OK, Thinking of getting my wife a Spa treatment on our first trip home to SSR. Who here has used the Spa, and do you recommend it?
Please provide me with feedback....
THanks!

I loved it. I thought the facility was very "posh". My husband had flowers delivered to the room that he ordered thru the Disney florist, and included in the flowers was a gift certificate to go to the spa. I was able to get a facial and a peppermint pedicure, and I was thrilled with both. Next time I might get the pedicuare at home first and go with a facial and a massage. I have thought that this would be a great way to spend the last day if you had a late flight.

I've been to the SSR spa twice (for pedicures). It's a very relaxing experience. The only complaint I've heard is that the waiting room is for both men and women (although it was the same way at Mandara Spa at the Grand Californian). Apparently some spas have separate waiting rooms.
Depending on which treatment, DVC members get a 20% discount. So remember to check that out. And you can use the spa facilities (I think the Jacuzzi) about an hour before the appointment. They'll tell you about it when you schedule the appointment.
I'm planning on getting the peppermint pedicure at SSR during my December visit.

My husband and I used the spa in September. I had a pedicure and it was probably the worst one I ever had. (I get them monthly) I believe it is a combination of products that they use along with technique. Within a few days most of the nail polish had come off and it looked as if I had never had it done. My husband had a manicure and loved it. The staff was very friendly. Although I was underwhelmed by my initial experience with the spa I do plan on trying it again when we visit in December. I will just skip the pedicure. Hope this helps! Beth

My husband and I had massages and we enjoyed the service as well as the surroundings.

I've had a massage at the SSR spa and thought it was on par with the massages I get at home, just more $$$. I would recommed the SSR spa. And DVC members get a discount on some treatments.
My only complaint is I wish they had a hot tub or steam room that my husband I could use together. It's boring sitting in a steam room by yourself with no one to talk to.

I had the Peppermint Pig Pedicure last November on my birthday, it was heavenly!! I can't wait to go back to the spa for my solo trip in March!
I've been there a few times, including last month, and the practitioners are first rate (I've only had body work done, not salon stuff). I perceive SSR Spa's rates expensive compared to others. The atmosphere -- eh. It's the most underwhelming spa I've been to that is supposed to be top rate. It's too antiseptic, too ecru, too sparse and too small (esp. that shared lounge). That's just my taste. Your wife may love it (as you can see others do on this thread as well!). :)
I'm giving Mandara a whirl at the Dolphin next go 'round. I've been to Mandaras in other locations, and have enjoyed the atmosphere. But, if I were staying at SSR, I'd book at SSR as you can't beat the convenience factor.

Prior to my recent trip to Disneyland, I had only been at the SSR spa. I was very surprised at the difference in atmosphere between SSR and Mandara at the Grand Californian. As stated, SSR is very antiseptic, where Mandara is lush and inviting with all the wood trimmings.
Unfortunately for me, the pedicure I got at Mandara resulted in an infected toe. Two days after the pedicure the toe was inflamed and red. Luckily it didn't affect my walking, but it sure did feel good to take my shoes off at the end of the day. I told the spa people about it and they refunded half the cost of the pedicure. Once the inflammation reduced, I saw a tiny red spot on my toe (where the nail meets the skin), so I guess the nail technician must have accidentally broken the skin.

I loved the massage that I got at SSR. The practitioner was wonderful. I will agree with others that it isn't as cozy a feel as some other spas, but I think they make up for that with good service.

For all of you who used the spa at SSR did you get reservations early or once you arrived? We are headed there in Jan. and my wife wants to use it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bryan,
When are you going in Jan? If it is around marathon weekend or Martin Luther King Jr. day, I'd book now. Otherwise, about a week before is when I book.

We will be there MLK day and a couple days after. Good point on calling now. I assume if I call DVC they can make reservations. Is there any other number that would be helpful?

Nevermind, I was just digging through my paper work from our DVC tour and we picked up a brochure for the spa. We should be set. Thanks for your help.
Don't forget to report back and let us know how she liked it!!!!!

My sister and I both had their signature facials when we were there in May. We both thought it was wonderful and I would highly recommend it!!

I know some of you have mentioned the spa at the Swan/Dolphin resorts. Is there a DVC discount at those spas also? Thanks for all your help.
Bryan,
I have officially volunteered as the guinea pig for the Mandara Spa DVC special. I'm doing it in early January. There's a package called the Sunrise Awakening Ritual. It includes a full-body exfoliation, a 50 min massage and an oxygen facial. It's a 20% discount for DVC members, and the best part is, you don't have to show up at sunrise! :upsidedow
As far as I know, that's the only package with a DVC discount.

I hope you make it through that tough assignment. While researching this subject on the DVC site I did find that there is basically a 10% discount at all of the spas on property. Not a lot but every little bit helps. Seems like the GF has the most options and the highest prices by the way. With all the research I'm doing you would think I would be going to the spa and not the golf course. But the beauty of it is the better time she has at the spa the better time I have playing golf. Funny how that works out.
Here is the link to the page on the site. If not a member you won't be able to get there I bet but most reading this won't have that problem.

Thanks for all of your feedback. Wife got the Mystic River package and loved it. Weird thing happened when I tried to book it. Went in on Monday and asked to book for the next day. They connected me with the reservation center and they only had one slot avaliable at a time that would not work for us. Went in the next day (tuesday, the day we wanted), and they had 7 slots open! What is the deal with that? I cannot imagine that they had 7 cancellations.
Thanks for reporting back!
That is indeed weird about the slot openings day of! :idontgeti

thanks for posting the link to the pricing. This is a possiblity for my upcoming trip and I had been searching for pricing at the spa. Amazing to think that information could be found on an official Disney website. LOL
