I know the Flying Dutchman is moored at Castaway Cay. Are guests actually allowed on board the ship? Can you only get to it if you're swimming in the area? Or is it off limits (except for pictures from a distance)?

It's basically off limits, as it's not been outfitted (safety wise) for guest access.

there is an excursion that you pay for that will take you on a small boat ride right along side of it, or very close. sorry i cant remember the excursion off hand, but if you research castaway excursions on the DCL site you will find it. :Pumpkin:

Only the personal watercraft and/or eco tours will permit this -- and again the "ship" itself is off limits :)
edited to add: I understand the banana boat rides may also make a pass by it.

Does anyone know how long it will be at CC? I heard in the beginning that it was only temporary but I can't find when, or if, they plan on taking it away.
Thanks
