAT nervous. Though I might do a few of those things.......I think in the future I will do that photo and balcony thing. It sounds nice. Restful-like. :flowerfor

I really enjoyed reading this thread. We've only just purchased into SSR and wont be making our first visit until Feb, but now I have a plan,
1. Look out balcony
2. Remove batteries from the remote
3. Jump spread eagle on the bed
4. Inspect the room for anything missing
5. Unpack bags

Gosh, I hope we check in early, I would like some time to also make it down to the pool.

Ron knows me well enough to know if he wants the spread eagle to work, when I walk in the room, he better have removed the spread.

You want spontaneity?
He can throw the bedspread on the floor, does not have to be neatly folded.

And one step further, he better not be laying on top of the blanket.

When he throws the spread back to toss spontaneously on the floor, he better yank the covers down too.

Until they have a 'grand gathering' event that involves Captain Jack checking into my room first, there really shouldn't be any more talk about sponteneity, bedspreadeagles and the like.

But for the men who want to get in their women in that woo-ing spirit, I'd suggest
1. locking the kids out of the room (a twenty dollar bill stuffed in their hands usually makes this easier)

2. securing a boardwalk view by any means necessary.

3. Calling ahead so that the maid triple sheets the bed duvet style, opens and ices the wine or champagne .... and for the dramatic touch....a few rose petals (sans thorns) strewn across the duvet would be loverly/

4. And then.....when all is right in the world and there is a beautiful smile upon your loved one's face......:beatinghe
THEN
and only THEN:beatinghe

would the time and place and room be ready for::flowerfor

Captain Jack to trounce in and jump spread eagle on the bed while sending you on your way to play pirate games, find hidden treasure, or watch the football game.

(1) Walk through and look at everything...usually while :jumpingbe all over the place.
(2) Take pictures before we start unloading our gear.
(3) Unpack and get settled.

I love that feeling of just walking in for the first time! :lovestruc I get a similar feeling of walking into the resort lobby for the first time, too. It's so exciting!
