CB! I was 1000..... no prize, though...
Well - ya'll remember my friends DH with the ruptured appendix? Well - he's never really recoverred. He has another abcess - in between his liver and his lungs. They're operating on him again today. Third proceedure he's had to have now.:headbange Poor guy. He's so miserable. His DW is stressed out completely now. Heading over there to babysit again in about 20 minutes.
That's it here. We're almost ready to pour the foundation of our addition! Hoping to get it done before DH leaves. The footings got done a few days ago. He's been working non-stop out there for 2 weeks now. It actually looks like we're adding on now. Very ugly! We have a huge trench through our driveway right now so that he could tap into the sewer line. Hopefully the trench will get filled in with new concrete soon.
That's it here. Happy Friday to you all!:kickingco

awww AFMOM - your friends need a break!!! Also remodeling in any fashion is MUCH worse than hitting your hand with a hammer once an hour for a week straight!!! Hubby and I bought a HUD house many many years ago and totally remodeled it (mostly by ourselves). It was pretty amazing that he didn't end up the foundation before it was all over :upsidedow but the up side is our little bitty mortage has made it possible for those DVC points!!! So, all is well that ends well. Hope your addition goes well too!

Woohoo CB - :kickingco You go girl!

Who would have thought we could have 2000 posts about nothing???

SCAB everyone!

LLLovell...I was thinking the exact same thing AFCmama's friend needs a break.....
there is too much of a mess in what is going on with him..maybe there is a missing sponge left inside causing all the problems. Pixie dust his way!

Having build 5 houses and now trying to rebuild this one after years of deferred maintenance: well, you can end up making a lot of money (or DVC points), but you can also end up HATING your spouse!!!!!! It is really tough to live in a house while doing an addition. I had the building inspectors (by court order) over here the last two days. Was concerned that they were so caught up in how well built the house WAS, that they wouldn't see all the damage that needs to be corrected before it sells. But I worried for naught. The inspector came up with @$300,000 to fix it up, and I guessed about that much too, so I think we are on the same page. Hoping that I can 'borrow' enough from the new roofing, decking, heating system, kitchen applicances, new floors to add some 'updating' touches to help it bring in the best price....well actually, i am hoping the appeals court decides taht I deserve to KEEP this house (X has two , I have none...go figure) plus it will be all new and pretty. But shhhhhh, don't tell!

jnrrt: hope little one has turned the corner today and is all smiles again. HOw it hurts when our babies don't feel well!

YAHOWIE! I somehow snagged that 2000 post without even trying!!!! Must be my right living (HA).

Thinking about my trip to Puerto Vallarta March 15. I have to dig out summer clothes. THen I have to fit into summer cloths. THis is gonna be hard!

Well, we 've had lots of nothings going on here. Here's to a 1000 more!

O.K., so you guys remember me taking my Momma to the airport and shoving the TSA person and Momma getting interrogated on the plane after I left?

Well, that same poor Momma, you won't believe what happened to her yesterday. As I mentioned before, we moved her into assisted living in Florida in September. Since then she has been sick and in the hospital in Florida or up here visiting or spending time in the hospital or rehab here from falling down the stairs. She finally gets home and starts settling into somewhat of a routine.

Well, we are trying to convince her to stop driving, :holymoly: and she has basically agreed to sell her car. So on Friday, she rides the shuttle provided by the assisted living place, kind of like one of those car rental shuttles, to go to WalMart to get some things that they don't provide and snacks, etc. that she likes to keep in her little apt.

So, they get ready for the trip home. She is the last one on the shuttle. She takes her seat and the driver helps to put her purchases in the overhead storage. As Momma is sitting down, out of one of the bags falls a gallon jug of cranberry juice and hits momma right on the head

They called me to tell me what had happened and to say that Momma didn't want to go to the hospital. I convinced her to go, better safe than sorry, so she was in the ER for about 3 hours. The did a head scan and also put some dye in her eye and checked it to make sure it wasn't scratched. The bottle hit her on her left temple, right near her eye.

There is nothing broken and she is o.k. today and sounding not quite as shook up as she did last night. The left side of her face is very tender, and I bet it will bruise up nicely. The Dr. that saw her said she was very lucky the bottle did not chip any of those thin bones around the eye area.

The accident did bend her glasses, the ones she just got at Christmastime, so she is going to have to get those adjusted, but things could have been a lot worse.

I have to tell you, I never knew that having elderly parents could be such a challenge. I worry about her more than I do my 23 year-old son.

Oh man, Rwe, that is really worrisome!!! I am glad she was not hurt worse! I think you are finding this much harder because she doesn't live in the same town as you. I wish y'all lived closer to one another:grouphug:

I talked to Mom again last night and she got her glasses straightened at Lenscrafters. She still isn't seeing well out of her left eye, but they told her that her eye is swollen and that it needs to go back down before they change anything on her glasses. Since she is legally blind in her right eye, she needs this left eye.

jnrrt, hope your son improve's quickly. It's miserable when our kids are not well.

Rozzie, AFMom, I have always wanted to try the melting pot, but never have. I don't get over that way very often. We usually eat at McGuire's if we are over that way. I would love a meet, it would be fun. I could only imagine DH's expression when I tell him I having lunch with 3 people I met on the internet!:jawdroppi He made such fun of me when we went on the cruise back in Sept. We cruised with friends from Birmingham. Both of us "girls" had posted on the cruise post and made several "friends" before we got on the ship. DH and my friends husband kept making fun of us when we met up with our "new" friends. Oh well, I'll risk it, just pick a date and time, and I will get a babysitter!

I can share my experience with actually meeting up with folks from the internet.

About 7 years ago when Disney was doing Magical Delivery (there were pins and coupons and stuff), I had a couple of extra coupons for free mini-golf at Winter Summerland. I posted on the DIS Boards that they were available to the first person that asked for them. I had a taker right away. When she provided a mailing address, we realized that she was fairly close by. We stayed in touch on-line for a while and after a while decided that we might should meet in person. Her family was just aghast. Her high school kids really were upset that their Mom was going to do something she had always told them not to do. :holymoly:

We agreed to meet in a very public place, our local Disney Store at the mall. So we arranged our meeting. When she got there, her high school daugher came with her to make sure I wasn't someone who would bop her on the head and throw her in my trunk or something worse. :Pokepoke: :Pokepoke: We went to the food court and visited and shared Disney experiences for a couple of hours. We stayed in touch on-line and then started meeting for lunch.

About a year later we took a long weekend trip to WDW and had a blast. Then when my son's girlfried dumped him right before prom, her pretty daughter offered to go with him and they had a grand time. We have met for dinner and brought our hubbies and included each other in events like high school graduations and so forth.

We now meet for lunch about once a week and try to keep each other up to date on all things that we learn that may help each other in planning disney trips and we laugh and cry over life's twists and turns and the ups and downs in our family lives.

So, you gals need to go for a meet. You never know what may come out of this. You already have one big thing in common, Disney, and will probably find many other things to laugh and talk about. I encourage to meet and have a :birhdaypa

Rozzie

Call it denial, but I have always been willing to meet up with anyone from a Disney related board. Everyone DH and I have met up with has been a lot of fun, except nono, and she was a downright BLAST!:D

I have discovered friends near me also. I always am tickled to find another mickey crack addict in our town.

DH and I have a theory, anyone who has a true love of Disney, and is willing to pluck down 5 figures for a disney lovers club, can not be a bad person. DH really has gotten to the place where one of his favorite parts is meeting up with other people, and discovering we are not alone in the universe of our obsession.

Our family? They just roll their eyes, they all ready know we have lost our mind. They go along their merry way, flaming our Disney spending habits, and whispering about the "cult" we belong to! :D

Rwe, hope your mom gets to feeling better! What bad luck! Hopefully her eye edema will only last a day or two, and she'll back to seeing better very soon!

I'm so bad - I'd probably meet any of you in a dark alley by myself.
I really just get good vibes here. Of course - having said that, we'll get a new poster waiting for me to go down a dark alley.......:bugeyed: :hahahaha:
I have soooooo wanted to meet you guys! It would be nice to meet someone else in person who can relate to our DVC thing without looking at us like we're crazy. The exact words of my neighbor were "You have what? Boy - they saw you coming from a mile away, didn't they?".
And we get frowns from our in-laws (I'm hoping to change that when we take them in Dec.....). In laws are the type to find the CHEAPEST hotel and stay there even if they have a miserable night's sleep because of it. We used to do that - but I finally insisted on no more Motel 6's after we'd been driving for 10 hours!
I don't think I know anyone not in cyberspace who doesn't think we're  .
It's Sunday. That means tomorrow is Monday again. If Tony we're hanging around he'd remind me that we came to the conclusion that time is going in a big loop. It all makes more sense that way:yo-yo:

Kristi, the next time I fly down to see my Mom and if time permits, maybe we can meet?

I am used to her living in Ft. Walton Beach and having her car at my disposal, so the next time I come will be to Shalimar, which I am not totally familiar with and I will probably rent a car. But maybe we could work something out. I have no idea when it will be or for how long. If it is an emerency visit, that's another story, too. Getting flights into that area from here is always a challenge, too.

But, I can promise you it won't be down a dark ally that we would meet.

RWTY - that sounds great! As you know - we have great beaches here.... and that Melting Pot...............
I'm waiting for my manicotti to cook.... it's already 6:26 and we're all starving here. Got another 25 minutes in the oven. Those Girl Scout cookies are looking mighty fine right about now!
Must resist!!!!!
Day started off lazy - but I ended up getting a lot done.
I'm in charge of a den campout next weekend - both of my son's cub scout dens will be soming. So I've spent most of the last 2 days getting that organized. I love doing it - but it'd be really nice if people would actually e-mail me back.
I guess they don't spend as much time on the computer as me!
I am sooooooo hungry!

Watching now, as I am guessing you are as well. I thought the opening with characters from a lot of older famous movies was very neat.

Chronicles of Narnia just won for makeup. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I enjoyed Dolly Partin singing Travelin

Hope it gets a little more exciting. So far the orchestra has certainly overshadowed the acceptance speeches.

The beaches there are lovely. They are even more beautiful in the winter, I think. And I love going to the outlets down towards SanDestin.

If you get to the Harry and David outlet, pick up some of the Pepper and Onion Relish. You mix it with cream cheese and it makes the best dip you have ever eaten in your life. It is not something I would normally try or taste, but when Momma was in a rehab down in Destin, I stopped in there one day to pick up a thank you gift for the nurses. I had not eaten and they had this stuff out to sample, I downed about half the bowl right on the spot. If I had read the ingredients on the jar, I would not have ever picked it up, just not normally my kind of thing. I ended up buying a case to bring home. It is best served with the Tostitos Gold (thick) chips. So, next time you are down that way, check it out.

I'll second that... I also love just about every one of their salsas. A friend of mine made a REALLY cool gift for her FIL - he is one of those people who doesn't NEED anything, so whaddya do? So one year for xmas, she scoured around and bought 12 very different types of salsa and also very different chips to go with it. She boxed it all up nicely and gave it to him for xmas as a "salsa of the month" gift, with directions on which salsa/chips went together for what month. Pretty cool - I'm thinking about doing that for lots of people on my gift list this year! Plus .... it means I get to SAMPLE lots of salsa while I'm "shopping", right? Bet you could do a "dip" of the month gift too - and included that H&D Pepper Onion stuff! MAybe put in different crackers / chips etc to go with it. Yummm.

I frequent the H&D outlet in Rehoboth Beach DE - no sales tax! I bought my teacher gifts there after xmas - the cutest little sets of speaders with handles with breads and bagels on them, and these little "butcher blocks" they go in. Gonna give those to the teachers with a $5 certificate to our WONDERFUL local bakery / coffee house. They make awesome bagels there.

Wish I had one now. **sigh***:loveisint

I am drinking very yuckee coffee right now (experimented with too many flavors - some things SOUND better than they taste, LOL!) But I need the caffiene, so here I sit sipping my less-than-savory brew....

How was the wkend, folks? I went to Pittsburgh w/ my middle son on a scout trip - yowza. The bus arrived late, then, about 20 minutes into the 3 hour ride, a kid had a seizure - a BIG one, grand mal. They called in an ambulance, and while the pack master and some other parents sat with the boy, trying to keep him awake but calm... his mother left the bus! :holymoly: Said she couldn't "deal with it." Helllloooo?!?!? They asked her if he had ever had one before - she said no, never. Later when they called her to see how he was doing at the hosptial - she admitted, "Actually, he has had one before, about a month ago, but his dad forgot to tell me." Uh, 'scuse me, but a GRAND MAL SEIZURE IN A 6 YEAR OLD, AND HE "FORGOT" TO TELL HER? Poor kid. No news yet on what the cause was - they were going to keep him overnight at the hospital for observation.

Pittsburgh was great (went to several museums - nat. history /art, science) - It was so wonderful spending time with my middle child - just the two of us. He is just such a happy, thoughtful kid - he was getting me drink refills at lunch, took my tray and cleaned the table, and just so excited to be out and about (a very very social lil gopher) and to have my attention to himself. I told DH - we have GOTTA do this with EACH of our 3 MUCH more often. It's so hard to schedule something like that - but so, so beneficial.

MEANWHILE - DS11 and his buddy won 1st place @ the social studies fair at their school so they are going on to the county level. (Topic: 1st 30 yrs of US AViation). I am going to try to take them over to the USAF museum in DAyton - I need to check in on my SIL too so it will be a good trip for all, hopefully (my brother got deployed in Jan for 4-6 mos, she's there with the 3 kids) AFMom, have you guys ever been there? My brother kept telling me to c'mon over all last year, we never did.... and now we're going when he ISN'T even there - go figure. But I know the boys would get so much out of it, after studying so hard, and they are excited to see the planes and such (and their cousins...)

Well, gotta scram for now. Bad coffee and lots and lots and lots of work await. Mondays - ugh. :headbange

Hi all! Good Monday morning to everyone. RWEthereyet- great meet story! I'm really not that worried about it. It was just funny on the cruise. Several of us had posted pics of ourselves, so as we were standing in line to board the boat, my friend and I were "locating" all of our online friends. We all ended up seated next to each other at dinner and really had some fun. My kids had some instant friends. A few of us had traded emails and our girls emailed each other back and forth. I think it was really good for them. DH even had some good conversation with a couple of the "guys" from the boards. He and my friends husband kept kidding us about all our "phone sex" friends:hahahaha: Rozzie and AFMom sound pretty normal to me! Neither one showed up as a sex offender when I checked the map!:hahahaha: :Pokepoke:

Mornin' all.

Such a fine weekend by us, whole lots of nothing!

We took a few long hikes, one in Valley Forge National Park, which we love.

Took DS to WalMart to stock up his tackle box for our trip to HHI in

19 Days!

And both kids went to a BDay party on Sunday, where one dopey boy managed to guzzle two quarts of water as the other butt-head boys laughed and egged him on, until it all came rushing back up just missing the cake and pizza! :holymoly:

Thankfully our kids were not in the room at the time.

Other than that a pretty quiet weekend.

P.S. did I mention I'm going to my happy place soon?

Just want to say 'happy Monday'! I haven't been around much (well, I did peek in once or twice anonymously....)

Stimpy, your note about your son brought me to tears - glad that he got a little smile from WDW. And Tony made me laugh as always. And JiggerJ brought me back here wondering where I was!

Had a REALLY yucky last few weeks - the last project was just full of nasty things; got home late last week and my father is in hospital again with unknown ailment; trying to help out my mother before I leave again tomorrow (she's deaf, lipreads but English is her 2nd language); and to top it off I fell down a flight a stairs over the weekend! Luckily I have some extra padding on me but I have a sore elbow and knee, and a very large bruise and lump on my well padded rear. Not looking forward to flying over 9 hours tomorrow!!!!!

Hoping to find out more about my father today. And my friends who went to WDW with me in Dec are planning a March trip for me after my next project ends - to the Grand Canyon. I want to see it, but you know what's in the back of my mind - my current AP runs out mid-April so it woudl be a prudent financial decision to make one last use of it.... :sosad:

Sorry to be a downer - didn't want to come and spread any gloom here. But at least things will turn upwards soon (or as they say at DL 'into every life a little rain must fall')

Me and the three little ones, best friend, her hubby and little girl and best friend's mother in law! I have warned them I will need some "ride" help at the parks from time to time, but it seems that the M-i-L has eyes on keeping PJ for a bit :) so I can ride things with the boys! Works for me! WEeee! (kinda seems like a lot of people to be knocking around in a GV for those days - will be nice to have lots of space!!!) I am sure I will be glad when hubby gets there! We are also doing a fireworks cruise on this trip!!! I cant wait!

Bavaria - I am glad you checked in and sorry to hear that things are not going smoothly for you right now either! *hug* you know we are always here to listen and help in any and all ways we can. Hang in there!

Counting down with TW1!!! :jumpingbe How long is your trip to HHI TW1? I bet it will be amazing! The boys wanted in that water SOOOO bad when we were there before (enough so that we swam with somewhat chattering teeth in the main pool lol).

Erin - Happy Birthday to your youngest!!! I wanted to CRY when Richard turned 3...and then we went and started over again with lil Miss PJ. When it comes time for annual passes when she turns 3, we might have to take out a 2nd mortgage!!! ack! I do hope the birthday celebration is fantastic!!

Gerkin!
It's in the San-Destin area outlets! I'm not that familiar with what all they have, I think it was near the Saucony outlet,..... and maybe the Harry and David..... can't remember - it's been a few months.
I can't keep up with ya'll today!
Lion King - I sooooo want to see that. I hope it comes locally at some point - sometimes thigs come to Birmingham - that's only about 3.5 hours away for us....

Oh my...so much happed over the weekend to everyone. gerkin

I didnt' do anything except watch the Oscars and I am still on 'avoidance mode' today. gerkingerkin

I HAVE to get busy! gerkin

Bavaria...you do know that it is safer, if not quicker, to WALK down the stairs instead of roll, dontcha?

I was pretty exited about the academy awards. I liked that Clooney stood up and said "well I guess this means I didnt' win for best director' LOL.
And all along I was hoping that Crash woud win Best Pic!
I liked Brokeback, but it just wasn't best picture of the year to me.
The only one I didn't get was best song....and I sometimes like rap..it's just I didnt' like this particular rap, tho the title made me laugh. Guess I might have felt dif if I had seen Hustle and Flow.
I felt bad for Joaquin cause he was a GREAT Johnny CAsh. But it is like last year when Jamie Fox HAD to win for RAy event tho whatshisface was so good as H. Hughes. ...ohoh I am slipping on names now...gotta go take a brain pill!

I will be in Sandestin Wednesday thru Friday afternoon for a company meeting and award. What other outlets should I check out and what is the name of the outlet? Is it Silver Sands?

Good morning, y'all!:howudoin:

Silver Sands is nice, and there is a fairly new one closer to Destin that has a Hard Rock Cafe and some nice shops. If you are driving from Alabama over to SanDestin on Highway 98, I think it is, you will go right past it.

I don't know what else to suggest because when I am there I am usually taking care of things for my Mom.

Harry and David is at Silver Sands, it's on the end closest to San Destin. And AFMom says that is where the Disney outlet is. Wonder if it is a Disney Store or Disney catalog outlet.

Do you ever get to the one in Foley? or is it still open?

ErinC
03-06-2006, 06:59 PM
The one in Foley is reopened, but it is now owned by Children's Place like the mall stores are. So you can get the same stuff that you get at the mall, but a little cheaper. The one in Destin by AFMOM is still owned by Disney. They have lots of clearance park merchandise and had some really great stuff when we were there in Oct. I wish ours here at Foley was still owned by Disney but I'm glad it at least opened back up at all.

Carrie- we saw the Lion King in Birmingham back in Sept. It was really awesome. I was so impressed with the kids in that show. My kids liked it too, but it didn't start until 8:00p.m. so Addison didn't even make it through the first 30 min. before she feel fast asleep. I'm not sure why it started so late. Thankfully, my MIL paid for it. She loves shows and will drag others just so she doesn't have to go alone. When she and DH and I went to Las Vegas in Nov. She bought me a ticket to go see Celine Dion with her. She wouldn't even hand me the ticket until we were about to go through the door, because she didn't want me to see how much she paid for it!:o I guess she loves me! Of course since I put up with her son everyday....!:ROTFL:

RWEThereyet: I hope your mother is doing better. She has really had a rough time!

lllovell - Those annual passes were a tough pill to swallow, even with the DVC discount. Oh well, next year it will only be worse, DD9 will be an official Disney adult ! (Yeah right) It's not so much the ticket prices that bug me as paying adult prices for a 10 year old that weighs 54lbs and eats like a bird!

Gerkin!! Ahhhh..I feel much better already!

Bavaria, I'm sorry to hear about all the tough times! I hope you and your father gets better soon! :grouphug:

Kristi, I hope your friend recovers soon! What bad luck he's been having lately.

Oh, and I just got a coupon in email for Melting Pot dessert. I thought of all the MP fans here. If you want it let me know :)

I don't even want to start with the cub scouts! I went to our pack committee meeting and found out I was busting my you-know-what to get our Tigers ready for their Bobcat & Tiger badges for nothing! :headache: Half the kids are done with all the requirements for both, the other half are behind on Tiger (Out of 15 requirements 1 boy only has 4!) but only need 1 each on Bobcat (more because of their parents not caring I think).
Pack master tells me they are ALL getting bobcat at next pack night and ALL getting Tiger at Blue & Gold at the end of the month. I told him they aren't all ready for it, and he tells me it doesn't matter. "It's not like we actually check to see if they did everything!" I got so mad! :burningma
I feel really bad for the kids that did work hard to get all the requirements done. While I realize it isn't the other kids fault they didn't finish yet, it bothers me that they are getting rewarded even if they don't deserve it. I do feel bad for the kids not done and we've been trying like crazy to get them caught up in time. I can see it now, the kids that completed everything will be disappointed because they KNOW they earned it and the others didn't and the other kids will learn they don't have to actually do the work to get the rewards.
This has been really bothering me! And to be honest, I kind of feel like "why the heck did I go through so much work, time and trouble for nothing? The boys are getting their badges even if they didn't do a single requirement."

GERKIN!!!! OK, thanks for letting me vent again! :grouphug:

what a cutie Erin!!:birthdayc Happy belated from your neighbor!

I hardly ever go to the Foley outlets. I am glad to hear there is something Disney down there again. I grew up in Foley, and still have a million family members there. But for some reason, I guess growing up with the outlets a bike ride from the house, I don't really get into them. I have found you got to be very careful with em'. The sidewalk, end of season sales are the best! Really have found basement bargains, but usually I found the prices are like??? this is discounted??? Especially JCrew. But like I said, I haven't been there in over a year, so I could be way off base.

Carrie, I so want to go see The Lion King!!!! My dream is to someday catch Beauty and the Beast on tour somewhere.

Lazy day here. Just took a nap in the abundant sunshine, with a million things to do. I need to call MS to do a transfer, but am waiting to see if one other thing pans out, and the waiting is driving me *BONKERS!*. I have no patience when it comes to WDW.

Speaking of Disney, my mom was over this morning, and decided it was time for our yearly "your blowing money out the window on Disney" speech. It just drives her insane!! Deaf ears, falls on deaf ears....

Okay, I wasn't going to check in, but I just wanted to say, Laura, thanks for the note about my CD. Life is not so good right now, and that was a lovely thing to read - thanks!

Bavaria, I've done the falling down the stairs thing. Why does it always hurt more the next day? I'm sorry, and hope your flight isn't too uncomfortable.

I'm sorry if I'm missing stuff here - I'm feeling really scattered.

Ds's surgery went fine, but he's just not getting better. He's been crying pretty much since Wednesday, and we haven't slept at all, plus my IL's were in town for the weekend, we had a play, and soccer, and church, and my dh's birthday, and lots of cooking for extra people, and all trying to look like you really don't mind that you haven't slept, and that your kid feels yucky. And I'm supposed to have the read-through of my new play in two weeks which would be fine IF IT WAS DONE! but it's not, I'm still writing, and we have to get out press-releases for the CD, and organize all the visiting bands and stuff for a big conference at church (which is also my job) and AAAAHHH - stop the world, I want to get off!

I'm almost having a Gopherit paragraph!

We did start my ds on antibiotics this morning, and it does seem to be helping - this is the best nap he's had since the surgery, and I think he had an infection, so this is hopeful for tonight, and for him. I just hate seeing the little guy hurting, especially since he's so normally easy-going, I know that he must feel really bad.

So, very sorry to vent! Started out thanking Laura, ended up dumping. Please excuse me.

And Rash, gerkin is just fun to say. So I'm going to try it. It'll cheer me up - gerkin, gerkin, gerkin. Thanks.

And both kids went to a BDay party on Sunday, where one dopey boy managed to guzzle two quarts of water as the other butt-head boys laughed and egged him on, until it all came rushing back up just missing the cake and pizza! :holymoly:

That actually can be downright dangerous. You can over-hydrate the body and in fact kill yourself by diluting the sodium levels in your blood to dangerously low levels. College kids who binge-drink sometimes think they can just drink a bunch of water and "dilute" the alcohol but as the ol' axiom goes - two wrongs don't make a right.

The general rule of thumb is 1 quart per 50 lbs of body weight - so if that kid isn't at least 100 lbs, he was already over the limit - good thing his stomach at least knew better.

That actually can be downright dangerous. We talked about this to the kids on the ride home. It offered a nice opoprtunity for a good lesson in not giving in to, or even joining in on, peer pressure. I let them know that if I knew they were in the room egging this numbskull on, I'd have been pretty po'd at them.

Anyway....

I'm having candy withdrawal. I surely don't eat a lot, but there's a nice bowl of chocolates in the next room and its killin' me.

Last week, the kids came home from school with questions about lent and why their Catholic friends were giving things up. Well, we had a fun talk about it and I also shared a story that was on NPR last week. A priest spoke about not picking his own things to give up but having them chosen for him, by his friend.

So, this kids thought they'd like to try this. We each wrote down something that we would try to live without and put the notes in a hat, then each picked out of the hat.

I picked candy and thought it would be pretty easy, but that bowl in the next room is screaming my name right now!

Oh that really IS a shame. First of all, what those poor boys have missed out on! And what hoops you have jumped through, too. How unfortunate.

But sadly, this seems to be the trend - let's give EVERYBODY a nice big prize. EVERYBODY wins! NOBODY loses! If these kids were, say, 3, I'd be all for it. But the reality is, these boys are being given the very real message, "Don't bother - the world OWES you. Sweat equity not required." (And for those who DID achieve all the goals - they get the message, "Sucker! ") And oddly enough - those who buy into this "let's give 'em all the same reward, even the ones who didn't earn it" philosophy will claim they do so in the "interest of each child's self-esteem".

Malarky, I say - Malarky with a gerkin on top.

What child should feel "empowered" by a reward he didn't earn? Why feel good about receiving an award that everyone else also got whether they did the work or not?

It's less about self-esteem and much more about not wanting to press (or being unable to press) parents into commitment. It's about not wanting to have to break bad news to anyone, or to take the time to teach some of life's harder lessons.

My oldest son has oodles of trophies - some quite huge - from his past 6 years of organized sports, where they LOVE to employ the "let's give them ALL a reward" concept. I swear, some of these coaches go so far-out, you half-wonder what they are compensating for.... But no matter how glitzy or golden, within a week, my son can hardly recall what those trophies are even for. If you point at a trophy at random in his room and asked him to tell you what he learned obtaining that award, or how that season ended, my son - the sports data machine - can not recall. He will have to study the date and count back, and thinkthinkthink - and comes up with nothing special. But point to the trophy he received that summer that he was 2nd baseman and he made three outs 1-2-3 to close the winning game and clinch the season title, all with a sore arm from getting slammed while running a base in the prior inning - now THAT one he can give you every minute detail. Most of the other trophies are just dust magnets.

Sorry to hear so many of your pack cubbies will be receiving "dust magnet" patches :sosad: - at least your group will have some meaning with theirs. Try not to let it get you down - those boys need more people like you!

AFMom

That really is bad, Stimpy. IMHO - bad enough to bring up at the next Committee meeting you have. If the Council you are in knew that was happening in your Pack - they would be REALLY PO'd - may even take action against the Pack Leader (ie - kicking him out). This is not what Cubs is about..... I would insist that your den not be awarded anything they didn't earn - to a point of not letting the kids go up even if he calls their names. It may be uncomfortable for people- but it would be a mighty good lesson for the scouts. What happens next year? Wolf is twice as much work - but if they don't do the work - then why be a CS? Then Bear - again - the work doubles.
I really feel that the Tigers are at risk here. They'll end up quitting CS - those who are trying hard because their effort doesn't matter,,,, and those who aren't because they won't actually care about what they are doing.
I know there were Wolves in my sons old den (we changed dens - this was a reason why) that were given their Wolf at B&G for the reasons your Pack Leader listed, and to not let them be left out - but give me a break! If a kid doesn't want to be left out - then he needs to finish the requirements. Tiger really isn't that hard, and most of it's done at the meetings..... There are only 5 requrements to do at home..... Ug. Can you tell this sort of thing really gets me?
Be the voice of reason and stand up for those kids' character development. I can tell you're a person that can do it, too. I think if you stand up to the Pack Leader - he'll back down - he knows he's wrong.

Jnrrt - I'm so sorry for your son! I hope the antibiotics clear him up so he can finally get better.

Hi all,

I am happy to report that my son has been asleep since 7:30 with nary a peep. And he took a three and a half hour nap today, which just goes to show how exhausted he was. His longest nap since the surgery before was 48 minutes. Not that I was counting. So I'm feeling some sleep coming on for me tonight! And I'm so happy this seems to be working - he was scaring me by Sunday.

I want to second that the Lion King was really cool. If you have them, bring binocs or opera glasses to get a close look at the puppets and costumes/makeup - they are incredible.

I don't even have a scout, but I'm thinking that leader needs someone to stand up. That just teaches so many wrong things in so many ways.

And man, I wish I could come to your Melting Pot meet! Alas, while I have a Melting Pot, there are no other MO's close by.

I am going to go and work on my play. And maybe if I catch some of this stuff up, I won't be freaking out so much tomorrow. It's just been impossible to get anything done when the little man was feeling so bad.

Well we found out tonight, that for our May trip, my SIL and niece and nephew, ages 6 and 8 will be joining us for 4 nights. DH and I are just tickled to death! Poor little ones, they have been through absolute hell lately, were Katrina victims, a divorce, you name it. I have had the best time tonight making dining plans for some Character interaction. "can we scream really loud when we see *HIM*?" (of course you know who!)

I just never have taken small children before, should be a different, yet exciting experience to live it through such precious eyes. Meanwhile back to work, extra for me, as we are also geting their tickets. I am happy to be able to do it for such two deserving little ones.

Rozzie, that trips sounds great! Our last trip was so fun because my girls were old enough to really "get" a lot more of it. Your neice and nephew sound the perfect age! Plus, you're the aunt, so you have permission to totally spoil them - what could be better? The main advice I'd give as someone who travels with kids is to make sure you pay attention to their normal schedule. Not that you can't push them a bit, but you don't want to go too far. Tired kids are NOT fun, even in the Happiest Place on Earth. Plus, they will probably be walking a lot more than they're used to, and they're usually so excited that they don't know they're tired, or want to stop even if they do. I hope you guys have a ball!

We're on the less than 24 hour countdown to D day right now, so we went out to dinner and are getting ready to play a bunch of boardgames with the kids until late tonight.
Bought Harry Potter this morning and had fun watching it!
Youngest DS (who has been in speech therapy for 4 years) made his first successful 'R' sound today!!!!!! :birhdaypa It was so happy I almost cried, I had to call my MIL to share the good news. You wouldn't believe how big of a step that was for him.:cheerlead
That's it here. Won't be around tomorrow - so Happy Gerkin to you all, and I'll 'see' you all Thursday (Or maybe come here and mope around tomorrow late at night.....):boohoohoo

Ohh, AFMom , I'm so sad for you. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers today!

Not much time to post, going shopping at the Foley outlets. Check in with you later!

I don't either - but here I sit anyway. DH is helping kids with computer before he leaves because he knows I'm useless! This is a great place to go to get away from it all!
As far as d-day being later in the year..... it will come around again in December!!! They have a rotation of 3 months gone, 6 months home, and then 3 months gone again and so on.... That can change - but that's what they've been doing for a while now.

:flowerfor for AFMOM. I hope that the months pass quickly for you and you know we will be here for you!

I am very happy for your little one!!! Richard (my just turned 4 year old) has some issues, but they are quickly clearing up as he matures, but we have worked hard to make sure that if they weren't going to clear up on their own, that we gave him a good head start! I know you are so proud and I bet that child is just beaming with pride.

I want to post MORE today for some reason. It is a beautiful day and I think I am in a pretty good mood....but my goodness the work on my desk STILL from year end. Changing accounting programs at year end just about killed me. I am going to get through by the 15th of this month if it kills me!!! The good news is that I have refused to come into work on the weekends - - doing a litle bit from home, but not much and being behind from the accounting change and maternity leave, I think that is pretty darn good to just about be done (even if it feels like everything is such a mess right now!). In years past, I have worked everyday through the middle of February and gotten things done...so in some ways, I am obviously much better off these days. :cheerlead

My desk is the darkness before dawn at the moment. A HUGE mess, but almost there....diving back in - so wish me luck!!!

OK, meant to get to be around 9 (or at least be working my way up the stairs). I picked a bad week to give up caffeine again, although with this stress level, I may have killed AT LEAST one persone today, maybe 2. (And I hope my boss goes through resale and get ROFR'd! Does that tell you anything) Anyway, I was suffering from withdrawl today and could not resist.

After years and years of drinking a Diet Coke for breakfast when I got to work each morning, I quit cold turkey last October when hubby got sick and we had to change our evil ways. I had one really bad morning and drank 1/2 a can a couple of weeks ago, but I gotta be honest and say I didn't wish to drink any more than that. Although my co-workers now consdier me a little bit :scary: , I do feel better.

I know what you are going thru, but it is work it. Hubbies cardiologist says soft drinks should be banned from the face of the planet. :holymoly: Hubby still drinks Diet Rite Tangerine, he says with no sugar, no caffeine and no sodium, what can be wrong with it? I understand carbonation isn't the best think for you, but he refuses to give it up.

YOu hang in there, each day gets easier, after a week you won't even miss it.

Mornin' all... no coffee yet, just nibbling Vanilla Creme Frosted Mini wheats... (hey, it has WHEAT in it... maybe it's not ALL bad? :veryconfu )

Fried a turkey last night and had a gen-u-wine sit-down dinner for the family, even with candle-light! DS9 helped me cook, set table, etc. - he's such a sweetie. Lately we have just been so go-go-go-gophering it's been left-overs and grab-what-ya-can. WHat a pleasant change! Eldest DS was EXTREMELY upset - DH took boys to get haricut and DS11 is entering the age where image is starting to matter... he's not good at articulating what he wants, though, and left the barber shop with something different (or so he thought) than what he wanted and was NOT happy. Like, never showing my face in public again, will have to attend school via computer unhappy. I told him to take a shower, and said if he didn't like it after that, I could trim it some on top - but he needed to realize I could only take more OFF... not bring any more BACK! Well, after the shower - he realized it wasn't so bad, issue solved, and actually seemed happy with it today. Whew.

Hey in just a few days, I'm actually heading to Orlando for 3 days for a conference. While I'm down there and not consumed with the conference or other work, I am going to do some fun stuff - like pick up our US/IOA tix I bought on-line. Also going to hit some Disney outlets for goodies and maybe see some old colleagues/friends. And probably pit-stop in DTD. BUt honestly, being in the land of WDW without family just seems so wrong to me... kinda lonely! Anyone else feel that way that travels there on business? There is another person from my company going down too - but he annoys me beyond all reason (very negative and is using trip for really his own benefit, a "stickin' it to the man" kinda guy who, like the ad, is really just stickin' it to himself .. pretty much rubs this otherwise easy-going gopher's fur the WRONG WAY.) So I will do some artful dodging of him, as well! Sadly, I think we have the same flight going back - which means I'm stuck in the Pittsburgh airport with him for 4 stinkin' hours. I guess I could disappear in the ladies room.... maybe take a book.... Hmmmm. :scratchch I'm staying at the Hilton Grand Vacation CLub on I Drive - is it any good? I prefer staying in a Homewood Suites on business (I like the free b'fast and food/drinks at night, LOL!) but it was booked solid.

Oh well - droned on long enough, min-wheats gone, need coffee!!!

gopherit--

I have seen pictures of the HGVC, and it looks really, really nice. No personal experience though.

As far as being at Disney without the family, I have no problems whatsoever. Is there any reason that you should not have a good time without them being with you. I have done it, had to go to a meeting, never felt guilty one iota. To me it seems more of a shame to be so close and then not take advantage. If you have an AP, why not head to your favorite restaurant. You can do what you want when you want............what a new concept.

Have a good meeting and a great trip to the area.

Speaking of camping - we're getting all ready for a Cub Scout camp trip this weekend. Just my kids' dens - about 26 or so people. Only 15 of those are kids, so it should be pretty mellow. It should be great - and the weather is going to be beautiful! Yay! I was really going to be worried if I had 15 wet kids stuffed under a pavillion in a thunderstorm on the beach!:holymoly:

AFMOM: so sorry you are blue! Maybe you need to put a 3 month ticker on your siggie so we can all count down with you! I can't remember the name of the site to get one...but I think it shows up on the bottom of some of the siggies.

Lllovell..are we having a cholestral today are we? I never get hungry until about 3PM (and then by 4 I am ravenous), so I don't have a problem much....but then there is BLOOD tests! Yuckynononononono. Hope it comes back A+++++++

Gopherit: I am the old fashioned kind who never could enjoy myself if I had left family at home. And you know what? That isn't a good way to be. What I saw as being selfish is really being healthy...self love . Ya know, all that Oprah stuff.

So I say: go ride EE and Soaring and watch a show that no one else likes (in your fam of boys, do you get to see B &B often? and just enjoy the shhhhhquiet!!!LOL.
About annoying guy: hopefuly you aren't sitting together on the plane. So try to get off first and just disappear to another concourse. Or get on the phone and just yakyak yak when he's around...I'm sure that will make him go away HA!

I'm getting excited for my upcoming trip to Puerto Vallarta with daughter, BUT I got a phone call a half hour ago from her weeping....she spilled a huge container of boiling water on her thigh and she had pants on so it kinda kept the heat in. Her skin is coming off and she called me to ask if she needed to go to the ER. I said hellyes (In our family we never went to the doctor unless we broke a couple bones or something.) I feel awful, cause just last week I told her that I wanted to schedule our zipline for later in the trip in case she got hurt. (She has a habit of getting accident prone on vacation)...She laughed and said "oh mom you are so silly". So this burn will have a week to heal before she leaves....but I imagine she will be in the crusty stage of scabbing and sun sensitive, so I'm bummed for her.
Please send some pixie dust her way that it isn't as bad as she first thought!

CB, that is awful! I'm so sorry! And it hurts like heck. My brother did the same thing. I wish I could remember the name of the stuff (maybe Rozzie would know?) but there's some cream you can put on burns that we got from the dr. and it was like a miracle - no scarring, healed it a lot faster, and kept him way more comfortable. Burns are not pretty when they are healing. Ouch, I'm not enjoying sitting here thinking about it! Tell her that your stalker internet friends are thinking of her. That should make her feel better;) .

AFMom, if that's the extent of your sulking, you're a better woman than I am. I'm really thinking of you guys - I know how hard this must be. You vent whenever!

Gopher - I know exactly what you mean. We haven't done it with Disney, but if you're somewhere that's a "family" type memory place, being without them there is lonely. I second everyone else though, go do something fun that you wouldn't take your whole family to. Personally, I'd go see La Nouba - your guys don't sound like that's the first thing they'd run to, and if you haven't seen it, it's awesome.

And on the weird news front - I now have tonsilitis. And yet, my tonsils were removed when I was three. So as the dr. is telling me this, and I haven't met him before, I'm thinking, "Hmmm, maybe this isn't the BEST dr. ever..." but then he tells me, no these are the lingual tonsils, not to be confused with tonsil tonsils. Apparently we are have many little tonsils that don't count so much when tonsils are being removed. Who knew? And since my son had an infection and then drooled on me after his surgery for a week, apparently I was lucky enough to get this affliction. So there we are.

This concludes your medical education for this post.

I got confirmation that we have our Lion King tickets for October of this year. It may seem a bit early, but if you have a group of 20 or more then you could buy them now before they were released to the general public.

And the best part is, our seats start on the second row from the stage. :bluebloun :bluebloun :bluebloun

I am so excited about this. I have alwyas wanted to see Lion King on Broadway, but this will be the next best thing, and I will get to see it will all my Disney freak buddies.

Thought I'd update DD's condition : she is out of the hospital and rehab and on her way home. Her roomie is headed for PA school in a few months, so it's almost like having a doc-on-call! (and certainly better than her ER doc dad who was practically worthless when it came to injuries...go figure.)

They peeled off the burned skin (yuck) and dressed it. It took two shots of morphine to get the pain to stop and the kid is worried about the pain over the next 4 days. But the ER brought in their burn specialist and they are seeing her the next 4 days to do the dressing changes...so it seems like she is getting the best of care. I'm impressed (and I am a tough cookie when it comes to my one and only and treating her ) They even ok'd the trip next week...said she would be healed in two weeks and that she just had to keep her leg out of the sun.
I had just sent her a care fact sheet and it seems the PA had given her the same advice already....so, whew, as long as it doens't get infected, I think she will be fine. She is so sweet...she thanked me for taking good care of her 'by phone'...bless her little heart! And I told her about all your well-wishes and she said to say thanks for thinking of her!

Ok...back to normal everyday nothings.

Ooooo, CB, my heart goes out to her - I think a burn is one of the absolute most dreadful injuries on earth. We had a guy come to our facility once - he had been in a MAJOR explosion and suffered burns over 80% of his body, many deep extensive. His road to recovery was a dreadful tale - gives me shivers to think about it. Hopefully she will heal fast and as pain-free as time and modern med allows!

AFMom - God luv ya, you are SO entitled to sulk, brood, whatever! I am headed over in another week to visit my SIL (my brother has been gone for about a month out of a 4-6 mos stint). She's there alone with the 3 kids, so thought we'd go over and meet her somewhere (I don't want her to feel like she needs to clean her house or do extra work, so we will meet at the museum, let the kids play, and buy them lunch!) But GET THIS - I found out this wkend that my brother NEVER TOLD MY MOM HIS STINT WAS OVERSEAS! He was relocated to another base, but had told me back in Nov. that from there, he would be sent various places, on a moment's notice. I know for a fact it included overseas "bad places" because he was asking me chemistry-geek questions about what I thought might be in some of the pesticidal agents they gave him. SO I talk to my Mom and ask if she's heard from him lately, and then said, "So has he mentioned anything about where he is, or is that allowed?" She said, "Well, he's in (name of other base), of course!" I said, "Well, ok, so he's there now - has he made one of his rounds yet overseas?" She said, "What rounds? What are you talking about? He isn't going anywhere - he's just staying at that base." Uh... yeah, sure Mom, whatever you say.... :zipit:

Well, DS9 just reminded me I gave up computers after 8 pm for lent, so ta-ta tim morning, fellow nothingers...

It looks like we are getting off to a late start this morning.

Colorado Belle, I'm aching just thinking of your poor daughter. Ouch! Hope she heals up soon.

AFMom- I hope you can get through the next couple of days, hopefully the time will pass quickly for you. Do you all celebrate with a trip or something special when your DH gets home? I know that you homeschool, do you take summers off from homeschooling? Seems like that will be about the time your DH gets home. I know that trips always make me feel better!:woohoo:

Gopherit, hopefully your brother will remain safe and sound, wherever he is. I'm sure your SIL can use the company.

I'm off to drag DD(now 3) to the doc. I think she has tonsilitis again! She had fever last week but I couldn't get in to see the doctor. They were booked solid for 2 days! Soooo, I did a bad thing, I started her on some antibiotic that I had left from a few weeks ago that she had been given for the same thing. One bottle wasn't enough so they mixed 2 and I had a lot left over. Within a day her fever went away, and she seemed to be doing okay. But, after day 3 of the meds. I accidentaly left the bottle out on the counter overnight(it was supposed to be refrigerated). So I threw it away and was hoping for the best. She doesn't have any fever now, but she says her throat hurts. This is about the 6th time in the last year that she has had tonsilitis. I will probably get a tongue lashing from the pediatrician when I get there. Oh well, I'll just keep thinking that one week from today, I'LL BE SLEEPING AT WDW!!!!!!! Dh is so excited (which is unusual) he wants me to check the kids out of school early, so we can get on the road ASAP. At first I balked and told him they needed to go on and go, but I'm starting to think that I just want to get out of town too! Maybe we can stop by AFMom's and she can just homeschool them for the day!:teacher: Check in later, hope ya'll wake up soon!

CB - ouch ouch ouch for your daughter. I am glad she is getting such good care and in some ways, it sounds like maybe this will help your trip since she has just gotten a good dose of "mom love". I know sometimes you two butt heads!

Ok all you sick people! GET BACK!!! I have been sicker this year than I have in a long time and I don't need tonsil yuckies (Richard has been telling me his throat hurts...but he has been telling me every part of his body hurts lately - discovering "sick" days and wanting to come to work with me - but now I am a bit worried if this is going around). Best wishes to Jnrrt for a speedy recovery and to Erin's daughter!

My office supported our local Public Television last night in their fund raising "Festival". If you guys have public t.v., you know what I mean. Now..in some states that would be considered stalking, but I know he isn't stalking me - heck - he knows where I am 5 days a week already! We used to talk for a minute on the weekends when he would come around so I guess it sticks out.

Sadly, I wish that the reason I wasn't working is that I was WAY ahead, but really it is that I am just 1. too pooped and 2. when I do work, it is from home now. (but I do love gotomypc.com...access from home so I dont waste an hour each way driving - I can actually work those hours from home instead!).

So, dont take home too much Carrie - apparently, it becomes a bad habit!!! :judge:

Always a treat to see your kid on their turf. Even though everyon'e on their best beaviour cause all us old folks are around, they still slip in and out of their "kid-ness".

No major weekend plans here, other than the start of baseball season for the kids. Both have their first practices Saturday and I think I'm more excited than they are.

Back from the Doc. Turns out she has ear infection in both ears. Tonsils look fine. She did say her lymph nodes were swollen, so I guess that's why I was feeling like it was her tonsils. But, the bright side of things is that she has chosen to get the infection a week before our WDW trip. Quite possibly, I might get to avoid the Centra Care health facility right next to DD this trip! Although, I so enjoy my annual trip there! I don't know about the rest of you, but I think that I can count the times on one hand that we have made it through a WDW trip (or any vacation for that matter) that someone in the family has gotten sick. Addison will finish her meds just before we leave, so maybe she will be able to ward off all the other stuff during the trip. Carrie, I didn't actually fess up to the doc. about what I did, just mentioned the fever and the ear complaints. I know, I know, I'm really high on the "Mother of the year" list!:o Hope everybody else stays well!

AFMom- that's okay about missing a couple of days this week with your kids schooling, with the week you've had everyone probably just needs a little time to adjust to your DH being away. :grouphug:

Gotta go sign up DD9 for spring soccer, and eat lunch with my Mother. Oh, and because I haven't said it this week..........Gerkin to all!

Where is that nomination for Erin??? ;) I'd be hard on you, but I still can't get over not being able to see a sick child for 2 days. SOmetimes a mom's gotta' do what a mom's gotta' do. (I'll think about you every time I pass one of those billboards about not taking antibiotics lightly, though. :p )

TW - Are you going somewhere soon? ;)

Trust me, Laura, I do not make a habit of this.

Just checking in quick to say, I'm feeling a lot better. Thanks for the pixie dust! And ds is sleeping normally finally, so the sun is shining again!

Thanks Carrie!:ROTFL: :ROTFL: :hahahaha: :hahahaha: Maybe I can send them my picture so that they can post it next to the warning. It has been a horrible round with our pediatric group lately. Holland had pink eye two weeks ago and they couldn't get me an appointment for 3 days. I told them forget it, it couldn't wait that long. I found pink eye drops in the cabinet and started her on those. I even left a message for the nurse and she NEVER called me back. When I called them back they told me they were going to call her something in(she read the prescription name to me and it was the same stuff I was already giving her), guess what? They never called it in to the pharmacy! I've really had it with them. I'm trying to change doctors but I'm running in to problems doing that too. Since we would be a new patient, the wait would be 1-2 weeks. Well guess what, my kids hopefully won't be sick anymore by then. It really is crazy. I was able to get Addison in pretty quickly this time, maybe with flu season slowing down, things will improve. I hate to post about all these illnesses in the family, we sound like we need to be in a sterile room somewhere!:o

Hate to admit it, Erin - but I've done exactly the same thing with the antiobiotics - and I'm usually REALLY good about following all the rules about those! I think it's mother's desperation that leads us to it! And no way would I have told the DR!!!!! (sorry Tony......) I feel like I'm 5 years old sometimes when I go in......
I added a ticker. Can't know the exact date - and won't be able to post it anyway - so I just estimated.
TW1 - that sounds neat! Maybe they were just having the kids do high-powered work since ya'll were there! kidding..... What grade and what kind of work did you see? I'm always worried I'm not doing enough!
Hey - CB - if he was stuck in Europe for 3 months - I'd head out there with him! Sounds good to me..... I'll daydream for a while now.....:loveisint
I gotta go back to the grocery store.... again..... I figured I need more eggs than I thought for the breakfast at camp, forgot salsa, and need a chocolate fix while I'm there.:jumpingbe
Gonna go rent a movie, too. Wine, chocolate, a movie.... Yep - I'll gain 30lbs while he's gone! The exact thing that I can't let happen!
Oh - you are all going to be soooooo sick of this. I promise - in a few days I won't bring it up at all - I just haven't gotten out of the initial funk yet.
It's Friday! Have a great weekend!:grouphug:

Top o' the morning from the bottom of the gopher hole!

B-E-A-you-ti-full day outside. Made french toast for b'fast - I'd offer you some, but DH scarfed it down. Coffee's still good, though. Mestizo Disco by UP Chocolates. DH hates coffee, so there's always an extra cup or two!

Our fam is headed down to Charleston to watch our HS girls basketball team vye for the State Champ title. On the way - we're having our "FAmily Vacation" planning session (as organized by DS9 - what a kid!) ON the table for debate: # of days at US/IOA, # days elsewhere (right now ressies are in at OKW, but maybe do Vero instead?) So we'll discuss the options, debate, vote, decide, and hopefully, by the time we get back, I will have a full itinerary planned and know what things I might want to get done while in Orlando next week. I'm going to hit the outlets for some goodies, of course, and pick up tix from US/IOA, and check out the hotel (we have ressies at RPR). I promised to bring home some pics of it for the kids - they have already looked at all the stuff on the 'net - they want MORE!

Well, better go do something to my very scary hair and load up the fun mobile with all the vacation planning tools! Happy Saturday to all!

Erin, it sounds to me as if a lot of what your kids get is chronic. Could you talk them into a precription of antibiotics to have filled and take with you to WDW? I know they don't normallly like to do that, but I think I sure would ask.

Hi everyone! Things have been too crazy here so I haven't been able to visit my favorite "nothing thread". I tried to get a caught up in all the news, seems it's been a crazy week for everyone here too!

Kristi, I hope the next 3 months go by very quickly! Hey according to your countdown it's only 2 months, 4 weeks and a few days (:headscrat I thought that translated to 3 months but it does sound better as 2 months 4 weeks LOL) Hope you and the boys have a great camping weekend!

CB, I hope your daughter heals very quickly. That sounds extremely painful, I can't imagine how she is feeling!

jnrrt, I'm so glad to hear your son is doing better!!!

Erin, I hope your daughter recovers quickly too :goodvibes

I know I missed some people and I'm really sorry! I really wish I had more time to stop in here to visit! It helps me keep my sanity sometimes! :flowerfor

Oops, forgot to add...the cub scouts! :sosad: The Tigers got their bobcat last night but I know they atleast all earned that one! We had a cram session at our last den meeting so they did the work for it. And since most of the parents don't really know all the boys are getting their Tiger badge without finishing the requirements :Paranoid: , we've been putting some pressure on them to finish up. Out of 8 cubs, 4 are done, 2 only need 1 and then there are the other 2:sosad: After talking it over with DH and the assistant leader (nice guy but a little flaky....I really hope he has no interest in DVC and researching it here! LOL) we decided we're going to just worry about the Tigers. We can't change the pack but we can make sure "our" group does what they are supposed to be doing and make it a positive experience for them.

Ominous day in Gopherville... we got home last night around 7 pm after watching our HS girls team win the State title (by a seat-gripping one point!). Evening went fine... and then, got that wake-up call all mothers dread at 2 am...

"Moooooooom, I don't feel so good....."

Yup, middle son has the stomach flu.

Now I realize lots of kids get the stomach flu, and it's that time of year, but stomach flu has particularly evil ramifications in our house. If DH gets it - he will, no, MUST - go straight to the hospital. Ever since he was 18 and ate some bad salsa (lovely things salmonella can do for ya!), if he gets the stomach flu - he can't stop the cycle. Worse still is that by the time he's thrown up 3 times, he loses all sense of reason - so GETTING him to the hospital becomes increasingly difficult - at times nearly impossible. Last THanksgiving he went in at 8 am and I didn't get him out of the hospital until 8pm - he was so bad off, they thought he was having a heart attack. He has zero recollection of how he behaved during the time leading up to me taking him in - doesn't remember how I had to push, shove, drag his retching body out of the house, and when finally, he lay in an immovable puddle of protoplasm on the floor of his parents' foyer, I had no choice but to say, "Well, that's it. I'm calling 911." Nothing penetrates my DH's fog like a larger co-pay for ambulance services (plus all the atetnion an ambulance brings.... perish the thought.) SO he staggered out to the van and collapsed in a puddle there, but at least I could get him to the ER.

SO here's the extra ominous part - I'm leaving town tomorrow for a must-do business trip for 4 days. DS clearly has the flu - if he isn't throwing up, he's on the toilet. We have his belly calmed down somewhat now, but a fever is creeping in. We spent 2-3 hours yesterday in a small vehicle, snorting up each other's presence, driving to/from the game. Who is next? THe kids? DH? Me? It's like a game of viral roulette.... on which I'm hoping we ALL pass. Pray for us! :worried: I called my neighbor and asked him to keep an eye out for us - he works in the same bldg as DH, and his wife is a Phys. Assistant. I figure, if DH doesn't show for work while I'm gone - send your wife and a gurney over to the house STAT!

Meanwhile.... It's dumping rain and has been all night and morning. We need it, but ... ugh.

yikes Gopher! Hope the viral crawdaddy's don't invade the rest of your clan. My advice----WASH HANDS! I know, preaching to the choir, but after everything you touch, wash hands. None of that germ spreader gel stuff either.

btw, if you haven't run across the scientific data yet, majority of men have a "unique" sick role they adapt to when they are sick. Not saying your DH is that of course, he truly sounds like he is sick. Sounds like he has "pools" of evidence to boot.

But men in general. OMG! The stories! If I had a nickel everytime a male patients mother kicks the wife out of the hospital room for not being "motherly" enough....well, that OKW addon would be mine!

Anyway, I'll keep the gopher clan in my thoughts. I hope your DS feel better soon. There is a violent stomach bug going around here also. It is brutal, lots of admissions for dehydration lately. CHIPS & SIPS!

Hope you have a healthy trip also! Keep us updated!

It was pretty illuminating for my MIL to see her son get sick that Thanksgiving. I think she thought , in the past, I had just sat and twiddled my thumbs, perhaps. She finally got to see how stubborn he was and resistant to going to a doctor ("I'll... pantpant....be... just....*gag* *retch* .... fine....."). She was pleading with him to get up. I just held up my hand, and said softly, "THis will do it." and made the comment loudly about calling an ambulance. Abracadabra, he was up (barely, but up!) and acquiescently inching to the car.

Because my pain threshold is high, DH often over-estimates ym abilities. A wicked wicked respiratory flu was going around in Winter 2000 - DH had it, and I nursed him back to health over the course of a week or two, taking on his care along with caring for our two young boys aged 4 and 3 and also being 4 mos pregnant myself. Well - a week or two later it hits me - except there's precious little I could take for it. I came home, climbed in bed and did not move except to cough for about the next 8 to 10 hours, but to no avail. (I probably should have been hospitalized, in retrospect). At 6 am the next day, DH lowers his face right next to mine and says, "Honey - you awake?" I pry open one fevered eye just in time to see him, neatly dressed and coat already on, saying, "I'm going to work. So.... you'll get the boys off to preschool, right?"

Yeah... sure ... I'll get right on it.

Of my two sons, one son has my disposition (just leave me alone when I'm sick - I'll take care of myself) but DH's immune system (meaning he gets sick more often.) THe other child reacts to illness just like his dad (Oh woe is me! Bet NOBODY has EVER had it THIS bad! Oh the anguish!) but has my immune system (rarely if EVER gets sick. Was over a year old before he got his first cold!)

I guess it's better that way than the other way around!

I actually recall DH going out of town on business one week, and the day after he left, all 3 kids, bing, bang, boing, got the stomach flu, and then me. By the time he got back, I had every body fairly well nursed back to health, but man - for about 48 hrs there, it was ROUGH. I wouldn't wish THAT on ANYONE... even an overly sensitive DH who left me with carpool detail when I had pneumonia.

Oh gopher...I can't help but laugh at the gelatinous lump of protoplasm on the floor...and it slicking its way into the car to avoid an ambulance! You should be a writer!!!!!

I can so relate to the other part of your'story'. My X is an ERDoc. And when he gets sick, he pops pills and gets IV fluids stat. But when I would get sick...he'd just leave the house and figure I'd find a way to drive the kid to school, take care of chores and be all better by the time he got home.

I fell out of a ladder decorating the Xmas tree...That one was a 19 foot fall, and I thought I broke my leg. (The indent is still there all these 10 years later). I did break my arm. I had t have it 'fixed' with those little finger torture thingies they hang from the ceiling to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the arm with (can't describe them but they are evil evil evil) and the doc didn't have the ok to use pain meds (new practice up here in little mountain town)...so I did it on aspirin. YIkes...So we get home and X says: well I guess we can't have the Xmas party (for 50) on Saturday huh ?(It was Thursday night). ....Well, we actually did have the party and yes, I cooked and cleaned, with my broken arm in a sling (too swollen to cast it yet.)

I hate to sound man-bashing, but the thing is, that many men never 'release' the concept that woman is mother is nurturer. And they often forget that someone has to occassionally nurture the nurturer. Some things I will never understand....

Ok , rant over, back to our previously scheduled nothingness.

Rozzie

yes Gopher, you should publish! I would be first in line at the book signing!:)

If only I had the energy to type for man patient stories. I know there is a divine reason that women bear the childbirth. Okay, sorry to all those men on here, really I am pro-man, er....pro-myman, I should say. I think men play the important role of "protector". I remember my first car accident, teenage girl, balling in hysterics....I had a female cop write the accident up. It was just odd I tell you. I so desired this uniformed male officer to step up and protect me from the craziness of the moment. Not "Martina". Not that there is anything wrong with that. Really. Blame it on Disney, I guess. The prince to come and rescue me.

okay enough with my psycho-babble. Hopefully Dr.Phil isn't a lurker here.

Rozzie, some of those female cops do try a bit too hard to be tough, though, LOL! My sister was pulled over for speeding (which, I might add, SHE WAS). Anyhooo, it's a female police officer. Soon as my niece (then age 3) got one look at the police woman and her stern face, she burst into gut-wailing, ear-piecing screams...

"DON'T TAKE MY MOMMY TO JAIL! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" :tearsaref

Well, the police woman didn't know WHAT to do, and didn't have much of a kid-friendly manner, either (think monotone, "Uh, there there, kid, uh, it's gonna be o-kay now...."). After a few minutes of this, she finally waved my sister off, and said, "Ok lady, just slow down, drive carefully, and...just... GO." Too funny.
