RASH!!! I like it!

Lisa - I'm sooo sorry! If it makes you feel better, I once went a whole week only speaking to teh receptionist (hi and bye) and the person taking my order at teh drive thru. No vacation time, a whopping 23 days at the new job and my entire group was off and living in a new area. I ran out of things I knew how to do and read technical journals for 2 days. And, um, who just came back from Disney? ;)

TW - I'll give her a crash course any time! My toy has come down quite a bit in price now too. ;) (Seriously, if you want ideas for beginners, if she wants to do more, let me know)

Maybe I misled a bit. I can actually get up and walk out almost anytime because I am commission only. I can take days off but they are never with pay. In fact, if I don't have loan closings, I make nothing:bugeyed:

Anyway, yes, I just went to Disney and it was great:goodvibes :sunny: If I went for more than a week though, my business would fall off dramatically!!! Can't let that happen since I have dues to pay and future trips to make:beaniepro

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone had a great time and got all the toys they wanted. What a ridiculously busy, hectic, but ultimately fun and rewarding holiday season this has been. Hopefully I'll find time to post the details in the near future. For now I'l just say that I'm honored to have been the word-of-the-week, and I'll start off the new year with...

Hi all,

Just checking back in to say Happy New Year. We've just come back from another Tour of Michigan! where we spend many days in frenetic and crazed activity with way too many relatives.

We had a good time, but I almost wept with happiness to see our four bedrooms once again. I love my children, but sleeping with five of us in one room gets really old really fast.

Going to go try and continue trying to catch up on everything. You all were busy while we were gone!

I need some! I can only have it in the closet, though. In the real world, nothing but herbal tea, water and powerade this week. It's gonna' be a little warmer than I wanted on Sunday and I need to be fully hydrated.

On the bright side, the weather wil be warm for the rest of my trip!

Only 4 work days 'til DIsney. Yay!

Hey nono, what is it with sleeping with kids? They are so small, but if you let them in bed with you, they manage to hit the position that will take up the most space. My daughters always sleep sideways - what is up with that? Same with the dog - she's little, but it's amazing how much bed space she can take up if she wants to, and how heavy she can instantly become if you try to move her.

Morning all.. I'll take some of that java, Nono, thanks.

Ugh! I hear you! We finally put our foot down last September and switched to a DSL modem. One of the best decisions we ever made. With some of the deals these days you really should consider it. We have an earthlink account that gave us the modem for free and the first six months at dial up rate. Service has been very good.

PoohsPal
01-03-2006, 04:20 PM
No dsl in my area yet. :( Other high speeds are about $60 per month. Just can't justify it yet.

As for marathon, I am psyched, I am scared, I am wondering how to concentrate on work at all, let alone get everything done that I need to in 4 days. :hammer:

TW1
01-03-2006, 04:25 PM
Agree, $60 is too much. Our ceiling price was $40 and that's just where it lands for now. And we don't have cable, so that wasn't an option either.

I have a list made, but my last day off was thrown off kilter (lol) by the arrival of the ILS yesterday afternoon. WHle they were very well behaved, I hate having company when I need to get up for work in the morning (and they're still there) not to mention my last day off. (OK, so I leave again Friday, but it's still not teh greatest).

I have a small pile started in teh guest room, but the guests being in it did not help. Off to buy disposable sweats, wet wipes and a book tonight and that should be it.

Finish the regular laundry tonight. Do one more load of running stuff Thursday. I should be golden.

I think I'm set physically and . Popping airborne, because I really don't want to be sick. I shoudl be set. There's this lump in my stomach, though.....

I'm too far gone to go back and catch up, LOL, so let me just crawl out of my gopher hole to bid my good-fer-nothing friends (meant as a compliment, of course!) a prosperous 2006!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/ck26181/gopherbeer34.jpg

With that business out of the way, I can go back to my winter's nap.... and **YAWN**, boy do I need one! We rolled in late Sunday nt from the "Eastern US leg" of our World Tour For Peace (that is, amongst our families, who oddly vye for our presence every holiday, ESPECIALLY xmas, yet can't be persuaded to visit us in return the other 364 days on the calendar...) DD5 woke up Monday feeling yucky... then progressed to yuckier... then got downright scary with head pain, stomach pain, and a fever - the last straw was when she doubled over at the sink while brushing her teeth, screaming OW!OW!OW!OW! in tears, holding her right side. Thought for sure the nipper had appendicitis, but 3 hours in the ER later, it was determined she had a strep infection (which was my second guess, since her generous cousin apparently had it the entire week we were visiting and it was determined only after we left that he had this special "gift" to give. Thanks, kiddo, but you obviously need to pay closer attention to our gift list next year!)

Anyhooo... got home at 1 am, then had to finish baking cookies for ds9's class at school. DH however had tried to help me by baking the rest of my batter ... and had, in his distraction of watching football, let 2 batches burn. Therefore, not enough cookies... and hence, had to make more batter, then cookies. Ugh. Crazy day back to work followed (after what was 4 hrs of sleep, but felt like 4 minutes!) ALso had to schlep lunch for a pack of kindergarteners, then visit both my boys at lunch at their schools, then check in on a slowly mending dd, then back to work, then home so dh could go coach ball... I felt like I was doing Flight of the Bumblebee all day. Whew. My wings are tired! :faint:

And bad news just seem to keep coming in. Of course, here in WV, all news stations are focused on those poor miners and their families - it really does NOT look good, does it. Also found out a college friend of mine (who sufffers from COPD) is now up for a double lung transplant (she is 40 years young and a mother of 2 - unfathomable). My forementioned fatigue seems so VERY selfish and paltry in comparison.

A few bright spots in my day - for example, realizing I'm only a week away from making my ressies at OKW for our August vacation! SHould be a nice time, with about 4 days at US/IOA and then 8 days over at OKW, mingled with a few days in S.C. (on the Southern US leg of our continued tour for peace... it's a good thing we actually LIKE these people, LOL....) ANother bright spot: a female colleague caled today to remind me to sign up for our business conference in March... in Orlando. Gee, twist my arm! I probably won't get much Disney-time in, but I am hoping to do at least ONE fun-day while I'm down there, or at the very least, go to DTD or something at night for fun. Hey, compared to my work-week and the madness around here, just a few nights of sitting in the hotel room with take-out and a cold beverage and a remote control will seem like heaven, LOL! I'm actually quite an easy-pleasin' little varmint, once ya get to know me...

Cheers, all, and hope your holidays were memorable and your New Year bright, prosperous, and healthy! :goodvibes

Hey Mar! It's great to see you back doing nothing!

Carrie, this is so a page and a half ago, but I want to hear about the marathon! Quit being selfless, I'm never going to do anything like that, so it's nice to live vicariously through you. And it gives me something to root for, other than OSU, who apparently didn't need my help anyway (had to get that in there somewhere).

Speaking of which, does anyone realize how long it's been since you've all gone off on sports and left me out of it entirely? I'm not suggesting you start again, but I'm so proud of all of you!

So, on the random-weird-things-to-do-with-your-time front, yesterday I had 250 pictures taken of me. All in the same outfit. In front of the same wall. In mostly the same position. It was frankly dreadful. I have no idea how models do that without feeling incredibly stupid. Fortunately, I have actually had to do that before, so I knew beforehand that I would feel incredibly stupid. Don't even get me started on how many flaws you can find in yourself when you try to actually pick a picture out of 250 of yourself. Yuck. The up-side of it, though, is that I think we have the album cover, and my photographer got some really cool shots for random art on the back cover and the CD so that's fun. Everything's now at the graphic designer's and I'm filling out all the fun, "No really! I'm not pirating anything, mr. federal government!" forms, and then we go to production. And do you know what that means?

After this week, I'm done! Yippee! So Carrie and I can both have sort of big moments at the same time. Of a slightly different nature of course.

Wow, go home from a night and look what happens. ROzzie passes by WDW w/o stopping. FYI - My parents did teh same last year, but did feel the need to call and tell me they were passing by teh exits just to rub it in.

Gopherit comes out of her hole and comes up with teh funniest pic I've seen in quite some time. BTW - Dh almost picked up a little ceramic gopher for you over the holidays, but I convincedhim it could look scrily similar to stalking. BTW, should I be insulted when people call me good-fer-nothing? Been thinking that was a rpretty cool compliment, but how did they know about the closet? ;)

jnrrt and Lisa - I'm already planning my trip reports. I figure I'll need 2. One for a regular TR and one for just teh marathon.

jnrrt - That is so cool, although I think 250 pics would kill me. Can't wait 'til it come out!!! Quote of teh week "This is so a page and a half ago" lol!

So tonight is charge the batteries night. Take my 3rd to last training run. Charge Garmin overnight. Get camera battery charged for camera one and spare rechargables charged for camera 2 (New little camera for marathon and old camer if I run out of space on my 256 MP card).

No, you didn't miss anything. I don't think I ever specified because I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested, and I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to sell them something.

It's all comtemporary Christian stuff, pretty main-stream pop/rock/alternative sounding. It's a total departure for me, as all of my other recordings have been classical, but I've been writing this stuff for a while now, and I think it came out pretty well, even though I had to learn to sing in a totally different way. I'm having a very good response to the advances, so that's promising.

I'd be very happy to sell it to my fellow nothingers - heck, we'll have some kind of nothing special! But I really, really don't want anyone to feel compelled to buy it just because you chat with me, especially if it's not your cup of tea. If you'd like it, I expect to have it for release by the end of the month, possibly a bit sooner as long as all of the forms are in order, etc.

And on another note, Laura, your story about PJ made me laugh because today my friend brought her 1 year old Hannah over, and Hannah has a big brother and just found out that she's having a little brother too in a few months. She was lying on the floor, holding and alternatively chewing on Ariel and Belle who belong to my dd, and I was laughing about how we'd have to instruct her in the ways of the Disney princesses, as she's not likely to get it at home. Apparently when at home, she mostly chews on storm troopers.

We used to keep our tree up, and the decorations, through Epiphany (the traditional 12 days of Christmas I think!), but we got our tree Thanksgiving weekend and it was a housefire waiting to happen!!! It was so dry - I swear there was more tree on the floor than on the branches after we took the lights off!
We never even got lights on the house this year - with DH in AL until the 2nd week of Dec( and me so sick he was busy with everything else) - he just didn't think it was worth the effort. Next year we're going all out!

Just between all of us nothings, one of several reasons we don't have children yet is we are afraid they will be disney haters, and allergic to dogs. We really would be up a creek without a paddle on that one!!

I don't know what the new year holds. I didn't have my black eyes and peas, and it is showing.

Sounds like something I would like:goodvibes :rockband: Please keep my name as one nothinger waiting on the CD. Let me know how to buy, either directly or tell me where to find it:beaniepro

Ewww.... The knot in my tummy is not liking the Funyons, but for old time's sake! Yup today will be my last check in day, as tomorrow will be at HQ. :(

One more sleep 'til WDW!

Oh, mom just called. Wanted to verify what airline I was taking (she's in Orlando now). Took several tries before she understood it. "OK, so it's not Independence."

"No."

"That's good because they're going out of bisiness today."

Yup, good thing. ALthough, now I'm worried that my small airline will go tomorrow. :( Thanks for putting that thought in my head!!!!

Thansk for the good wishes TW!

Top of the Mornin' to all!

(Although, since it's 9:48 am, is that Middle of the mornin', actually?)

ANyhooo, about that Poly / CR news... at last, now I can commence with my diabolical plot! WHile you folks go swoon and froth over POLY and CR points, and sell off your worldy possessions to get your hands on them (and hopefully... just maybe.... a few OKW or HHI points?) If the price is right, I can convince DH and finally get a good deal on some extra points for the gopher gang! Bwaahaaahhaaa.... CUe the Ursula music...."things are working out to my ultimate design....."

Hey, if nothing else, I figure incentives on SSR are going to really get good. I would take some there. I'm basically looking for an accent piece to our BWV points... somewhere different (like HHI, which our fam loved) or with cheaper GVs (like OKW, or possibly SSR).

I'm like the DVC marine corp... looking for a few good points, LOL.

Maybe it's the Tim Horton's High Test java that's talkin, but have you ever had one of those mornings where everything is just clickin'? It's a rare thing for me... mostly I feel like I have ten plates in the air and drop a few daily... :help: but today for some reason I feel like that bring-home-the-bacon woman, LOL. :kickingco

Yesterday I took the kids to school, worked until 6, raced home. Made dinner to the rave reviews of the fam :chef: (fried rice, beef/broccoli), raced into town to get a new calendar and craft stuff for dd's Daisy troop. Came home, put all kids in the bed with kisses & hugs, then filled out the calendar for 2006 with all the school dates, sports stuff, etc, and prepped 13 Daisy craft "kits" for today's meeting. Tended a sick cat inbetween watching Texas beat USC, went to bed at 2. Got up at 6:30, kids to school by 8, sample of kitty tinkle to vet by 8:30, then swing by Tim Horton's and into work by 9! And I'm somehow - inexplicably - ahead of the game here, waiting on some materials to arrive, thus granting me enough time to type this! :computerg

Life is goooood! (And so is this coffee!)

Or as Bruce Almighty sez, "It's guuuuuuud."

You gotta savor moments like these (so that you can make it through the other 364.25 days of the year, I guess, harharhar....)

On another topic - Hey jnrrt, count me in among those who would love to buy your CD! :tunes: And Carrie, put your fears to rest and run your best! :cheerlead (Oooo, I'm a poet... and didn't know it.)

Man is this coffee good or WHAT?!?? :hyper:

Adding the gopher. Check.

I'm glad everything's clicking for you! I'm personally feeling way behind the eight ball, which is why I'm procrastinating here. I really should go check some things off. I'd feel so much better. (Can you hear me talking myself into it?)

I stayed up the night before last until 3 in the morning because I was so far behind in everything, and darn it, everyone was asleep, and I got so much done! It was great! But then I was so darn tired yesterday (and yes, I knew that would happen but thought it was worth it!). It would have been fine, but my dd got sick in the night, which woke the baby, and I ended up awake most of the night with the dd, and then with a very cranky, stuck to my hip all morning baby. So now I'm really, really tired! And I haven't gotten anything done this morning because of said stuck baby. Of course, now he's napping, so I should work! My poor ignored second child...

Okay, that's it. I'm working. See you all in a bit. Mostly because I know I am weak, and will come back for a break. But also because I like it here. So there.

OK, so, all you runners, tell me something.

I've never spent two minutes thinking about a marathon before, but Carrie's quest to run through every park before breakfast has me all keyed up here.

OK, so you run for like, 2 or 3 hours, non-stop, right?

Explain me somthing...what is going through your mnid in all this time? Can you day dream, can you process real thoughts, are you semi-comatose?

You see, I'm not much af an exercise regime guy. Sure, I'll play a game of ball, hike, climb, swim, and stuff. But after about 10 minutes of doing something like running, I'm bored to tears.

I'm honestly in awe of you all who can run non-stop for hours on end

How do you condition your brain for something like this?

But for now this will have to do...:coolcar: Imagine Carrie in there, waving to the crowd, (proper princess wave of course) for her "you did it!" parade of congratulations when she gets back to the nothing thread.

Ya'll come and get me when it starts, I'll be in the corner here going through all my worldly possessions to sell for the rumored PRV. Hey Gopher, pass some of that go juice. I was supposed to have the house cleaned out and organized by this date. Heck, the laundry isn't even folded...:hammer:

Ummm.... If we do well, we'll finish in 5 hours Saturday. Mind you, we are running to finish, not for time.

John Bingham aka The Penguin has some great training books out. We used Marathoning for Mortals. Very good. Been training since last March, but real, hard core (for me), training started in August.

Many who go alone use mp3 players to help. I'm running with dh, so we talk some (that's how fast we run) and just check out the scenery I guess. I hear for teh WDW marathon, I will not need any stimuli. I cannot wait.

Here's where I'll be running:

http://adisneyworldsports.disney.go.com/media/dwws_v0220/en_US/pdf/06FullCourseMap.pdf

(It's big and a pdf, so it would take too much concentration that I don't have to work out posting it right here. ;) )

As for teh brain, we ran a 20-miler and it was surprisingly easy. That helps a lot. Evry distance jump we have made so far, the plan has worked. So, that helps. the mental really is the biggest part, though.

Thought I'd post here rather than starting a whine thread, but today has been a lot more than nothing for me.

First, I've spent 3 hours trying to dig my car out of the snow in my driveway.
Why, you might wonder...
Well, first let me shout a few blasphemous words of the week *^%&$(*((#&@&*)($()#&*#*(. Ok, that's better.

I bought a plow to plow the ole driveway since two years ago my X 'stole' the plow jeep and collected on the insurance (no, I can't 'prove' the fraud, but it sure seemed probable at the time). I couldn't afford $2000 a season for someone else to do it, so I found an OLLLLLLD 1985 Blazer with a plow attached. Problem is the thing is too darn big for the road. Anyway, there was lots of snow while I was in WDW and the caretakers didn't plow as they should have. So, Dec 16 was the day I picked to try to widen the snowpath. Too bad the plow wasn't happy with my decision and i heard a bad noise and saw a bad piece of metal.

The truck wouldn't go into four wheel drive, which made it completely nonfunctional on the road, so I pulled it over and called the original owner who, in the spirit of Xmas present said he'd help me out (he is a mechanic) if I could get it to him in Breck...about 15 miles away. I was concerned re safety of driving in 2WD but also didn't want to do any more damage if that was an issue
SO
I called the local truck repair shop that I THOUGHT had taken care of my jeep for the last 20 years and asked if they could take a quick peek to see if it was safe to drive. SURE, bring it by! So I did, but I was told that they couldn't look right then, to leave it for an hour. I reiterated that I needed to drive or tow it to Breck that same day...and gave them my cell phone number. No call so I drove back to the shop only to find them closed for the weekend. No key in my truck and duh me had not yet made extras.

Monday I called and was told : sorry, the mechanic couldn't figure out how to lift the plow (hmmmm....a lever that moves 4 ways, not too complicated). For the record, the truck sits way high off the ground and the broken piece was really obvious by just a quick bend over look underneath.....I had even taken a photo and emailed it to the original owner who said it would cost about $250. I said I was coming by to get the truck and WAS IT SAFE TO DRIVE OR SHOULD I TOW IT and they said they'd call me right back. Two hours later: it will cosst
$1000 for us to repair it. Well, thanks, but no thanks...IS IT SAFE? Another call back. I told them I was coming to get it then, and I heard some whispering and then the manager came online and said that I owed them $45.00.

I asked if I had signed anything re a charge or had been told at any time that there would be a charge for what I felt was less than a 5 minute 'job' of just looking beneath the truck at an obvious broken 'thingy'. NO but did you really think we would do it for free? Well, yess, as a matter of fact. Plus, you promised you'd look at it on Friday and you didn't and you didn't even call me so I could come get my keys and take it...as I told you I HAD to do.

Finally the manager said he couldn't waive the charge but I could talk tot he owner and I said fine. I went to the shop and the owner wasn't there and surprisingly didn't have a cell phone (hmmm) . So I gave the manager my cell phone and he promised that the owner would call that same day. No call.
And no call the next or the next or the next...and then it was Xmas.

The day after Xmas I went to the shop and said: look, you have no authorization from me to do any work on my car and you have admitted that you didnt' do any work on my car so I want my keys NOW. And the guy refused. So I asked him to sign a note saying that he refused and he refused. So I said I think we need to get a police report. The police came and suggested I put the charge on my credit card and then dispute it. HUH? doesn't that seem illegal to you? Then she said that I could just sue him for triple damages in small claims (did no one ever tell this cop taht she really isnt' supposed to be handing out 'legal' advice?????
Finally she said that the shop could put a mechanics lien on the car...I said no they can't ...authorized work must be done on the car to do that....and she said: are you ready: well, our town just passed a NEW mechanic's lien law that changed things from before. OH MY GOD...why do I keep running into sitch's like this. So I said that I was SURE that they had no right to a mechanics lien and NO I wasn't going to put it on a credit card but would she just write a report....NOPE, this is a CIVIL matter.

So that was over a week ago. I filed a complaint with the bbb and called my local TV station troubleshooter. I called the DA's office and yesterday I was overcome with a desire to do something BAD...but then I didn't act on it....yet:goodvibes
I did some research and the owner doesn't even live here and he is reputed to be an ass with a lot of suits filed against him from the Virgin Islands where he had a contracting biz.

SO.....at $75 a pop I've had my drive plowed 3 times but last night's snow was just too much for my sedan. And the point of my whine????
Well, anybody have any ideas as to what to do next, please PM me (especially if it is a BAD suggestion!!!!)

Thanks for listening....and small claims might not work, esp as they aren't hearing the newly filed cases til early March.

AFMom

Oh my gosh!!!!! I'm so sorry, CB! I have no idea what you should do!
I'm all for hiring thugs and beating them.:beaniepro But I know that really isn't helpful at all..... I can't believe the cops would even write up a report for you. I would possibly write all of this up and send a copy of the letter by certified mail to the business address and to anyone else you can think of just to get some sort of documentation.... I can't believe how bad they are! How can these places stay in business????
Try not to stress to much. You may end up having to do the CC thing and then have the CC company disnpute it. Our CC is always great about it - especially if you've already got the letters sent out to the business.... hmmmm... I wouldn't go the small claims court, though - doesn't that cost more than it's worth? Ug.....:hammer:

I would make a big sign saying "these people did no work and wont return my car" and stand just outside of their property line as often as time would permit. Write up your story in simple terms, print out several copies and if anyone stops to ask, give them one. If you could get your hands on a bullhorn that would be even better because believe it or not, its not illegal if you aren't on their property.

I am the dog that won't let go of the bone. I would NEVER pay that money and I would sue them for damages. If you pay it on your credit card, your credit card company will call the car dealership and ask if the charge is legit to which they will say "yes" and you will pretty much be stuck.

What a terrible thing you have been going through :( I wish there was something I could say that would really help here. I would call the police department again and see if some other officer might have a different take on things. Are there any signs posted saying there is a fee for looking at your car? ARound here, they have diagnostic fees posted to keep this from being an issue. Even if they have a policy about this, the fact that they have consistently caused you problems IS reason enough to stick with it.

*big hugs for CB* I have a big stick...want me to come up and pay them a visit?

and Carrie - YOU ROCK!!! :hyper: I hope you and hubby have a wonderful run! Good luck and have a blast!!! :rockband:

First off, how awful, CB. I too would hold my ground and not pay!

AS for things here in Gopherville... my glorious butt-bootin, name-takin got-the-world-by-the-tail day came to a screechin' halt at exactly 11:15 am. Somehow I knew it would be short lived... glad I savored it whilst I could. :(

Yes, not too long after I posted, a well-intentioned (though poorly spoken)optometrist slapped a pair of coppery rims on me. I've never worn glasses before - always had outstanding vision, much better than 20/20, but that third kid 5 yrs ago did a real optical number on this here Gopher. That, and age, all take their toll, I guess.

Anyway - they decided before xmas that I needed slight long distance correction, correction for an astigmatism (pardon if I've mispelled), and a good deal of help up close and personal. But getting used to these little suckers is officially killing me. Doogie Houser eye doc told me I would probably hate him for about three weeks. I am thinking now he has greatly underestimated the tenacity of my emotions. How about it, oh gifted Horse of vision... will my faith in The Doogster be miraculously redeemed around Week 3, or should I make plans to be torturing his effigy well into June?

Took DS 10 to a boy scout mtg tonight (he's visiting troops and trying to decide if he wants to move up to boy scouting or just finish his Cub career and slip off quietly into the night...) I almost stopped off at Tim Horton's on the way home, wondering if it might help me get my spark back.... oh well. It was fun while it lasted!

Oh my ...I am trying to imagine our dear little gopher with big goofy round glasses.
NONONONONONO....
But sweetie, I'm sure that contacts will be jsut around the corner...and hey, even I in my dotage am thinking that a little laser in ONE eye might do wonders.

I am 20/40 in one and a little better in the other but it is my night vision where I feel really scary if I drive without correction. In bright sun I can only wear one correction and see both distant and close, but if the light is dim then I have to elongate my arms or HORRORS wear reading glasses!!!!

It aint fun getting old and decrepit, Gopherit, but then the alternative isn't so hot either!!!!! Maybe we can get a deal on the laser if we all go in together?

Thanks everyone for being so supportive of my tenacious inability to fork over the cash to get my dam car! I did something after I posted: I called a friend on the Town Board and told her what up....everyone hates this guy and my friend was shocked at what the cop said re mechanic's lien. she is calling the chief of police and told me that I deserved to be bad sometime.....she was thinking of breaking glass and stuff but I am thinking I could be much more sneaky than that. Knowing that everyone thinks this guy is a jerk helps. Tomorrow: the newspaper.
I am also a member of Women of the Summit and I think I could get a whole group of us to go over and give them a hard time. But it would be more fun if a bunch of horses, gophers, wizzards, AF jocks, fairy godmother's and ....well, fun if a bunch of Disney freaks showed up on their doorstep! Skiing anyone??????

So....you all made me smile.

Anyone else go to bed last night thinking the W.Va miners were safe? It was a sad shock today to find out that they perished. My grandpa was a coalminer in England...not an easy way to live for sure. Prayers to all their family.

Finally, I was watching the new Dance With the Stars and recognized one of the Latin dancers, Ashley DelGrosso...as the daughter of my daughter's (and my) first dance teacher here in our little town!!!! I knew Ash when she was just a baby!! And now she is a Star!! How cool is THAT?

Ok...gotta go do some work.

BTW, CB, we're sticking with our plans to visit your lovely state this summer. A few days in the southwest corner - Mesa Verde area, then a few more in Estes Park then Boulder with my sister. Kids are getting psyched even though it means skipping our happy place - HHI. Maybe we can swing by your mechanics place and give him something to think about.

Hey, Gopher, nice glasses. I'm in a similar boat - perfect vision my whole life til recently. Got a 'script but haven't filled it just yet, was looking for that perfect pair, but voila! you found what I've been looking for - Rainbow frames!

Crossin' fingers in Philly - 50 degree weather in January can only mean that February's gonna be downright nasty!

I think we are almost all moving into the glasses rhelm (if we weren't there previously). I wear them for a very slight correction when driving, watching movies and now (sadly) at work because I have gotten a flat screen 17 inch monitor that I had to move back a bit and its just far enough away from me that it starts to get a little bit blurry - - - and by 3:30 or so - BLAMO - huge headaches if I am not wearing my specs. (and just where is our horse of a different color when we are discussing his trade....still :ROTFL: when I think of those big hooves flipping the little test thingiemabob back and forth "better now...or now"...) I know I get the headaches because I make my eyes focus because I can "test" 20/20 without really straining, but it catches up with me after a day of it. Good thing my guy thinks women in glasses are sexy :lovestruc

CB - you go girl! TW1 raises a good point about possible damage from this guy. I guess I play by a different rule book and would never think to do damage to someone's vehicle, etc (even if I wanted to choke the living poo out of them) but if he is that bad, he really might do something out of spite. Tough call.

TGIF!!!

TORSO!!!

Its a hot pink kinda day! (got all the way to the daycare after dropping off the boys at school - which is about 20 minutes from home and guess what? No bottles for P.J. ARGH!!! I think I am just going to hide out in the closet in the hot tub and blow off today! Any one want to join me?)

Hey, Gopherit, no worries. With a bod like that, no one's looking at your glasses.

That's what I'm afraid of.

Winter hibernation does bad, bad things to gopher rumps. :holymoly:

I'm joining llovell in her MC Hammer skinny-dance from the whining/DIning threads... hey, maybe if I don some Hammer pants, no one notice will notice these roly-poly rodent buns.

Probably because they will be too busy laughing at me.

(Anybody recall the "In Living Color" spoof on that video, though? That would be me, tripping around and falling over, all tangled up in my genie drawers...) :hammer:

bwhahaha!!! I would bust my booty in a heart beat if I really wore those pants! I do wear what I call jeanie pants a lot - soft, silk blends - feel so good and are loose enough to be somewhat slimming and yet dressy. A wonderful combo to me. I also can wear heels again (since I am not off balance with a watermelon belly anymore) and everyone thinks I have lost more weight :Pokepoke: Thank goodness for boots with thick heels or I would be teetering all over town.

All this whining about glasses. Come on, everyone! Be glad you could see until now. I have been so near-sighted, legally bind without correction, for so long, that I can't imagine being able to tell a facial expression on my kids at night when they come in and are standing up while I'm lying down. And let's face it, they're short. It's pathetic. So all this 20/40 boo-hoo-hoo, I say, you have no idea how much I would kill for 20/40! Embrace your 20/40! Love it! You're still fabulous looking! Mine are closer to 20/400, and that's on the good side.

Of course, no one knows I wear anything since I'm addicted to contacts. I don't like my glasses because I don't have peripheral vision then, and I run into walls. Looks very intelligent. So contacts it is.

Wonder if I'll ever be brave enough for laser? Just the idea of WATCHING them do it willies me out every time, and I know I can't go through with it.

Contacts aren't bad, sure, I love them...

Trying to avoid the 3 pounds of Reese's PB Cups my assistant just dumped in the candy bowl out front and a phone that's been ringing non-stop since 8:30 a.m., and I mean non-stop as in a computer glitch, in a locked office right below mine.

Ugh! All that phone ringing is driving me out of my mind! I've been told they can't get in the office and may have to shut and re-boot the entire phone system. I say - Just do it already!

Makes you want to sing something annoying just to drown out the ringing. Any ideas?

I guess you aren't planning on any sleep for that visit "home," eh? I find sometimes a decent Disney break is good, as it makes the next visit GREAT! But, I tend not to sleep much as I get an adrenaline kick! :bouncingg

AFMom
01-09-2006, 08:59 PM
Yep - no problems! Well - we won't be sleeping much! But the shorter park hours might help..... I hope.....
Our usual commando style includes 16 hour park days (with children of all ages in tow), so we're used to it! We're doing AK one day, hitting MGM after AK closes to just see Osborne Lights and hit 1 or 2 other attractions until it closes - then going to MK and Epcot one day each, and MVMCP one evening. That actually leaves us the whole day until 4pm on the MVMCP day to rest up! - hopeully that'll be the day in the middle........ Ug..

Ah the spirit of adrenaline flows through my veins also as soon as I hit property. Poor DH, each trip, I tell him this is going to be trip where we relax and kick back. But soon as I'm on property, the adrenaline gets cranked...this past trip was the first time ever we had a whole day of relaxation. No parks. Which I found myself enjoying. Granted I had 4 Saratoga lagers in me by the pool. It was not hard to convince me to be a slug.

I'm in a pickle tonight, getting excited about my upcoming trip! So a question for all the "nothings"......

Rozzie,

If you are looking for me Saturday afternoon (2/4), I'll be tooling around WS, picking up our "snacks" for the room. Most of our shopping is done in Japan -- need wasabi peas, good sake, etc. Oh, I know, I could go to our Asian market at home and pack the stuff in our suitcases (and with my husband and daughter being Chinese, trust me, I'm there all the time). But somehow, going and poking around in the stores in WS for our snacks helps get me into the World but not into the R-U-S-H that I used to do....also, I love the Cheese Plate in England, and um, , so I generally get a quick "pick me up" there so as to continue my snack hunting for the villa!

To give you some perspective, 4 years ago, it took two trips and a total of 8 hours to get a license in NJ when moving from NY, ya know, the next state over? :sosad: If you think I'm being harsh, when I moved from PA to NY, it only took about 30 min. in NYC to change both my car registration and license...

Needless to say, I'm :dancingba

If not a FOTL pass... then at least they could let us in the parks an hour earlier to calm our nerves and work out some of our pent-up obsession, eh? I could do with a funnel cake right now, come to think of it. What is the name of those drinks in Italy - granita? The lemon is the BEST. My kids all clamour for those 2 snacks! We liked the standard issue cinnamon sugar beaver tails in Canada too - but I understand those are gone now? Gonna be hard to break the news to my kids on THAT.... :crymeariv :crymeariv :crymeariv

Speaking of which...My dd5 is cracking me up - she's apparently been telling everyone at school that her Mom has been "studying real hard so the whole family can go to a University this summer..." She had her teachers pretty impressed with my dedication to education... until I burst the illusion and told them it's Uni-VERSAL (Studios) that we're going to, not Uni-VERSITY. I really do have to spend more time exploring the countries. Was going to do that on my last trip and it rained on our EPCOT day. weeeeeee Then it also rained the whole next day and we didn't do a park all day, but availed ourselves to the free movies and other entertainment offered to DVC members :)

I KNEW there was something wrong with me - OCDPD!!! I am about to kick into full blown planning mode for our trip in April and honestly its causing me anxiety this time because I don't feel like I have enough time to really plan. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I have already started planning the meals and daily whereabouts for our August trip. Just today I think I spent a good 15 minutes pondering whether it was better to do a water park on Monday, then hit EPCOT on Tuesday, or vice-versa.

We go through the same thing. The way we usually make our decision is based on park hours and what type of tickets we are currently using. So, if EMH hours are in a park we want to see, then that day might mean a water park till afternoon and then a late night in a park.

Our other cosideration involves the tickets we bought. I thought I recall you saying you have APs, so for you its different. But we don't get APs (unfortunately we only go every 18 months or so, using our points for HHI first.) So, if we have park hoppers we'll do a water park option and NOT go to a theme park, thus extending the number of days of fun per ticket.

And then comes the weather which screws up all our planning! Or like last summer, there was that special Tuesday Night Members' Block Party on PI, which at first we were gonna skip but so many folks said it was such a blast (which it was and we got these great light-up Members pins as well!)

Ahh, the planning. Makes the trip last that much longer doesn't it!

When is the first official meeting of OCDPD? I've been sitting all morning mapping out what I am going to drink and eat first. Fish N'Chips with a cold guiness....is life any better??? Ah, it is the Germany that usually does us in. The bratwurst and beer. France? Well chocolate moose and champagne. Mexico? The margartia line always finds us. At F&W, the beers of the world booth? Well we were were on a first name basis with the checkout boy. I don't know if anyone else did this, but we did the Samuel Adams tasting event at this past years F&W--and the best part, it was free!! I didn't even know Free and Disney could be used in the same sentence.

APs? Not this gopher. We bought oodles of PHP passes over the past decade and are still working off of those. In all fairness, it's probably a good thing. The PHP pass FORCES me to leave a park... which in turn gives me that much MORE time to plan my return, bwaahahahaha! TL or BB? MGM or EPCOT? ESPN or B&C? DDP or DDE? SOmebody stop me!

And yes, I hear you about the weather making last minute "adjustments" to your months of planning. Back in 2004, I had planned for a big day at EPCOT on Friday, complete with a Magical Gatherings dinner for 12 with Illuminations viewing that night, followed by a Sat. at TL.

Hurricane Charley thought otherwise. :(

We ended up with 5 going to EPCOT for half a day Friday, 3 hitting I-95 back home, and 4 sleeping in and getting b'fast on the Boardwalk, followed by a hastily thrown together pancake dinner for 9 in the BWV room while the storm howled around us! No Illuminations dinner for us. :( We ended up doing EPCOT on Saturday as TL was closed the rest of our stay due to damages. Sometimes you just have to flow with the changes (and some prayer and PD don't hurt....) When you travel during hurricane season, it helps to have a "back-up" plan, I guess. I try to put a water park day now at the beginning of our stay, simply because (a) they are less crowded at the beginning of the week, and (b) if anything weather-wise should hamper going to the water park then, odds are good that we can fit it in by week's end. We usually stay for over a week at a time, so the odds are pretty good that we will have at least a day or two of decent weather SOMEWHERE in the trip, LOL! Water parks are one of the reasons we go to WDW during the summer... we went in January one year and it was great, but then another year it was cold cold cold and the only swimming my boys did was in the jacuzzi tub in the villa, LOL! At least in the summer you know it will be HOT enough to swim - as long as the lightening and storms stay away, you're good to go. :kickingco

ANd yes, the planning is actually a very real, very fun part of the trip for me. I have tried to explain this to DH, that my trip begins well before anyone else in the family! By the time the trip comes, I'm probably exhausted and just don't know it, because that OCDPD adrenaline kicks in and WAHOOOOOO! :clappingh :bouncingg :woohoo: :bouncingg :clappingh

OMG!

DW works as an independent contractor for Siemens who, as we just read in our Vacation Magic email update, have recently signed on as sponsors of Illuminations, Spaceship Earth, etc., and their Sylvania Division is underwriting the Osbourne Lights.

Well, she just received an email that she can buy discounted park tix! They are offering the 14-day expiring tickets for 1-7 days with and w/o park hopping and water park options, etc.

Anyway, her price for an adult 5-day with with water park and park hoppers is just $255 instead of $291!
:kickingco :kickingco :kickingco

Next trip we can save $135 bucks on our four tickets!

OK, I'm in a total state of shock right now. Husband and I went to renew our driver's licenses this morning. Two of us, renewed (with new pictures and all that) in 10 minutes. THIS IS IN NEW JERSEY. (sorry for yelling)

Nono, I had post-traumatic stress from trying to get a license when we moved to NY. Three trips. Lots of fun let's-wait-in-this-line-for-three-hours-for-them-to-tell-us-it's-the-wrong-line-and-no-you-couldn't-have-known-and-no-you-can't-go-to-the-front-of-the-right-line.

it took about an hour when we moved here, and I was a dancing banana too. Kind of.

I'm about to go through this, and I have been in denial for so long. You see, in order to get a Alabama driver's license, you must first prove you are a human. How do you prove that? By orginal birth certificates. DH's birth certificate? God love em', he doesn't even know his cell phone #, much less the exact location of his birth certificate. Mine? Er.....uh......haven't seen it since we moved.

I know, slap me on the wrist, but it is what happens when someone moves you. You see, DH's company moved us, and we had people come into our home and pack everything. Problem was, DH told me the wrong date they were coming. A procrastinator's dream? More like a nightmare. They didn't label anything, and would empty drawers and dump them into boxes. Even packed up dirty dishes. I was just running room to room trying to salvage my fine collectibles.

So no, the birth certificate is long gone. So you can order new ones right???? Or do you get one and if you lose it, the Birth Certificate police come and lead you away?? :tsktsk:

So TW1, now that you are on the "inside", do we get private seating area's for the nothing group for Illuminations??? ;)

Rozzie,

OK, as one who's completed one adoption and in the middle of another, government paperwork is my specialty! (I'll bore you all with that some other time).

Yes, you can order a new one from the state in which one was born. And, in most states' DMVs, they won't accept the ones from the hospital, it has to be the registered birth. Which govt. agency varies by state. It could be the dept. of health, the dept. of vital records, etc. Sometimes, counties can also issue them in addition to the state.

Good luck, and check my counter -- it's your countdown too!!!!

:hammer: its my poor way of saying these are the tickets that expire once you start using them, versus those that never expire.

JohnNJ: not sure if there is a limit on the number we can buy, but I'm sure they have figured on folks buying dozens and re-selling them. I do know there is a $10 s&h fee per order, though. Since DW is a contractor and never sure just when perks like this can end, our feeling is we'd buy several and keep them for future trips.

Roz: LOL, yeah wouldn't private seating areas be a nice perk. Why am I thinking that will NEVER happen

In Georgia, you can order them online so try there first for your birthstate. They are like $8 a pop, but I have ordered the kids online everytime (the official ones - with the lil seal on them) and its a breeze.

I look into those types of tickets from time to time but having an AP in my pocket gives me the ability to go whenever I choose and even if we don't travel, I like having the option :) It feeds my OCDPD!!! :jumpingbe (gopherit - you rock! I love the sayings you come up with :lovestruc )

TW1 - I would calculate and see how much it would be to turn your days into "non-expiring" when you are at WDW as well. Might work out to be an amazing bargain and then you could get all 14 days used over time. (didn't crunch the numbers...just speculating)

Dear, dear, my dear lllovell:

How do you get to go to Disney without travel?????

Are you still 'living' in Cindy's Castle?

We need your Disney-analist Stat, you have moved from Disney-neurosis to Disney-anoia!

We are *ALL* here to help you!

-Tony

This is printed in pink ink so that llovell can't read this, another well known side effect of Disney-annoyia. We have to do something, lllovell's OCDPD is clearly worsening, it is out of control, I think it is time for an encounter. Who's with me?

Disney-annoy-ya.... I think that's what I was suffering from at the ice show the other night  (Hey Lady -- wanna buy a grossly-overpriced twinkle wand for your little girl? How about a $8 bag of cotton candy? SNow White Weapon-on-a-stick? Get yer picture taken with this gen-you-whine, 100% real, authentically duplicated, actual imitation fiberglass-and-acrylic realistically embossed Cinderella! Step right up, folks! Cash on the left, plastic on the right, 3 pints of blood and/or first born, right down the center! STEP RIGHT UP!)

oh my goodness!!!

the Pink ink is all out....what happened here? I was going to write a letter to Cindy because she keeps leaving her things in my way at night before running off with that Prince schmo and there is no PINK INK!

The story of my life I tell you. Always the houseguest - never the princess. Do you know you can't leave a crumb around here or else she starts whistling, singing and cleaning....it can drive a sane person mad I tell you MAD!!!

Also, have you noticed those diamond encrusted bolts she has on the ends of her hairband? I think they go straight into her brain. I caught Jasmine the other day with a remote control - visciously clicking away at it and next thing you know, off runs Cindy (glass slipper left behind on the steps AGAIN - can't she get shoes that fit?) to clean up after Aladin. Doesn't she know that Cindy has to keep MY house clean...errr I mean her castle clean? Do you have any idea how much dirt those fireworks shake loose each night? Do you understand that having 3 children running in and out of secret doorways and into secret rooms (that Walt built of course) can leave a trail of dirt and cobwebs throughout the throne room? How can I possibly keep this place clean if the other Princesses are messing with my girl?!?!?!

*whew* Sorry...forgot to take my little pill this morning..... :chillpill :scary:

It is obviously spreading faster than avian flu.

We need to stop this epidemic!

"Nurse Minnie this woman needs a large bore Yeunling IV STAT, run it wide open....."

"Code Pink in ICU....Code Pink in ICU......."

"Dr. Mickey, here is her annual pass!"

"Dammit Nurse when will they learn, for a few sheckels more, it could have been a PAP!"

"Doctor, we're loosing her.......it's not working!"

"Nurse, damn the protocols give me a DDE card and The Disney Dining Plan....

AT THE SAME TIME"

"Doctor are you sure?"

"Darn it nurse! Where is that DDE card....Okay, a little more pressure, good it is a fit."

"Oh Doctor!"

"Thank you all, the team did great work here today! Have resident Goofy finish up here and transfer the patient to the CCU. I already checked she has enough DVC points in the current UY to cover her stay!"

.........

We now return you to the 'real' world.

Excuse the topic change, and from the departure of nothingness.

My local PBS has been airing a Frontline special called Country Boys. I've been hooked on the first two installments and can't wait for tonights third and final show.

Anybody else watching this?

hahaha Tony - when I was reading your doctor's comment above, I was thinking of "Bones" from Star Trek.

I haven't seen it TW1. What is it about exactly? (and if you say "country boys" I am gonna whup you! :Pokepoke: )

TW1

Well the easy answer would be to tell you to visit their website http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/

Now just put down that stick for a minute...

It is a mulit- year documentary that has followed two adolescent boys growing up in eastern Kentucky. They are from very-low income families and battle all the issues of growing up without strong role models, without great job prospects, living off of federal and state assistance programs, etc. Both boys are also enrolled in a non-traditional high school that works with at-risk kids, high school drop outs and those with minor developmental disabilities.

Anyway DW and I have been absolutely fascinated watching these two boys grow up. It starts when they are about 15 or 16 and ends with them turning 18. As if growing up isn't hard enough, these kids are battling a whole heap of misery that comes with poverty and disfunctional families, alcoholism, domestic violence, etc.

Anyway, if it comes on in your area, I'd suggest it.
