Don't know if anyone is aware of this, but one of the most popular starters at Jiko -the Duck Firecracker- is temporarily off the menu, however is expected to return in the future. The chef who created this wonderful item broken her knee- then via a bizarre circumstance broke a toe - clearly cannot work for an extended period.
In speaking with the restaurant's Executive Chef Anette recently she said this was the most popular starter on thn menu. As a side note, I suggested they bring back the spicey cinnamin beef rolls they had a few years back to 'fill the gap' .
So if you're visiting Jikos in the near term, and you liked this item, do not be disheartened :)
Great news, Convert!!! We were very frustrated that the fantastic Duck and Pork Firecrackers were off the menu during the free dining period....a couple of our daughters have them as main courses. And to be honest, we haven't been back to Jiko since for that reason. To quell the mutiny, the chef nicely came over and said they were getting a "rest." We got the impression from the server that the appetizer was a victim of free dining. No matter; they're coming back and that's all that counts. Can wait to tell the girls.
Thanks, Convert!!John

We don't eat duck (or any meat product for that matter), but I'm very happy to hear they're bringing back a favorite and making the loyal customers happy again.
I'd be super-peeved if they took away the lentil pastilla....we love Jiko!

Duck, chicken, turkey, quail - any bird actually, can hardly be considered "meat". They all taste like frog anyway.
If you can't order it Pittsburg Rare, it ain't real meat.
