DS came home from school yesterday off the bus to tell me he was sent to the principals office-
He told me that he was really nervous as he thought he did something wrong- ends up that a 5th grade boy decided to tell my 1st grade son that he is going to punch him in the head! The school office called my ds in to get the details-
I of course called the school first thing this am as I never received a call about it yesterday-
All they can tell me is that there was a 'threat" made to my son and it will be handled- sorry that is all that we can tell you-
Will not give me details of what happened, how this is to be handled, who this kid is ect....
DS tells me that he thinks he was mad at him because of bus seating-
I am LIVID! I am glad that ds told me but why not a phone call from school...????

I swear, it wasn't me. I never threatened a 1st grader.
Well.... at least not when I was in 5th grade.

*hug* Laura, I would be madder than fire as well. I do know that sadly, they won't give you more details because they don't want a rogue parent attacking a child at the bus stop or going to that child's house. As a parently myself, I think you have a right to know to call that child's parents and discuss it. I am sure that his parents have been called though becauase the bullying behavior isn't tollerated at all anymore. I realize you wouldn't attack the child or do something inappropriate, but so many people are just out of control these days.
How is your son feeling about it? Did he seemed frightened to ride the bus today? I would call the school back and make sure that the busdriver KNOWS what happened (although they probably are the one that reported it) and can watch out for this kid even if they won't give you details. In our area, that one little threat would probably have gotten him a week at home. I am not sure what they will do to him in yours, but I am sure it won't be just a slap on the wrist.
I hope your son is fine. Good luck.

I do understand why they wont give out the childs name but why they cant discuss the details with me and call me is what is getting me- If my son did not tell me I would have never known and that also bothers me-ALOT! Thank goodness he did tell me and not feel or was told "not to say anything or there could be more trouble"-
He was not hesitant to get on the bus - I was probably more hesitant than he was!
I guess I have had my head stuck in the sand- I dont remember my older girls have any issues with bullys- maybe its because they are girls...I dont know-
 laura for your always wise words of wisdom! :)

 Laura, I too would have been quite mad if I found out my DS was in the school office being questioned for any reason, especially something like bullying, and they didn't call me to let me know. I hope everything works out. Fortunately or not, the bully will probably move on to other victims now.
We have a terror in DS's grade that all the parents dread. You know it's bad when the moms get together before school starts to find out who has him in their kid's class! Since our school has a zero fighting policy, or something like that LOL, the kids he has gone after have also been punished for fighting back! Last year, he kicked another boy so hard he needed to go to the ER. Bully was suspended for 3 days, bullied kid was suspended for 1 for hitting him back :sosad: He's also threatened other kids saying he's going to bring his father's gun to school and blow their heads off! This is a SECOND grader! The kid has had a pretty bad life so far and I do feel for him but at the same time I'm already picturing him on the cover of the newspaper someday. Fortunately, my own DS has not had any serious encounters with him yet....knock wood, cross fingers, press thumbs....etc!

My DS was bullied by a 4th grader when he was in 1st numerous times - I told him to tell the teacher when it happened again. If the teacher didn't stop the kid - then he had my permission to beat the living ________ out of that 4th grader to the best of his ablilities! He was so afraid of getting in trouble! I told him his dad and I would go with him to the principal's office!
The problem I'm seeing is that the teachers, bus drivers, principals are so over stretched - they aren't keeping track of who's doing waht like they used to.
Punishing the kid that fights back is not right, especially if they keep letting the bully back in the school! They are setting up a bad situation for the other kids. I guess the only way for parents to handle it is to just stand behind their kids.
ARG!

Thanks Stimpy and AFMom for sharing your experiences- Ugghh... It is just so frustrating and your heart breaks for your child when they feel hurt. Kids can be soooo mean! All went well today- The "meanie" bully was on the bus today but didnt say a word to him- phew! :)
Thanks again and
