For my March trip, one of the nights is a Saturday night booked in a 2 bedroom. I was debating on paying cash for that night or using points.

If I use points, that is 73 points for that night. If I can get the member discount, it'll be $562 (including tax) plus the charges for extra adults. I'm thinking for the effort, etc. I should just use the points.

What do you all think?

yeowww that cash price looks high. Is it Easter when you're going? We switch to cash a lot for weekend nights, but only when we can get a member discount. There's no right or wrong on this one. My advice would be to lean toward paying cash if you can get a member discount and you think you can better use the points. If you've got plenty of points around (seems like we either have tons) use them.
Hope this helps

On Allears, the rack rate for a 2BR during peak season (2/16-4/22) is $720. By taking the 25% off and then adding taxes in is how I got my earlier figure.

I was kind of thinking that the savings just wouldn't be enough to justify it. Could I use the extra points for another trip? Well, of course. One can never have too many points. =)

Or you could rent the points at 12 bucks a point and pay for your room and a few margaritas :margarita and maintenance fees!!!!!:D

Do you know if you can even get the 2BR rate? I didn't catch which resort you're aiming for, but I have had mixed ability to get the discount. At BCV one summer ,I could get a studio, and a 1 br, but NOT a 2BR! And that was calling at 12 mos... then 11 mos.. and every month thereafter, and even the day day before, haha!! COuldn't get it at HHI one time, either. So you may find Disney will make your decision for you, if there's no 2BR available for DVC cash discount.

We did the cash option for the 1st night (a Sat night) of our last stay over at OKW... it did save us some points, and only drawback was that the front desk claimed we could NOT "pick and choose" where we wanted to be, LOL, because we were a mixed ressie (i.e. part pts, part cash). I still think that might have been a half-truth, as others have claimed to do the same thing and got to choose - it wasn't a big deal, we were fine where we ended up, so no biggie, and I'd be interested to know if others have been told this recently, or if my CM was just misinformed...

I decided to just suck it up and spend the points for the night. By renting out the points, I just wouldn't gain enough for it to be worth the effort. Sometimes, simple and easy is the best way to go.

Sometimes, simple and easy is the best way to go.That's what I'd do - renting can sometimes be more work than it's worth (unless you can find another member who would take them in a transfer).

When I don't want to rent and can't/won't be traveling again soon, I just value my points at the dues they cost. (I consider the buy in as a sunk cost). That makes the cash rate (even with the member discount) look a lot more expensive than just using points! And I feel good about using my points!

Works for me, LOL!

That's what i'd do, too. If it seemed like it would be a huge savings, perhaps it would be worth the effort. But it might just be easier to use points in this case.

Perhaps if you are short on points in the future, you can get a good cash rate for a short stay. I've gotten studios on cash for about $220 after taxes and 1BRs for about $310.
