Doug was channel surfing and found a show last night on the Travel Channel about cruises. He thought he'd watch it to get an idea of what to expect.

What a mistake!!!

The show talked about all the things that can go wrong on a cruise. One woman was drugged by a cruise employee and raped. One family lost their son on the cruise. They bought him the cruise passage as a college graduation gift and one night he just disappeared. The family called the FBI, but after a brief investigation the FBI said he probably fell overboard. Another story talked about a cruise where 200 passengers fell ill (stomach virus) and were confined to their rooms. There were a couple other stories, but I don't recall the details.

The show is part of their new Travel Advisory series (http://travel.discovery.com/tvlistings/episode.jsp?episode=0&cpi=118858&gid=0&channel=TRV). It will repeat on October 8th at 2:00 am (Eastern time).

Yeah, I stay away from those shows, though curiousity usually gets me to watch.

I also like the shows that tell you how dangerous it is to spend time in on-line forums and chat rooms and eventually meet-up with those people on the other end of the monitor.

This is a sad sensationalism show...most people 99.9999% have a wonderful time.

If they did show on your hometown...you would be shocked at what they report!

My family swears I am going to get wacked all the time meeting up with all my online friends. I always say, whoever spends 5 figures on Disney cannot be all that bad LOL! :)

I've seen those cruise shows. The thing that scares me the most is the Norwalk virus. Other than that, I don't plan on hooking up with anyone else than my DH, or drinking till I pass out in the corner. I at least have the sense to stumble back to my room!! :bagovermy

Just got to wash your hands (and have a crew that takes a ton of other precautions). That is scary, though.

Errrrr......."yeah"....I'm make sure to program the Teevo!....NOT! :innocent: :lmbo:

Sorry...but if the same producers made a show on what's the worst thing that could happen to you if you used the restroom...or went to church...I'd skip those shows too!

We noticed a lot of stories before and after our cruise about people getting drunk and falling overboard. There was also a fascinating thread on another board about whether the Magic and Wonder had a brig and a morgue. Consensus was they were required to have a morgue, and Mickey definitely had ways to confine people. Bottom line, it's a closed community with over 3,000 people. Things can happen. People have heart attacks, a depressed person uses the cruise as an opportunity to try to commit suicide, domestic violence happens, etc. However, almost all the reported problems are on other cruise lines.

I can say I saw absolutely no probelm behavior on our 7 day cruise. It helps that there is a family atmosphere and no casino, I think - which discourages massive drinking and partying.

Also, the Disney crews take cleanliness to an amazing level. Even during rough seas on the first night, ther bathrooms were spotless despite many passanger attempts otherwise. Crew members were standing by keeping things constantly clean. You also don't get anywhere near food items without being a given a disinfectant hand wipe. Somehwhere (I think through CruiseCritic.com), you can get cruise ship inspection ratings. I think the Magic and Wonder top out at about 98%. That was even better than the QE2 when I looked (95%, I think).l

Cruise Critic is an interesting website. I sent the link to my friend who cruises a lot.
