View Full Version : So who's got specific plans to book AKLV?

I think I heard that they'll start taking reservations sometime in February. So whose brain is already planning that trip that will include staying at AKLV? Are any Mouseowners planning on coming for the December 2007 Meet and staying at the new AKLV, for example?

Hi,
We would most likely go to AKLV in December!!! We are planning to see the models in May 07

I realize that AKL is a stunning building, but it just doesn't float my boat. I'll stay at AKLV at some point in the future, but I don't have any immediate plans to do that.
Maybe if I get to see the models (either in person or on the DVC Member website) I'll be more enthused.

I'll be kinda surprised if they let non-owners book that early.
With SSR, owners didn't get a full 11 months to book their first trips, but they still gave us 2 months advantage over non-owners to book. If memory serves, SSR owners could begin making reservations around 12/1/03 and non-owners had to wait until 2/1/04. The resort opened in May '04.
Regardless, just bear in mind that all 135 converted rooms may not be available to members right away. DVC doesn't have to put rooms in the member inventory until just before they sell the points. So, if they only sell 30 rooms worth of points by the time they start taking reservations, there will only be 30 rooms available to book. The rest will still belong to Disney and be sold via CRO.
And if they do the fair thing and give AKV owners some booking priority at their new Home, rooms will be really, really difficult to come by for non-members during that period.
We used our first points literally the day after SSR opened. We initially booked BCV as there was nothing available at SSR (first building had 46 rooms). Later changed our dates and got into BWV--still no SSR available.
So, to those who want to stay at AKV in the early months, stay on top of things and be sure to call as early as possible when they open up booking. It's going to be particularly tough to book in those early months.

We will definately be booking there as soon as we can. Of course, alot of our plans depend on how many points we are able to purchase.

I would think that if we booked something there we would wait a little while for them to get things rolling. I know the remodel will be nice (at least I assume) but for us we may wait a year or two until it becomes more of a complete package. We own at SSR and still haven't stayed there yet and probably won't until construction is complete. Just want that finished feeling. But that is us. We'll let the others break AKLV in first.

No rush here, I have 48 years of Disney Vacations ahead of me!
That is what's great about DVC. Every new resort they add is a new adventure for every DVC member to look forward to in the future!

I am going to try it but it probably won't be until 2008 or 2010. With the hype surrounding it I am thinking 2008 would be a good time to knock out the Beach Club or VWL.

I will admit that I am less than siked ...maybe even a tad disappointed that it wasn't the announcement for CRV- But I am sure to be VERY interested when it all starts to comes together! :)

I'll be there with bells on:rockband:
Probably '08 though, as I have everything at least mentally booked for '07. But I will be psyched to stay there:clappingh

We are coming in Dec 07 and have discussed changing from SSR for our second week to AKLV to check out the place.

We're planning a September or fall trip to WDW next year, so we'll try for AKV if there are studios available for the time we need. Dates are a little flexible, so we might make something work out. Otherwise, I'm sure it will happen sometime in 2008.
We love the AKL, so staying in the remodeled rooms won't be a problem for us at all. However, I think the new construction will be like an oasis within an oasis once it's all completed.

We have stayed at AKL on a number of occassions and have always enjoyed and will likely try and stay at AKLV in 08 if all goes well
Has there been a thread on which 5th and 6th floor rooms are being converted and where the addition(s) are going to go in?
Thanks

DVC is building a new building as well as the 5 and 6th floors.
I don't know.
I definitely love animals - and I love to eat at Boma - but for some reason the AKL has never appealed to me.
I don't know why.
maybe once it is part of DVC I will change my mind and love it!:goodnevil

Hmmm... How can anyone have "specific" plans to book at a place we all know next to nothing about? (Unless there are folks out there holding out on the rest of the Mouseowners! )
How many points per room? How many rooms? What day do reservations open? What day did sales begin? How much per point? What year do the contracts expire? Are there hidden Simbas instead of Mickeys?

All very good questions and worthy of consideration once the details are out!
Like the line about the hidden simbas!!! :clappingh

If I would be able to get in, I would like to stay at AKL next October. I missed F&W this year and it is NOT going to happen again.
Pouting commences in 5.... 4.... 3... 2... 1...

Actually, there is a hidden Simba:

It took us by surprise one day, when we suddenly noticed the vents for eyes and the bulge for the nose.

DS is a huge animal fan - and huge fan of AK - so as soon as we get specifics, and know when we're going again - I'm sure we'll try it out. My worry is that it'll be way too many points for us to use for a full stay. In that case - we'd either just stay a couple of nights, or go into a studio....

AFMom. I think it's a great "destination resort". Last month I stayed there just for one night, in my mind, before I started my WDW vacation. I never left the resort, did several of the listed activities (including this evening storyteller). I even used the workout room!

We very much want to stay there. Our DS loves AK and would just be fit to be tied if we could stay so close! I've been wanting more points and not real interested in CRV, so I'm thrilled of this addition! And Dh even agreed to let us buy into AKV- so yippee! As of now, we are planning to skip 2007 since we've borrowed so many of our points for that year. So, looks like it will be 2008 before we get there. But, I'll have to make it early 2008!

Well, let's see. We're doing BWV this Thxgiving, then BWV and VB in February, the Disneyland in August 2007, that puts us at February or April vacation 2008.
I'll be calling in right at the 7 months mark for those and waitlisting if needed (so when would that be ... um, July 2007 for those calls?). My family Loves, Loves, Loves AKL, and our one drawback from our past stays there has been that we didn't spend more time at the resort. We won't be making that mistake again.

 I am impressed at how far out your trips are planned. I am suffering from "no trip coming up withdrawal." and it is miserable. I am really jealous that you have so much to look forward to. Have a great time on ALL of your trips.

I love the AKL too. I am not planning wdw in 2007, but I might have to book a day or two after my cruise in Dec 07 just to try it out.
