This is from mouseplanet

A recent rumor that we've heard states that days are numbered for the entire lake side of Pleasure Island. Last week, we reported that "major enhancements" would be cause the end of the nightly fireworks at Pleasure Island and demolition of the West End Stage and Hub Stage. It turns out that there is more to the story.

The story, as we heard it, is that attendance has been down so badly at the Pleasure Island clubs that, even with extending Cast Member nights to five nights per week, they were still having trouble getting people into the clubs. Because of this, everything on the lake side of Pleasure Island will be demolished, and the area will be repopulated by contracted restaurants. Contracted restaurants have been the biggest money maker for Disney in the Downtown Disney area.

The rumor gives some time in early 2006 as the target date for the closure of the clubs and the beginning of the demolition. Should the rumor prove out, the only clubs to remain would be Mannequins, 8-Trax and the Comedy Warehouse. The rumor also states that another restaurant will be built at the far west end of Downtown Disney, between Cirque du Soleil and the Saratoga Springs Resort.

I wonder if this has to do with the kids being able to roam through there now. It turned a lot of people off when they changed it from 18+ only to enter. Have they taken their business elsewhere.

Hubby and I will have to go this next trip!

Very interesting!
I guess I wouldn't mind terribly since the only clubs I go to are Mannequins and 8Trax anyway, once in a while The Comedy Warehouse.
Kind of a shane though, it used to be so popular.

I don't recall it ever being 18+ to enter...at least not in recent years. I'm assuming you are referring to the recent changes where admission is no longer required except for a couple of the clubs. Even before that, minors were still permitted in most (but not all) areas of PI.

Still I'm guessing that this non-gated approach did lead to more minors in the area.

If this article is accurate, it sounds like Disney has determined they can make more money leasing out the space to independent vendors (i.e. Raglan Road) than they can charging admission and running all of the clubs themselves.

Honestly, PI was always something that DW and I said "we gotta get over there sometime", but never did. We did go there for one evening during our honeymoon trip about 8 years ago, but we lasted maybe an hour before retreating to the Marketplace.

I have never been but maybe I think it is that non-gated thing they did away with recently.

I always too said we will get there someday. One of the intriguing reasons why we bought SSR so when the kids got older we could do a few of the clubs and be close to "home".

Looks like I will have to see if we can make our breakfast later at Ohana for Thursday so we can go to the clubs Wed night!

They did used to have more stores over there, but the Marketplace was smaller then. I did want to try Adventurer's club this next trip, though. Hope they don't start tearing down too early in 06.

My inlaws are going to be dissapointed they love the adventurers club they would go there every night while we are at WDW. I loved 8 Trax and Mannequins so I am glad they are staying.

The best clubs will still be there.

Well, just bear in mind that this is only a rumor, and with only a single (anonymous to us) source. But it does sound like this would be a good time to support the Adventurer's Club.

Our last trip in aug. we finally made it to the house of blues to eat and on the outside rapped around the building there were mobs of people waiting for a concert. The waitress said they have concerts all the time and pack them in at PI. I wonder if PI will be geared towards more concerts and less clubs.

Dont forget we still have the dueling pianos and the dance club at the BW. :goodvibes
