Tusker House

I just read on wdwmagic that the Tusker House restaurant will be converting from TS to a character buffet place. :( I personally am not too crazy about this idea, as I really enjoy the Tusker House. It's a simple restaurant, I know, but I have always enjoyed it. The only reason I didn't eat there last week, was they weren't open for EMH so we eat at Flame Tree (which was good too). Website mentioned it wasn't confirmed by Disney, so maybe it's just a rumor.
Anyone else heard this?

We ate at Tusker House during out Sept trip and fell in love with it.

I don't believe Tusker House was ever a TS, only CS. Rainforest was the only TS at AK.

Personally, I'm getting sick of all the charactor meals and their premium price.

But it's typical Disney.

You are correct. I typed TS instead of CS.
But either way, I am bummed, big time.:(

Given how the rumor was reported on WDWMagic, I'm assuming it's under serious consdieration. Usually some poster chimes in to debunk pure speculation, and that didn't happen.

Anyway - I'm not suprised - it's a great space for enhanced food offering than just counter service. My concerns would be food quality and price. Do they have a big enough kitchen, or would the food be catered?

But think about, the only character dining experience there now is Donald's Breakfastasauraus. With a new TS finally open in 2007, I can understand taken the Tusker House location and plussing it up a bit. However, they'll really need another counter service some place in Harambe if they're going to do that. Pizzafari just doesn't cut it as good food in that part of the park and more people eat CS than TS.

If they do this, I hope it's part of a major upgrading of the food offerings, hours, and overall experience of AK.

I too love Tusker House just as it is. First. that entire plaza seems so authentic to me. I really fell they recreated a Nairobi village here.

We use Tusker as an oasis to get out of the heat and enjoy a peaceful respit for a few minutes. The frenetic drumming and dancing outside becomes pleasant background noise inside Tusker. And the dessert & coffee stand - WooHoo! It seems to be one of the few coffee dispensers that doesn't seem to be pouring Nesce-crap, but I'm probably wrong.

To turn this into a character meal spend-athon is a big dissapointment and will be one more reason I don't care for AK as much as TWDC wants me to. Can't they just build another site, maybe down by that unused river launch-ride thing? Oh, yeah, that would involve spending money.

I really do enjoy Tusker House and hope the character meal change does not pan out.
It's definately a very nice upgrade from most of the usual CS places in terms of atmosphere and offerings.

I also have to agree with Dirk about Pizzafari. It's OK for what it is. However, It is fairly empty every time I go there. Maybe Disney should find a way to convert THAT into a character meal instead.

Ok, we ate somewhere last year. I THINK it was Tusker House but I can't be sure. Is there were you can get the 1/2 chicken?? If it was then we really like that place too. I haven't eaten at the other one.

Well I hope that is the case. We love Tusker House, eat there every trip. I love to go sit down in a nice cool place and have lunch. I know flame tree is good too, but I just hate to have to eat outside when I've been outside all day.

You mean like it's just a rumor that they're building DVC at the Contemporary even though the walls are coming down? :Pokepoke: :)

I really, really, really, really hope you're right - but I fear that's just what Disney says until they announce the rumor is true.

We hope they do not touch Tusker House - it has a decent healthy selection, is a great place to get out of the sun and take 10 or even go sit out back and enjoy the landscape. The kids really like it there as well and if it turned into a character circus, it would be a big turn off for us and our view of AK

Change pizzafari and leave Tusker House as is - it fits in great and is one of the best counter service places in all of WDW
