Hi,

Well I saw 3 people today. Which is a good sign. I should hear something in a week & a half. Here's the problem:

In order to get to the 2nd & 3rd person I had to say I'd move my November trip!! :crymeariv :crymeariv They would not even consider me. even though I'd be theirs after that. The 1st lady wanted to but the manger said, no training & holidays etc. So what to do if I get the job? Cancel & move to when? I don't really know what to do! I want the job though so.....?? Any suggestions would be helpful!

It also sounds like I'll be working alittle everyday for now. Which is fine. Really nice people. Well see! More Pixie Dust & suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,

Welcome to the real world. ;) It'll be hard to decide until you know how much vacation time and when are times you can vacation. What a bummer! Does this put you into a points crisis? MAybe during round 2 you can ask when I good time to tak eyour vacation is? :idontgeti

Good luck!!! :dust

Carrie,

Yes I know! I didn't think it would be such a HUGH deal that the mangers would even see me or anyone if I wasn't available all through the holiday season. Oh well, @ least I still have some time to cancel. That's the good thing about DVC!!! I don't think it will put me into point crisis. I hope not. ??

With the holidays coming and it being a new store with a grand opening possibly around that time, it's probably just a horrible timing issue. If you weren't in retail, it might not be such a big deal. If it's where you want to work, though, I would nto pass up teh opportunity.

Usually unless an employee is ACTIVELY trying to recruit you - your previous vacation plans mean nothing to them. Especially in retail at the holidays. That is when they'll need you the most. If you want the job - you'll have to move the vacation. I would like to add as well - that in any retail job - you will be working a lot during the holidays, and vacation requests will be frowned upon - and probably not approved. So next year you won't be going in November either.

Tell them you need to be in WDW for religious reasons.

Not just vacations but any days of the week too. I said I wasn't available on Sundays & that was frowned too. I said I could @ least work there mornings. They said they want everyone to work some each day. I hope I don't turn into a slave!! :( We'll see what happens.

Thanks!

Hi,

Tell me if something isn't wrong here. I got one of those letters in mail TODAY that said we don't have a position available but will keep your application on file for a year. No references were called & they SAID it would be @ least week before I heard. Either I get brushed off or I don't hear @ all. I am calling resources down @ my college next week. They go on Fall Break tomorrow. Any job suggestions are welcome. I HOPE that my disability isn't to blame! They can't do that by law! I would like bookstores, schools, the disny store (have an application), something interesting. I am NOT a suit and breifcase girl.

Thanks for letting me rant. I need WDW right now!

On the bright side, you won't have to cancel your WDW trip.

Sorry it didn't work out, though. I would like to think people are smart enough these days to knwo it would be a PR nitghmare, let alone just wrong, if they did hold your disability against you. Something will come. :dust

MsSparrow  I'm so sorry you didn't get the job!! I remember too well the stress of finding a job after graduating from college. It sounds like you would have been a good fit for B&N...definately their loss! I'm not sure about your disability and I truly hope they did not take that into account! I really hope something better is right around the corner!! :goodvibes

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that your disability had anything to do with them not hiring you. Many companies - especially those with major public exposure - will jump at the chance to hire a handicapped person for either PC reasons or to fill a required quota.

The manager probably just doesn't like Jonnie Deppppp

Awwww nuts! I was hoping that you might find a good fit there. Keep trying. Retail can have some great benefits when you are first starting out but one of the worst is the hours and expected availability.

Have you checked with the local libraries and school systems? that might be a great position for you if you like books :)

We will keep sending good thoughts and pixie dust your way and hope something good comes soon!

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the job. But happy that you don't have to cancel your November trip. Here in high country, we are in 'off season' until just before Thanksgiving, so an early November trip...even for those in retail...would probably have been fine.

But if you decide retail is for you, then for sure you will be working most holidays and especially the 'Xmas Season'.

I think it would be fine for you to call and ASK why you weren't hired...telling them you are trying to learn what your weaknesses are as you intend to work in this field. After they tell you blah, then you can add (I suggest sweetly and non aggressively) that you were concerned that it might be because of your disability.....long pause. That will at least put them on notice, IF the disability had anything to do with it.

On the other hand, once you return from Disney in November, I would think that retailers will be desperate for help. Even if they say it is only work for the Holidays, if you show them how good your are, it might turn into long term AND you'll still get that Disney vacation!

Good Luck Allison!
